I read these back in the 80's. Such good stories. The team up was interesting as well. My favorite Fritz Leiber story is the one with the time soldier and telepathic demonic looking hounds.

whats kind of funny is that steelhead was BY FAR the strongest metabaron but the love that he learned to make his successor was what made him be defeated. the same way Steelhead himself defeated his father. if he simply remained unfeeling and without the hubris of trying to be recognized for his power he would never have sought love and he would be without any weakness

Tried very hard , but just didn't get on with the Elric stories ! I have no idea why ? Because I love The Eternal Champion series ! I preferred Corum ! I love The Warhound and the World's Pain , that could be a great movie ! I did try very hard to love Elric , I didn't dislike the stories , I really did prefer Corum , a quite beautiful character in my opinion !

It is the basic simplicity of the concept that makes it works so well. Ultimately in every story the Champin is not striving for the totality of the extremes - good or bad, law or chaos - but a stability that takes from both sides. This basic concept, allows the stories for each character to unfold naturally, without the need for massive explanation - and thereby usually contradiction.

My favorite exchange in the whole of the Rokugan world is between Kakita and Mirumoto. I believe (if I'm remembering correctly from decades ago. Lol) the set up is Kakita had just written his treatise on swordsmanship and had the beautifully poetic line: "One man, one blade, one strike." When asked what he thought of it Mirumoto just shrugged and said "Two hands." I always thought hat was such a great encapsulation of both the difference in their personalities and fighting philosophy.

I always loved the idea of the lore of Iuchiban, but he was just a distant memory and piece of flavor text during the time I played the card game. I do know later, he was even given a card and a (new?) storyline! It's so fascinating. Thank you for doing this series!
