when u kill a ship that has fighters accompanying it you dont need to kill the fighters they'll just disappear so its useless to waste ammunition on them
Thanks. It is a bit weird that they did not just design this to be a short turn-based mini-game instead.
In hindsight that probably would have been better, and was the plan for Xenonauts 2. Also the way the economy works, air combat is far more important strategically than ground combat, which seems backwards given the relative depth of the two modes.
You can pilot the ships by yourself?! How was i suppose to know?! I lost like 5 ships each time i tried to fight a ship

The short answer is I don't have any definite plans, however I might be able to in the fall.
Can someone explain to me how to fight against scouts? In autobattle foxtrot has 96% and condor 1% of winning. I engaged 1 scount with condor, outmanuvered him hit both rockets and used all gun ammo and still didn't kill it. Then i used foxtrot (but low on fuel) on other scout, hit both torpedoes and....didn't kill it. Conclusion is that scouts are unkillable via engage button and the only way to kill them is use autobattle on full fuel foxtrot
Is your Foxtrot using torpedoes? And are you using any mods (including Community Edition)?
@@stephanismirabar Right, maybe this is the reason, i do use community edition. Moreover after some battles i probably understood the problem. I guess mod has a bug and second torpedo simply stop after flying short distance. It looks quite bad because it it connected to my aircraft and turn whenever i turn. Thank you for reminding i have mod installed. I wouldn't remembered.

At 31:02, the alien ran inside their ship. Even if the 'Hidden Movement' screen was there, you'd be able to hear the spaceship door open. That's why you survived. However, that resulted in you wasting a turn, scared of the end of the building.
How does one get an aircraft to roll in the correct direction?
There are two separate keys for roll right/roll left (relative to current direction of travel).
Me: "It's frustrating the Foxtrot doesn't have an Autocannon like the Condor" This guy: "Just use the Condor then, idiot"
Truth in reality, the real life Foxtrot did not carry autocannons as it was intended to only engage high-altitude bombers. It was never meant for dogfights.

CE changes UFO AI, they now can switch target. So not sure if it all applies the same. Still, nice exemplary of skill (also, I was totally able to clear 3 fighters with 2 condors after gaining lasers)
Still stupidly good, can confirm. Literally used them until the last month or two of the game. Only reason I stopped was because they couldn't keep up and intercept the motherships, or whatever that was faster than a foxtrot. If there was a speed upgrade I'd never even touch marauders, maybe have one per base (or a corsair) because of escorts but that's it.

Hmm, aight so this video got recommended to me only now. The enemies seem very reluctant to firing for some reason? Trying to full-frontal assault like that nowadays gets your condors lit up pretty badly very fast. Still, great use of the dodges.
I'm too lazy to go through patch notes, so it's possible this was recorded before that last air combat rebalancing. I also pause a ton, which makes the enemy rate of fire look even slower. The general tactics are still valid though.
@@stephanismirabar Yeah, albeit i prefer a more hit and run tactic myself. I always try to force them to dodge into my missiles (happens a lot if your plane is at a 90° angle from the enemy). It's tricky but very satisfying to pull off. I've even hit fighters using torpedoes! On my last ironman run i fought off three fighters with two Foxhounds.

It'd be awesome to see an Ace Combat inspired game where you get to fight against UFOs from real life aircraft counterparts (F-16, F-22, etc.) to Super Fighter types like the ADF-01 Falken or the Yukikaze advanced fighter types.

Hmm its not really the same in X-Division mod is it? I still can't kill a fighter with an F-17 even after watching this video. Edit: I realized that you can't 1vs1 dogfight in X-Division Mod, you need atleast 3 F-17's because a alien Fighter got countermeasures, more HP and seemingly faster at turning than in vanilla Xenonauts
This is recorded in vanilla, prior to release. Mods can completely change things up.
...There's ways to air combat other than the thatch weave?

This looks like a pretty fun game to play. I am wondering how much it has changed in the several years that have passed since this video was made.
I'm pretty sure this run was recorded after release, but before the last patch. The game didn't change much aside from a few quality of life changes and bug fixes.

@@Savior20061 engineer: all we do is change the material of the airframe..so it's almost "technically" the same plane
@@Savior20061 They're actually not though. F-16s are aluminum based. these are more like the real f-17 and the f/a-18 which are titanium magnesium. It says in the xenopedia. Its why your planes can take some hits and local forces are mostly incapable. These planes are experimental. And it just so happens these new light materials being used are much more heat resistant.

Kinda late but does this still work with the Community Edition in 2019? My condors have very short evasive distance and cannot roll out of the firing arc of the scout, for example.
