How To Build a Silent Pellet Trap
Quick and simple way to eliminate lead dust indoors while using your pellet gun.
Okay, this is not rocket science, but sometimes simple is not obvious.

How To Make Wax Bullets For Shooting Practice
Переглядів 47 тис.11 років тому
Reload revolver cartridges with primer powered wax bullets. Shows how to size, de-cap, make the wax mixture, drill out flash hole, prime, and then shoot the cartridges. Great for less than lethal firearms practice for: -Cowboy action shooting -fast draw practice -IPSC and IDP -Defensive firearms procedures -General fun
Interesting, I have been considering building a Steel Trap like that. And, have experience .25 cal pellets from my Marauder nearly turning into powder when hitting steel at close range. I have mulled over using an absorbing wall prior to the Steel Backdrop. I like your suggestions, thanks for your Post. I also noticed an image in the Background CG-57 and had to back it up several times to be certain that what I thought I saw, was in fact the Hull Number for a US Navy Cruiser. I notice things like that, I am a former US Navy Sailor from the early 70's. I was in Amphibious Expeditionary Task Force 76 aboard the Flag Ship USS Denver for three years including the 1975 Vietnam Evacuation of Saigon....... Operation Frequent Wind. Don
Seems a little toxic for the environment with axle grease in it.
How much does 1 duct seal brick weigh please?
You get an A+ for presentation, perseverance and will to explain everything, but. But. This looks like an awful lot of work, and my hand hurts just from watching you press those into that mix. I'll take a pass on this
Duck or duct?
Haha. Allegedly. That trap is a piece of amazon crap😊 Electrical supply house has the cheapest for service entrances.
I tried a similar trap and those same duct seal packets. When the weather turned cooler, the duct seal started to slump and detach from the back of the sloped back plate of the trap. I haven't found a solution. I may switch to the rubber mulch type of storage bin trap.
Anything to clean up the firearms after using wax bullets?
Good for steel .177 bbs?
More fun to cover the inside with exploding targets.
Fantastic thanks for sharing your informative video 👍👍👍👍👍
10 minute video that could have been 2 minutes and then you didn't show how it works! You're kidding me!
I've been using an electrical box with duct seal on the back (vertical) surface for years, and it works very well. I use a tweezers to pull the pellets from the duct seal and then smash the duct seal down with my hands and it's ready to go again. I don't shoot high power guns into the trap. You have to keep an eye on duct seal and move the target around so you don't blow a hole in the seal and start having results you don't like.
Maybe you should have just let the wax get cool enough to press the shells to the bottom of the pan and then let the wax set up then pull them out
I made some hot glue balls in my .44 molds and they worked great.
"I don't have time for DYI projects" says the guy that reloads for 20 different calibers.
Cleaning is nightmarish.
He looks like Joe Biden
It's Butyl Rubber Sealant
🖖 👍
Buenisima idea, vamos a probarla. Gracias
Cardboard box, 3/4 plywood in the back and fill with old clothes , blankets, curtains, towels etc and there you go ! Easy !
What is the ratio of wax to grease?
If you use toilet ring wax you may not need the grease.
Will they work in a semi auto if I load one at a time? I know the action of my slide and 18 pound spring would instantly crush them but this is a very cool idea for drawing practice
talk faster dude
You can make him talk faster. You have that power.
Thank you.
What's the name of that hand reloading tool? I want it!
Stuff a cheap Polly fill pillow into the box that thing came in ,tape it up good and you’ll have a better silent pellet trap for about $5 ..
Hot wax and grease...wasn't that used in medieval times?
Great job. Don't done play the importance of your videos message. It is a great message. It will help many. Just got new rifle I need to zero scope on. So this helps a lot. Thank you. Nothing stupid about you or what you have to say.
It sounds good, but what if I want to re-melt and re-use this lead? Would I have to dig all the pellets out of the putty?
