Nathan Airchime K2HA
This is my parts build narrow font Nathan Airchime K2HA. As mentioned in the video, I believe this is the correct designation for this manifold type. I saw this manifold on eBay and since no one really has done a video on it before, I figured I would be the first. This doesn't sound quite like Metrolink however. I use a manual Graham White valve and almost every piece of Metrolink equipment that I know of uses solenoids. Additionally, when I got the 4A bell from auction and opened it up, I found the first diaphragm was damaged and creased with the outline of the nozzle. I think this is the cause of the slight squeal from it in particular when I let off the valve. I might make another video when I get a new diaphragm for it. Anyways, hope you liked it and let me know what you think!

My New Train Horn Rig!

This is a brief video of a project I've been working on for a bit. I finally finished it and have been doing some test runs. For now it works great, but after having upgraded to 1/2 air hose in and out, I now realize that I need more air volume. Eventually when I save some more money, I'll get another 20 gallon tank. Let me know what you think of my setup and any suggestions you might have. Tha...
Nathan Airchime P2 Old Cast

This is my old cast Nathan Airchime P2. It uses an old cast 2 bell and a modified new cast 3 bell that plays the old cast frequency. I already have a video of this horn on the channel, but this time around I have added an additional diaphragm to each bell. Sounds okay, but in the end I think I like the sound of the new cast P2 more. I'll keep trying different bell combinations until I find one ...

At the request of one of my viewers, I took my new cast 2 and 3 bells from my P2 and my recently acquired 5 bell and bolted them onto my gullwing manifold from my old cast P3. I was quite surprised with the results. Being a sand cast horn, it sounds very similar to a sand cast K3L. However, the 5 bell was doing its own thing and lagging thanks to my 25 foot air hose. This is my Old Cast Nathan Airchime P3. According to the guy I bought it from, his dad obtained this horn from a railroad in southern California that closed down 40 years ago. I originally wasn’t going to upload this, but thought, “why not?”. This is an Old Cast Nathan P2 with bells 1 and 2. It uses single diaphragms in this video. While it is loud, it does NOT sound great and is reminiscent of a single tone Leslie found on small switchers. Honestly the New Cast version of this horn sounds much better and I might try that some day if I ever get a new cast 1 bell. Eit...

This is an all bells forward test of my old cast Nathan P5. I have an old cast P3 and I have the hybrid 3 bell but I’m missing the 5 bell. So I substituted it with a spare old cast P2 bell. This means it has bells 1,2,2,3, and 4. Hopefully one day I’ll have a 5 bell to make a proper P5, but this will work for now.

This was my first test of my brand new Nathan Airchime New Cast P2. She still has her manufacture’s tag on. This horn uses bells 2 and 3 and is well known as a Metrolink and Caltrain horn as Caltrain uses it on almost all of their equipment and the vast majority of Metrolink’s equipment had as well. However, with Caltrain’s new EMU’s, the P2 is not used and is instead replaced by some petty sin...

This is the first test of my old cast Nathan P2 . I bought the 2 and 3 bells on eBay from a great guy named Dan. The 3 bell is a hybrid, meaning it was a new cast 3 that was modified by Mike Muha to sound the correct old cast frequency. Sounds pretty good by my ears, but feel free to leave your thoughts down below. More horn content will be coming soon.

If you have a spare KS-1 bell you should swap the 4A with it to make a K12, They're quite common in Australia and they have a really nice tone to them, they can be quite punchy. If you do so, make sure not to use a restrictor at all.

    • @johnwestfieldyt

Hey, thanks for the suggestion! I do have a K1 bell as I’m in the process of building a K5LA. This 2 chime manifold has no restrictor, so I might give this combo a try. Hopefully I can get that K5LA built and have that on the channel too.

I believe it's actually a K24, as the Metrolink F125s videos I've seen show a tritone. A K24A is a perfect fourth, not as menacing sounding.

Hey, thanks for watching! I’ve read on 5 Chime consultants that Metrolink uses a 2 and 4 so I might be incorrect. At some point I will get a straight 4 and try that out. As for the F125’s, they have two horns. One is located underneath (K2H) and one located on the roof (K3LA/K3L). Hope you enjoyed just the same!

@@TheRailfan360 Yeah that is likely. That mainly happens when the horn is assembled with the wrong bell accidentally by Micro Precision or when they run out of stocked 4 bells. From what I know, Simalex die casts the horns, and Micro Precision machines and tunes the horns in-house. After all, every K horn starts out as a pile of parts.

Got no idea honestly. I think it’s this way with a lot of older early 2000’s vehicles. Also, pretty sure the Tahoe’s a 6 speed. Your point still stands though.

What do you press on the machine once you insert the tablets to make it clean? Thanks

    • @johnwestfieldyt
      @johnwestfieldyt 2 роки тому

Hey! I pressed the rinse button on the machine. The rinse button runs hot water through the machine and cleans the insides with the cleaning pellets. Hope this helps!

I’m a barista and our wand gets caked up sometimes because not everyone cleans it 😭. Also I had no idea the middle plastic piece comes off, checking my store’s machines tomorrow!!

Oh no! For us, it was always the metal grill that would get caked up with calcium and milk stuff. I'm glad this video helped lol Good luck!

hi! wondering if there are other cleaning tablets like the cafiza E42 that also work on this machine? also thank you for the video :)

Hey there Aleksandra, not sure. I would imagine there are. If they fit in the key they will probably work. At work we only ever used the E42 so a little research might help. I hope I was able to answer your question😅

Hey there. The water pump and drains are on the bottom of the machine. I never worked with them myself. I believe only the mechanics who came in to fix them when they broke were the ones to work with the water pumps.

@@JMTVProbashi Unfortunately not, sorry. Only ever saw one guy come into the store to fix one. Never talked to him. You might have some luck talking to a local Starbucks who still uses the Mastrena Espresso machine and ask about maintenance and who they have fix their’s.
