Diamond DA40 Porpoising with KAP140
Переглядів 4,7 тис.15 років тому
Porpoising autopilot in a Diamond DA40. Trying to hold altitude there are large swings of over 200' altitude changes and sometimes vertical speeds of over 2000' per minute.

Pointless
Setting the VS higher makes these problems worse, never better, the KAP 140 is referenced from its own static source and the position of this port is not the best on diamond star aircraft. I fly well maintained and HANGARED 172S SP G1000, this autopilot is my best mate and a rockstar co-pilot. George sometimes settles at a level 100' low, but its predictable and rock solid.

Great video! How did you mount the go pro on the wing? And where?
yeah, then you will have bbq sausage for dinner :P
Awesome. How's she fly?
Anna was your guide I can tell lol
One of the most beautiful videos i have ever seen, sunset is always the best time to fly! Nice one!
great video
started to view the post, as soon as the stupid music started, I moved on. What a waste of what might have been a pretty good video. Why music???
never had this issue (thankfully) but sometimes it rocks the plane a tiny bit to the left nd right
cool video. what kind of cruise can you get in that? I've never flown one with wheel pants
A couple nights ago the exact same thing happened to me. I solved it by applying pitot heat for a while then switching the kap 140 to VS 0, then pitot heat off and finally altitude hold again. The OAT was about 8C
Does it mean if you sit a bit forward you pp would be gone?
yea dude everytime I've flown with the 140 it's done that and it was with 4 different planes. I think that auto pilot just is plain weaksauce. Several other pilots who rented those planes also tended to agree....
I had that happen to me in an SR22. It was water in the pitot/static system. In my case, the VSI was jumping even though we were steady, so the autopilot was just trying to follow.
wow amazing
