Avro Lancaster Maiden Flight! Funtioning Mid Upper Turret?!
Todays the day! We take my Avro Lancaster up to Easy Flyers Airfield for its maiden flight! This is another model that i have designed and built myself, a 7ft wingspan MONSTER! Fitted with a functioning 360 degree mid upper turret?!?! Make sure you watch to see that in action! We hope to do much more content with this Lancaster and many other WW2 models too! Enjoy!
Modelled on Lancaster PB534 of 582 Squadron, it is my memorial to the crew member and aircraft that did not return home.

    I would strongly suggest that you use some silicone liquid lubricant on any hinges before coating. Also after it dries use a little bit of wax furniture polish in areas like where your flaps retract together. Or you may find they stick. I learned this on my first one. It had been drying for almost a week and I had flaps that wanted to stick.

      Because the spray version can get into areas where you don’t want it to get. If get inside servo push rod holes. They can get all gummed up and stuck. It would suck if you were trying to turn plane 350 ft in the air and it would turn… Due to gummed up and stuck push rod. 😬

    Hey, just finishing up a red biplane. I use an airbrush and have often wondered but hesitated. This made sense in my mind to surface harden it a bit along with the other benefits. Are there any drawbacks? IDK if this is a question for Lockheed but have you noticed and change in performance with different textured exteriors, or even props? Just control surfaces. That tool makes it possible to build up textures on a microscopic level, I’m sure u know. Ever experienced with textures for different characteristics? Beautiful birds you have. 🍻

  • @jmcfadden8618
    @jmcfadden8618 8 місяців тому

    Testing results with the shinning. Flies good, but really need low throws to start with. I set my rates at 15 with 70 expo. Will up once I get used to the plane. Wonder what everyone else is using? On another note landing on grass fields is tough on props as plane tends to tip forward (typical tail dragger with small wheels). I decided to velcro a nosewheel for now and that works great as a prop saver. Used velcro so it can pull off easily rather than damaging the plane. A couple of other issues. The epp foam is weak. I had a control horn pull out with a bit of epp. Never had that issue with crash test hobbies. Their epp foam is much stronger. The control horn design is not the best. Would be much better to have ones with back on the opposite side of the elevator, rudder or alerion. And I wonder why they didn't cut the rudder on angle to avoid ground contact? But in spite of that it's is a good plane and looking forward to more outings.

    Small question as I'm about to build one. The instructions show two types of glue are required. (502 and UHU) I assume where it does mention use glue it means UHU and and when it mentions foam adhesive use 502. They only show a pic of a tube used to glue two pieces of fuselage together. I assume I should use foam adhesive not UHU. Is that correct? I tied a test glue of two small EPP pieces I had from another build using UHU and they did not stick so not sure if UHU will be an issue. Thanks in advance.

    • @easyflyers

      UHU Por is for polystyrene that is a great glue to use or a polystyrene friendly glue. That was the only glue I used 😀 I hope this helps!

      @@mattharris2309 Sorry Matt but you are sorely misinformed there! EPP (Expanded Poly Propylene) is a completely different compound than EPS (Expanded Poly Styrene - also known as Styrofoam/Beer Cooler Foam/Horizon Slobby Foam.) EPS will be dissolved by anything that contains the mildest organic solvent, whereas EPP can be glued with Toluene containing glues with impunity. Try it! But also take note that the EPO foam (Expanded Poly Oleofin foam) that is used for many larger commercial RTF planes is a mixture of Polymerized Plastics and often WILL be affected by solvent containing glues in the same way as EPS. 😉

      @theoztreecrasher2647 Рік тому

      @@roadstar499 Super glues (of any type) have their place but may not be the best choice for use on EPP. EPP (unlike EPS) is a very flexible foam and Super glues (also epoxy glues) tend to be hard and inflexible leading to cracking at the joints as the foam deforms. Another problem with EPP planes is that they usually have residual mould-release compound on the outside meaning that (if you don't remove it by solvents (isopropyl alcohol is good) or sanding, a lot of glues don't stick to it properly. Hot glue will melt through it and solvent-based glues like contact cements will generally dissolve it off without affecting the EPP foam.

      No. Not by itself. You can use thin plastic, hinge tape, or JB epoxy for plastic before you coat it. I have inset plastic from milk jugs in those areas. If I am going to repaint a aircraft I do my first coating to level the EPO. Sand and repeat until the little voids are gone. Then paint and use the spray version to final coat. It usually only takes a thin coat. This process greatly reduces the hanger rash and doesn’t add much weight. It reduces the aerodynamic drag and stiffens the EPO.

    Interesting and informative video. I gave up trying to source Flite test foam in the UK at an affordable price. I also tried using white Westfoam for a couples of models but it is heavy and doesn't lend itself well to the Flite test folds as I found getting the paper off cleanly a nightmare. I use Diall Polystyrene Insulation board from B and Q which looks like depron to me. It is for underlay but is very light and you can get it in 3, 6 or 9 mm thickness. I have built a few models with it and you can glue it using UHU POR or hot glue. I have also used it to make a couple of Flite test models with it and just covered it each side in coloured packing tape for finishing and so you can do the required cuts, folds and hinges.

    Now I know why my bends on the white West Foam don't work so well, was not aware of the difference the FT foam makes! Don't feel so bad now that I struggled to get decent bends

    Dancing wings models are kinda hit and miss. I have a rainbow flying wing and it needed a bit of structural support and some hinge relief before I had and confidence that it would fly, I flys flys realy well now. I've seen a bunch of reviews on the Bobber that just wouldn't fly propper at all.
