This looks like a high quality campaign, on par with some official ones. Gotta give it a try. Also, average 11th century european lord: I'm a nice guy, helping pilgrims and all (while also burning villages to the ground).

Ehi I'm the the designer, this campaign is very hard I must say, I was thinking of increasing the time the enemy troops need to train and maybe take out Trebs altogether on standard difficulty. Anyway thanks for playing it, you're actually the first one I see here posting a playthrough about it! (go guess why ahah)

Hey, since you're a map maker, I gotta ask: why do AoE2 campaign creators always make their campaigns very, very hard? So many custom campaigns have five AI with infinite resources spamming elite units for two hours that I slowly stopped playing them. Why can't a custom campaign have a difficulty that's kinda similar to that of official campaigns?
Actually there are campaigns where you play against enemies with economies, I can think of Aegidius on top of my head. I can speak only for myself of course but my idea is that there are random maps for build and destroy type of scenarios and the official campaigns are becoming rather repetitive with not much new mechanics and starting to resemble each other in some cases. The more you try to experiment with triggers the more the risk of doing something that's clunky or cool but not very funny. It's not always easy to find a balance between being accessible and doing exactly what you have in mind. As for the spam in itself the thing is that the AI behaviour can be very random (pathfinding too doesn't help), specially in AI Vs AI setting like in this scenario, and you could play one match where your ally is good enough at defending and the other where he gets obliterated in the first 5 minutes. I wanted to make this campaign very difficult and I had a play tester who said the balance was ok (though he's probably too good at this game) so it's intended in a way although after seeing this and the other video I decided to make it easier even though as a designer it is not very satisfying to see your scenarios becoming too easy. The reason? Well probably a mix of things... Having few to no play testers makes the testing phase very boring and repetitive so it all ends up looking too easy and predictable in our eyes but that's just because we played it a dozen times and we know exactly what to expect... Still it's not easy to "forget" everything when you're the creator and maybe act stupid on purpose iykwim. Also I'm personally nostalgic of 90s arcade games where you couldn't beat a level for weeks or even months before figuring out a strategy, although times have probably changed and we have so many games to play today that this approach may simply not work anymore and one just abandon the game if be can't beat a level after three tries. Finally there may be a bit of vanity from my side, maybe I don't like seeing players beat a level too easily when I've worked so long for it for free... Still it's not that I like seeing people not able to beat it at all. I guess it's reasonable to need a try or two (or even more if it's one of the final scenarios) to beat a level although official campaigns are designed in a way that you can comfortably beat them at first attempt and not only on standard exactly cause they need to grab you by the hand otherwise you would go to play ten thousands other games you have on steam instead. Again the struggle for balance is hard to achieve and the game lends itself a bit at being frustrating since, even with an economy, it's all a matter of who can spam more units in a short time. Also when I made this campaign I couldn't make AIs so all enemies are moved by triggers alone, I recently learned to make them however and my next campaign has proper AI. Anyway after my last update this scenario and the next one seemed too easy to me tbh so I think everyone should be able to beat them now, let me know if you meet some issues in case and thanks for giving me the chance to explain my method!
@@brucewayne3472 As a long time player of custom campaigns, I can appreciate your desire to come up with something different. Also I can appreciate your desire to make things not too easy. Nonetheless after attempting this one (on hard of course), I can't see a way to win, given the relentless infinite unit spam that renews very quickly, the lack of an economy, comparatively few units and no control over the castles that you are supposed to defend. But having said that it's probably my poor playing skills - especially poor micro skills and not the game. Thanks for putting in the time to make this campaign. (having said all that, would appreciate some concrete advice to surviving the initial battle.
No don't worry you're right this whole campaign is very hard, harder than Constantinople as a whole (unless maybe a couple of scenarios), it was all intended but I realised I'm sacrificing a lot of potential players for nothing... So I recently made some changes after seeing these videos and the first two scenarios are definitely easier now so you may want to try them again. Let me know in case they're still too much!

