NHK M5 (MV) plus biLED retrofit into BMW e90 with AFS
BMW 335d with NHK projectors and lightwerkz AFS brackets. Just a ride along showcasing the output and operation of this setup. The car has the AHL2 Euro headlight coding which points the left light outward until 25mph. Also, the right headlight needs adjusted inward more but I'm out of mechanical adjustment unfortunately. I'm going to have to live with that.

    3 years later, is it still worth it?

    • @GTkyle
      @GTkyle 25 днів тому

      @@DonutIsGreat that answer depends on your budget, level of complication, and goals. I ran this turbo for around 8000 miles before switching to a Garrett GTX2860R with the scooter/arc enemy exhaust elbow. I put around 30,000 on that setup and would go back to that in a heartbeat. The car gained the top end power it needed without sacrificing low end punch. If you want the easiest upgrade, do the powermax. You can purchase a bundle through Monster Tuned that has an adaptive octane tune that works with this turbo. There's nothing more turn-key than that. Otherwise go big frame turbo and go all the way with it

    GF has a 1.4t in her encore. It's getting a P0299 code. From my research, it's either going to be a clogged intake or a bad turbo. What do you think of putting this turbo on in place of stock? Do you have to tune it after?

    • @GTkyle
      @GTkyle Місяць тому

      @@danielclark8578 it's 100% a worthwhile upgrade. Yes you have to tune it, I had ZZP do a remote tune on this. Even if you left all the other stock hardware in place and tuned it on 87 octane, there would be benefits to this turbo. The bare minimum though, you will need new spark plugs gapped at .026" and a high flow air filter in the factory box to help this upgrade. I would personally recommend the 42lb green giant fuel injectors, tuning on 93 octane, and a downpipe too. I don't think an upgrade intercooler is available for this model unfortunately. But these will get the most out of this turbo

    can this Turbo run perfectly with the stock 1.4L ? Is it better turbo to replace the stock one?

    • @GTkyle
      @GTkyle Місяць тому

      @@nds2969 with the proper tuning, yes. I had ZZP remote tune this car. And yes this turbo bolts onto the stock engine. The car in this video has gone almost 80,000 miles on this turbo on the stock engine (approaching 200k miles now). And yes, this turbo is miles better than the stock one. You really need to install the ZZP intercooler ,42lb green giant injectors, downpipe, and cold air to make the most of this turbo though.

    • @GTkyle
      @GTkyle 3 місяці тому

      @@mikep4916 as these cars age, they're suffering cylinder head failures. Typically the exhaust port of cylinder 1 cracks and leaks coolant back at the exhaust valves/down into the cylinder. Also smokes white when it gets really bad. That being said, make sure the person didn't just assume the turbo was blown if it happens to be smoking. Replacing the engine is the cheaper alternative to building a head for it. If I were you, I'd sell the cobalt parts on their own and buy the new ZZP Z04 turbo. It's a pretty badass little unit. Do the supporting mods to the car, and you'll be 230ish whp on pump gas or 300 on e85. It's no rocketship, but onsidering these cars make 110whp stock, it's an impressive boost. Go to zzp's UA-cam page. They bought a beat up white Cruze and did a build series with it using that new turbo.

    *SOLUTION:* Let the truck idle for about about two hours. The heat in the engine bay was enough to melt the ice and get the sensor working correctly again. If this doesn't work then wait longer. If after 4 hours this doesn't work then you may have a clogged EBP sensor/tube and then you'll have to take off the tube to clean it and use a paper clip to gently clean out the down-pipe that the tube attaches to. This just happened to me too in -40F. Interestingly enough this symptom doesn't occur when you're in Park (neutral). I know a guy that doesn't have EGR/DPF and he doesn't have to worry about carbon plugging up the EBP as much.

      You should really consider the gtX 2860. I installed one after the powermax (look at my other videos) and drivability was basically unchanged except for more top end power. Still had all the punch you'd ever want on command. I just ran stock fuel, made 340whp on 93 and 370 on e30. But that turbo maxed out can make 400 with aux fuel on an ethanol blend. You don't have to buy a new car, just change out the turbo! You'll be able to sell the 3071 and recoup some money from that.

      The engine power is not stock, no. However, I have intentionally limited 1st gear torque delivery so it doesn't just shred the tires. Torque limiting is done through xHP. I had mods that weren't necessary to make this kind of horsepower, but usually you can go from stock to this kind of power for around 4,000 including purchase of the accessport and tune. @@dannythompson1948 no sir! Basically the turbo, upgraded intercooler, better air filter (stock intake), and an external BOV or bypass option. I built my own bypass valve setup. Really that's it. Stock exhaust is good to this power, and there's a bunch of guys that will just run a downpipe hooked to the stock exhaust running big turbo. This horsepower is the limit of the stock fuel system. But most guys add an aux fuel rail to get them into the 400s on ethanol mixes. That's about 1200 bucks. Stock in-tank pump is good to 500whp, which is built engine territory anyway. It's a really good platform aside from being FWD.
