    Good job. I haven't done visual astronomy since I was maybe your age or younger. I just bought a Dobsonian. After photographing the moon countless times, Seeing the moon for real took my breath away! Been looking at Saturn past few nights. Since this has SynScan. I'm going to try some "lucky imaging". You can't replace the reality of those photons hitting your eyes. I'm in bortle 9 Milwaukee, so close by.

    If you ever decide to dive more into more planetary, i highly recommend an inaging flip mirror. It will allow you to connect your camera and eyepiece at the same time! It makes centering the planets on the imaging censor much easoer, especially at higher magnifications and if you ever get a planetary camera, a smaller sensor.

    I‘m thinking of getting the 533 as well for planetary mainly and DSO occasionally. How much resolution/fps did you use?

    • @oryanastro
      @oryanastro Місяць тому

      With fire capture you can crop in on your target, so the resolution varied. Typically it was no more than 600x600. I’d recommend a planetary camera from zwo if you’re gonna be doing that mainly, such as their 462, but it all depends on how much deep sky you’ll be doing as well. The 533 is good ay both, but you’ll get much better results with a camera dedicated for planets. Planetary cameras are typically cheaper too.

    • @slickzMdzn
      @slickzMdzn Місяць тому

      @@oryanastro Yeah I agree with you on the ded. planetary cam but I'm afraid of having to buy the 533 (or the 585) afterwards anyway so I'm thinking about going there directly and use ROI for planets

    • @oryanastro
      @oryanastro Місяць тому

      In that case I think either of those would be great. The 533 has given me no issues and it’s got a great frame rate when you have the computer to back it up :)

    Great video man, you should try to get an 8 inch or higher Newtonian cause with that aperture you will have more resolution on deep sky and planetary at a cheap price compare to a refractor unless you can afford an expensive refractor

      Ok i guess your answer didn’t register because you wanted a heavier more steady mount. I’m always looking to reduce weight because I’m getting older. It helps that the AM5 head is so light compared to the EQ6r and you don’t need counter weights.

    Given your limited view from your back yard do most of the nebulas you would like to target appear in that small section of sky? A strain wave mount at the same price point would allow you to image away from your back yard vs the heavy EQ6. Was that option considered?

    Congrats!! I have that mount. It is a beast and the body of it appears to be made out of adamantium. Mine took a pretty nasty tumble off the deck and into the pavement two years ago - not even a dent. Still works flawlessly. When I first got the mount, it was way too stiff in both the RA and the DEC axis - to the point where it hardly moved almost no matter how I placed the counterweights -but I found a great video from "Astro Adventures" on YT on how to easily loosen them up. (From the video, yours appear to look a little looser than mine was?) I was VERY happy with my purchase and the mount is now on a permanent pier in a mini-observatory I built last year, controlled by NINA. Haven't polar aligned or calibrated PHD2 since September, and I still only get guiding errors in the 0.5 - 0.6 range I honestly think you will very happy with yours too. It is going to serve you well for a long, long time.

    • @oryanastro
      @oryanastro Місяць тому

      Whatever it’s made out of, it’s an absolute tank! Yeesh, yeah my EQM took a tumble too, right onto ice a few years ago, but it came out.. alive ish. ;) The RA and DEC seem fine to me, but I will absolutely check out Astro adventures’ video if I have any issues. Thanks! I’m jealous of your pier!! For now, I’m stuck lugging it in and out until my back gives out.

    Just a minor point. In general it is better to install the counterweight before installing the scope. If you don't have the head locked your scope could swivel and slam into the tripod. Great video. I remember when I was strong enough to carry an EQ6 mount head without needing an hour rest. Good luck with your new setup. You have picked a really good mount. (I thought I had some big trees to shoot around)

    • @oryanastro
      @oryanastro Місяць тому

      I typically always do the counterweight first, in this case I just took it off after it was fully assembled to film that segment talking about the retractable shaft. I appreciate the tip! Yeah the mount head is beefy, but I’m taking that as a sign that it’ll last me a good long while. And as for the trees, you learn to live with it… for the most part. :)

    Hello👋🏻 im getting my first mount..but im torn between the eqm 35pro and the star advanturer gti. Based of your experience , do you recommend skipping the eqm35 ? I still havent decided cause of the payload advantage of the eqm over the gti.. but problems come with it.

    • @oryanastro
      @oryanastro Місяць тому

      Although the EQM is special to me, it had too many issues and frustrating problems for me to recommend to other people. I’ve heard fantastic things about the GTI. If you have smaller setup (60mm-ish telescope) and don’t plan on upgrading, I’d go for the GTI. But if you know you’re gonna want to upgrade to a bigger scope in the near future, I’d say skip the EQM altogether and save a little, get yourself a different mount like an iOptron GEM28. My buddy @astrotan has a ton of experience with it and can tell you great things.

      @oryanastro Does the quality (details) of the image I obtained of the Cresent as good as what you were able to get? No. For me, the final product is just one piece of the total experience. I also do the planning and research as you discussed and attempt to achieve the best possible final image. The S50 with tripod is under 10 lbs. For me, I can't handle much more than that. Bottom line, I've captured about 100 images since Jan and am enjoying the whole experience including multiple all-nighters. Hobbies are supposed to inspire and be enjoyed. The S50 does that for me. Clear sky's.