The Saxon civilization is missing from the game! These guys had an impact on history, especially in the formation of England! It would be a civilization similar to the Celts with a focus on infantry and siege!

thats teutons already. the saxons were more of a sea civilization and a lot of trash. So you would need a sea / trash civilization with just like one or two really powerfull ones.
@@nocomment6421 It would give an idea of the Germanic peoples' war with the arrival of the Saxons, Lombards and Vandals. They would have a strong naval fleet and perhaps complete the Saxons as you said.
@@lucassousa.521 Well you kinda have to distinguish that. "Germanic" is such a far streched heritage. a lot of people assume just because of the Name that germanic people are related deeply to "Germany" but thats not true. Todays Germans are a mixture out of like 30% slavic, 30% northic, 30% western erupean and 10% depending on anything. And the same goes for the old tribes that would not even consider themself as "germanic". Calling a saxon next to a bavarian - both - "germanic" would be a death sentence in that time. And it kinda is today LOL (just kidding im from germany but yeah north germans, saxons and bavarian people still hate each other or try its best to "prove" to the other that they are better) So Lombards and Vandals would not have a strong navy. The saxons only but they woould hire any piece of S....hiny unit the could get on their boats. While vandals would more like raidors on food with a lot of villigars. So Vandals would be more like all about extra gold for killing units and hunting - no farms and theri villagers would be their actual primary unit. Would make an intersting civ, because it would mean you need to equip your units/ villagers with tools depending on the work to do adding loading time. And for the lombards, they actually went south - litterly - to italy. So they would be covered already with the italians. But you could add, as a german faction, if you consider todays germany - the bavarians. they would be very defensive. having extra bouns when attacking down the hill and take no extra damage while attacking upwars (due to their habitat in the alps) Also extra bonus for farms and sheeps and have the unique building -> brewery to make beer which give you extra gold while making your villlagers working slower and slower (because drunk lol) over time. Having most of the defence buildings and upgrades and also the unique tech "Wiesn" which is a festival that would generate money instead of food, wood and stone over a short period of time when activated. the amount depends on the amount of breweries you have which are not cheap to balance it out. this civ would not be op thanks to its ability to generate gold . their builidns for that must be very expensive also the negatvie factor to the economy itself needs to be accounted for. For the unique unit i would go with the "Bavarian engineer" to counter the negative impact for food in exchange for "beer" (money) you can build these units to repair your defence buildings much faster and less recources than with villagers. like 4 to one. so having a bunch of them in the late game can actually prevent a castle to go town by trebuchet. lets say like 2 / 1 ratio. So while you can hold against a trebuchet fire your slower villagers generate you money too and you can affort real knight to counter the trebuchets - and so on.
@@nocomment6421 Your idea is good, it would have to be discussed with the game developers, but they wouldn't listen to the community anyway. My suggestion for a new DLC would be Germanic invasions like the Saxons, Vandals and Lombards. Now, in terms of economy and units, I would have to research the medieval articles. From the little I researched, the Germanic tribes were farmers, they would have bonuses in relation to food and military, and they served as mercenaries for Rome.

The ghaznavids are defined as an old "Persianate Muslim dynasty and empire of Turkic mamluk origin" so they are mainly Persians, only their northwestern land was located in India

This mission really drags on in in the later parts when you have a good economy and full upgrades but only one production building and you have to transport ship everything over. On hard difficulty enemies will have full armies and unit spam.

I won at the hardest level. It's worth putting all infantry on the tower where the wall is (where attacks occur); from the left side, the green ones attack with boats, so you need to fortify the shore with houses. I didn't use the Saxons' call even once. The best strategy in this mission is to build many towers, train crossbowmen and knights. You can fence with a wooden wall; the more, the better. The enemy destroys the miracle at the end, which gives time to develop the base in the lower left corner. Plus, at the end of the game, I used the fact that with three peasants I entered the center of the Saxons' city, closest to the blue wall; there I left the entire army, and the Saxons didn't revolt throughout the game. I played at the slowest speed and used active pause.

