Are you in the Pacific Northwest which city?
I am about 30 min outside Portland Oregon
Great video! RedMax is by far the best brand (along with oldschool Solo blowers) imo. Your video helped me replace the new throttle assembly; the throttle assembly that I replaced was malfunctioning because a friend must’ve forced the trigger too far one way or the other causing the throttle to stay wide open. Upon inspection, everything was in place: cable slot on handle, screws, throttle cable to top of carb, kill switch, etc. The throttle cable inside the black tube housing the cable was completely stuck, even after spraying cable lubricant thoroughly through the throttle cable. Has anyone ever had their throttle cable get stuck inside the black throttle cable covering it? If so, perhaps the correct answer can save someone else from having to replace the entire assembly as I did. 🤘🏻
I have had a cable break which caused it to be stuck. Some of the strands bind up inside the loom
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn 👍🏻. Thanks for the information. That was a tough one. If you get a chance, I’d like to know what you think about the new 9000. The 6500 is ideal imo (light weight, small size, and ample power for weekly mowing).
Ps thanks for making these videos, still very helpful information for people. I also sprayed Kroil in the cylinder when doing the compression test just to make sure nothing was sticking and it didn’t change a thing, zero compression.
Do you hear a whistle when pulling it over?
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn No whistle, I’m starting to wonder if it didn’t have a valve stuck open and then in the process of taking it apart it bumped closed without me noticing, it’s all the way down now so I guess I’ll put a seal kit in it and reassemble (with proper sealant) adjust the valves, and see what happens. It doesn’t look like a super clapped out unit, cam gear shows no wear and is only moderately stained, plastics are fairly clean and in good health. Don’t know any history on it, it was a freebie because it didn’t run.
Trying to diagnose a fs90r with no compression, took the whole engine apart after not finding anything up top, still didn’t find anything, cylinder and rings look good, brake clean in cylinder doesn’t leak past the valves, guess I’m gonna go watch your other video now…
Omg! Turn the gas on!
How Much Compression Should It Have ?
Should have a minimum of 100
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn mines got 50
did you try starting it with the trigger lock on? that's how you start these usually. It appears the bar break handle is missing and is likely engaged or there's an issue in the gear box.
Do you have a link for the belt? I cant find it based on the part numbers
Nice job
Set that Governor while it running using the kill o watt to 62 hrz
Knew idle was to low to start. Governor keeps the throttle wide open when not running it adjust once started to the control of said Governor.
hi nice video mine runs and die with brand new stihl carb, it has now only one setting screw , i m lost i dont know what to do, i have spark, i even cleaned it, tried all settings on the screw but still runs like s... and dies unfortunatly
I would check the exhaust port. There is a small screen that will often get clogged causing this issue. If that doesn't work the carb needs to be adjusted
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn ok than you, unlike most of the hs45 video that i ve seen on youtube, i cannot unscreen the pipe and there no metal screen there , ppl would unscrew that piece and burn it with propane, looks like i cant so i have to take off the entier pipe ?
Just stopped by to say thanks... but probably not what you intended this video for. I took mine apart and of all things I could NOT remember how that heat shield fro the exhaust was mounted. I scoured the internet trying to find a picture of that area. Thanks for the closeup!
Ok, I have the same saw. Here is my problem. I just bought it and there wasn’t a tightening screw for the bar, I bought a stainless steel screw and put it in, the saw somehow self tightened its chain…??? Any idea how to stop this ???
The screw is moving the adjuster. I would take the blue lock tight. It is removable but keeps the screw from moving. Not the best solution but it would be cheap and effective
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn the sprocket was bad had a grove cut all the way down all the around, changed it saw runs beautifully
My B&S started making that noise after I stalled it when I hit a big rock. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for the tip!
You might want to make sure your flywheel key isn't broken
THIS GUY KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING SMARTER THEN THE HONDA DEALER IN CAMBRIDGE OHIO WHO COULDNT GET MINE RUNNING MUFFLER... !! FIXED IT... FIRST PULL NOW
Sounds like you had a bit of an issue lol. Glad it helped
Sweet!
Funkery!
I've worked on a bunch of Hondas but never one of those commercial models. They look just a tad beefier than the regular homeowner ones.
They are. They also don't use a belt for the transmission which is both great for longevity but horrible for repair. Win some loose some
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn ohhh...didn't realize that!
Great video. Short and to the point with great step by step explanations of what was checked and what actually fixed it
Great find
Change oil every season use high zinc racing oil put 1 oz marvel oil per gallon of gasoline you probably don't have to do this I have a 2 hp B&S flat head on a mc lane edger 55 years old. Starts 1st or 2nd pull runs strong
Oddly enough I just filmed a video that has these tips and others. Will be coming out in a few weeks
What that’ part called the one you replaced?
Search Kohler auto choke and you will find two types. They look very different so match the one you have
What is the name of that pen
Pen?