Wow, so many comments on one man’s method for controlling the lead fragments in this bullet/pellet trap! As Clark G said “With a good airplane, you can fly into Reno from anywhere”. One man’s roof is another man’s floor... . There may be “better” ways to contain, control pellet particles, but this looks like a method that will work. Heavy, yes, expensive... ? well, having health issues from lead poisoning or something like that could be way more costly. Me ? I’m shooting into a small shop vac turned on it’s side into the opening filled with old bath towels. It works, but not a solution that works really well (hard to attach a target) I’m going to upgrade to a similar “bullet” trap that cost less, you bolt it together (instead of it being welded together like the Champion model) I’m going to hang cloth, towels, or old denim jean material across the back a few inches behind where the targets are attached in the front. 3-5 layers of material might be enough to slow it down, and/or stop the pellets so they don’t break apart. The bigger concern is the surrounding area behind and to the sides of the trap. Already put two holes in closet door - one penetrated completely, the other didn’t go through all the way. Misses happen, but until I come up with a solution for a proper backstop, I’m not shooting CO2 pellet pistol inside. Thinking of polycarbonate sheet (Lexan) but the bigger and thicker is not an inexpensive proposition... how thick does Lexan have to be to stop a .177 cal. pellet @max 430 ish FPS?
Why couldn't I try to use a necked cartridge to use as a cast to produce bullets for reloading?
Would you recommend for .223 Remington?
I don't see why not the only two things that come to mind would be you are only using it as a single shot since the primer likely wouldn't cycle they BCG and the possibility of small bits of wax depositing into the gas tube. Like I said though it would probably work it just sould be single loading also because like my pistol I want to try it in loading a mag full and cycling the action instead of hand loading each round will likely be crushed on the feed ramp on its way into the chamber lol it could get messy real quick
@@dthundergunb3115 it would be messy very quick with 300 blk.
@@Qweeds that's one caliber upper thats on my list to get I am new to the platform and got a 5.56 1:8 16" upper from Bear Creek Arsenal it's pretty nice for a budget priced upper, and I picked up a K.E. Arms KP-15, I love it its a multi-caliber one piece polymer injection moulded lower that has an M16-A2 length stock. I got the compkete lower fpr 221 and some change and it's super light. I've shot quite a few different AR's my friends have, I want an AR-10 as well. One thing I didn't catch in the video is what ratio of bees wax to grease he mixed it to. I was was going at it before watching the video and was doing it all wrong lol I was putting one of my axle bullet molds in the freezer, and then melting some paraffin wax over the mold and actually casting just bullet length sizes I didn't know you had to cast the entire case length. I was also about to charge the cases with some shotgun powder cuz I'm loading some up for my 45 ACP to be able to shoot some inside the house into a wood target lol
Or just throw a bunch of rags or old clothes in a cardboard box
I bought a 5 lb block of that stuff on Amazon for $19.95. It was delivered the day after I ordered it.
great and I will do the same, any idea if its safe to shoot 9mm handgun or 22lr rifle at 25 ft indoor with this setup ?
I prefer that people actually try things out before they make a video. If he had, he would have known that the grease wasn’t going to fully melt and he would have known how the petroleum jelly would perform. Otherwise good info.
I like the idea but at $28 worth of duct seal and the added 7-8 lbs had it turned out to be "worth it"? I use scrap 2"x12" boards lol as a trap so the price is right and it's quiet.
Thank you, just what I needed to know.
4:00 Why are you resizing?
Is it working well the same soaking brasses in soft or liquid wax rather than hard wax ??
I like things simple, proceeds to overcomplicate things lol.
and now the pellets get stuck.. lost the usefulness of the pellet trap.. just fill an old cooler with a sh*t load of old paper and that works perfect! and is A LOT CHEAPER.
A pellet trap isn't for keeping the pellets. It's for "trapping" them from ricocheting or otherwise going somewhere you don't want. This particular trap is meant for .22 rimfire. Your cooler idea might be cheaper upfront, but you'll have to keep replacing the paper and eventually the cooler. I've had this exact trap for about 5 years and it's still working like a champ.
Great video. For an easier life, maybe stand cases neck down into melted wax, cool together, then extract cases.
like watching paint dry......no wonder he doesn't have much time on his hands, everything takes so long!
in comparison, paint drying is much more entertaining
JEEEEZZZZZZZZZ ! 😳 DUDE JUST USE CARDBOARD TO FILL THE SPACE UP ! ! ! VERY CHEAP AND EASY TO USE !
I think I would have tried old heavy duty carpet
Bearing grease is toxic why not use mineral oil.