I am at Year 1000 and have beat the Avars, but i have no Idea how to beat the Lombards. They recruit units every second and every one of my invading armies is wiped out. I try to build castles near the enemy's main base, but I just get overrun if I do that. And because the Lombards spam Genoese crossbowmen, knights are useless to me.
try to rush them before they develop so much
@@patriarchius Rushing is not my thing. Just won the scenario by getting the Lombard Scholar from a suicide attack, which meant I had all four and could build a Wonder. I have to say, I hate this scenario. Stupid design to have the Ai cheat so much that you can't beat them in the late game.

I just discovered your channel and yes, I am the creator of this campaign 11. Made this campaign when I was 17, about two years ago. I find it quite interesting to see people trying out my custom campaigns. Loved the playthrough! It's a shame that my work is not yet recognised in the campaign community, but that doesn't stop me from creating more custom campaigns. I am currently working on a 7 part Mayan custom campaign for a year now. (couldn't find the time to get it all arranged lol). It's almost done! @@patriarchius i was an archer freak at that time 11(Viets was my go-to civ) . I have always wanted to start off with Indochina when it came to making custom campaigns. Realising that Siamese heavily used archers in combat made me wanna create a custom campaign for the same lol. My latest non ROR custom campaign is "Memories of the Gupta Dynasty", a rework originally created by Andrea Rosa for AOE I. You can try it out. (for some reason in part two of the campaign, orange=passive AI resigns for some reason. Tried to fix it but in vain :/ so yeah beware of that 11, other than that it's quite good!)

If I had to rec other campaigns by Neky, I would go with Mehmed II or Admiral Jang Bogo. IMO his Mehmed II is the best Mehmed II custom campaign out there; certainly in terms of gameplay. The final level is insane. I even told him it was my mission to beat level 6 on hard and once I did it, informed haha. The MLC Mehmed the Conqueror has all these bells and whistles, while the Neky Mehmed II is all about the gameplay
i love mlc's campaigns very much he is the best at storytelling and feeling of be part of history. i'm gonna play other campaigns from neky. I think im gonna do mehmed 2 both from mlc and neky and see who is done better 11
@@patriarchius Yeah, that is his deal and what he brings. You should do both because both of them are great. My preference is the Neky one, but it is not like I don't find the MLC one great too. Neky's Mehmed just happens to be among my favorite custom campaigns. It also is not as long and choreographed. As for the MLC one, my favorite is actually the 2nd level which is as far from Neky Choi's style as can be, but that is why they can coexist! I am trying to find out if CatScientist or Neky are going to put out any new campaign material. Catsci says he is almost done with a Teuton campaign, but that was a while ago and he was away at school. I think Ilam may have a Sicilian campaing on the way, and Kitty aka Shimakaze will have a crazy Vietnamese one coming which I have been testing

@@patriarchius Well I talk with Shimakaze now and then, and had been doing the same with Catsci. I've only talked to Neky through YT. Also the primary translator and advisor for many Chinese language campaigns I speak to regularly. Awesome guy
Nice, a Neky Choi campaign. His work typically has the greatest difference between how the levels play between Standard, Moderate, and Hard imo. Standard is, well, standard, Moderate is hard, and Hard, depending on the level, is often extremely challenging. Rarely goes for the grind aspect of challenge. Some of his most difficult levels can be beaten with a single TC, which I only found out directly from Neky

@@patriarchius That is why I think Neky is great. You can ease into any campaign level at your level. Also, if someone does not play for a while, the differences between difficulties are important, especially for levels that don't end up in crazy grind. I would go through his campaigns on standard, then moderate, then hard, assuming. His difficulty settings are unique for each. Grindy levels become harder with difficulty setting bc the AI becomes more aggressive and snowballs into mayhem haha but many don't have specific changes in the campaign design to reflect the difficulty level