My hilti saw starts and runs but when I let off the throttle it dies and the air filter is clean I put in a new carb
It needs to be tuned. The new carb is kinda tuned at the factory but not exactly. I have videos on how to tune a 2 cycle. You can also email me at pnw.smallengineandlawn@gmail.com if you need any specific tool recommendations or instructions
I had the pleasure of working on one of those a couple weeks ago for the first time. It would start just fine but it was surging. When the blades were engaged it seemed to run fine and you couldn't hear any surging. Nevertheless the customer wanted me to stop it from surging. I cleaned the heck out of the carb but still surged after about a minute of running. I ended up replacing the carb which fixed the problem. Thanks for your uploads big guy!!
I have also drilled out the main jet to the next size up. Seemed to work as well
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn thanks Mike, I never really think to try something like that. But I can see now it's at least worth trying especially since I usually end up putting a new carb in anyway.
Mine one have it like yours goes straight to exhaust same model
Good Video - saved this one.
Rebuilding a year old BR800X that the wrist pin seized due to straight gas being used. The timing marks on this one is different from the BR600's that we have. I found your video most helpful. Thanks!
I have one the gas cap vent was the problem wouldn't let gas get to the carb
I take the gas cap off and fuel goes right to it and crank
That isnt too common. Good diagnosis
My HS45 starts fine. But you cant throttle it, at least not at one...if you sorta rev it up and let it down a couple times, you can sorta ramp the RPMs up, but never to full throttle. I was so excited to check the spark arrestor, and it is clean....spark plug, air filter and fuel filter all new, and still doing it. Never ran ethanol in it.
It probably needs to be tuned. Carb can get out of tune over time
What is the purpose of that small rectangle hole on front right side of mower body? Mine used to have a black cover, but it fell off.
On front wheel drive version that was where the transmission pulley would be
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn Thanks. Do I need to make a cover for this opening?
No not really. You should make sure the paint isn't chipped so it doesn't rust but that is the main concern
У меня такой же 😁
Best video on the tube. My year old Westinghouse was frozen and I soaked cylinder with Marvel for two days with no hope of moving. Then saw this video and turned the motor clockwise and it spit the marvel oil along with the water in the head that was floating the oil and keeping it from the seized spot. After carb removal and a soak with WD40 we are running strong. I must say the carb gaskets are crap-probably where the water was sucked in.
Do all Briggs and Stratton mowers have the same make up because mine has the the same noise,
Yes. As long as it is the same type. Flat head or OHV will obviously be different. There might be small differences but majority will be very similar
You don't show what was wrong or what you did to fix it
Probably should try watching it
Great video, if you could please do a video with a more in depth explanation of how to tune the carb thanks much appreciated
I don't have this specific machine anymore but I will be making a general 2 cycle tuning video that should help. The same techniques are used for all
People that have no idea what they are doing keep me in business. Thank you.
Ya some people don't realize how costly laziness or bad ideas can cost them.
How do I get the black plastic pice off so I can work on the carb?
Great words of wisdom there. I just do this as a hobby but I got a lot out of this video!
So dumb that those puller holes aren’t pre tapped by Briggs and Stratton.
Agreed
Hey Mike is that a Mclane Edger I spy in the background? A guy just dropped off that same one and an earlier model with the bigger gas tank he wants to switch the tanks on. We'll see how it goes.
I do believe it is. I don't remember if that was my neighbors or the one I found for free on a corner. Luckily those tanks are not too bad to remove.
This might be the solution to a current issue I am having with a Husq RWD self propelled mower. It will start after several pulls and run for a few minutes, then run rough and die. I thought it was the float bowl but that seems to be working ok, and clean. In my own hack diagnosis I seen the auto choke pin and pulled the pin out for a look at it, didn't know the rest of it could come out. It did project out while the motor was hot and after about 10 min of cooling down I was able to press it back in. But, as you show, its an easy replace so I'll order the part and hope it does the trick. Thanks for the video. I seen your replacement was a pink color, OEM I assume. Seems the non-OWM are not that color and half the price.
Yes. The pink one is the OEM and I would definitely recommend not using anything else

Thank you Mike! I have that very blower for about 10 or 12 years now with no issues so far. But then again I tend to take very good care of my stuff.
I have the same issue that you had.....however I cannot get the piece behind the unloader valve pulled out of the housing....I can tell the ball is frozen in place like yours was....you mention just get a pick in the inner hole and it pulls right out.....mine seems to be really stuck in there.....I guess I will get aggressive with it
Ya sometimes that happens. Little work and it should come out
I've had this happen to a Robin as well as a briggs. I'm very attentive to turn the fuel off on the carbs now.
Happens all the time. It's why I do the same
I just changed the carb on my Honda 4 stroke mantis, and it’s still bogging down any thoughts?
Could be a tuning issue. New carbs often need a adjustment. If you need any help you can message me at pnw.smallengineandlawn@gmail.com
