-- As far as I'm concerned, if you can't answer all of the following basic questions about Critical Race Theory correctly, you really don't know enough about it to have an intelligent opinion on the subject. In one sentence, what is Critical Race Theory? What problem did Derrick Bell and others wrestle with that eventually led to the founding of the critical race theory movement? What did Professor Herbert Wechsler's questioning of whether the Supreme Court's decision in Brown v. Board of Education could be justified on the basis of "neutral" principles, have to do with the origination of Critical Race Theory? Who originated Critical Race Theory? What was the problem that led to the origination of Critical Race Theory? Why did the originator of Critical Race Theory believe the Supreme Court shouldn't have reversed Plessy v. Ferguson? How did the Godfather of Critical Race Theory shatter the shining image of a celebrated Supreme Court civil rights ruling? What is the Interest-Convergence Dilemma? What was “The Alternative Course?” Did Critical Race Theory embrace Critical Legal Studies, or did Critical Race Theory reject Critical Legal Studies? What was the first institutional expression of Critical Race Theory? Did Critical Race Theory reject Critical Legal Studies' deconstruction of liberalism, or embrace and build on it? When did Critical Race Theory become a movement? Who coined the term "Critical Race Theory" and what did the term mean? What philosophical currents does Critical Race Theory draw from? What distinguishes Critical Race Theory from from Critical Legal Studies? Can legal scholarship be neutral and objective? What is the goal of the Critical Race Theory movement? What are the key tenets of Critical Race Theory? Is race biologically real or is it socially constructed? Who are the faces at the bottom of the well? Who are the Space Traders? What are silent covenants? Is Critical Race Theory a noun or a verb? In one sentence, why did critical race theory began as a legal concept in the 1970s? How did you do? www.law.berkeley.edu/

Hello Charlie, thank you for your comment. With all respect and love to you, I'm not sure you understood the point of the sermon. Mankind is fallen, we have a sin problem that is why racism and even the thought of CRT would even be possible. Man can create all types of means to promote justice and equality, however, the truth of Christ and that we can all be one in Christ is the ONLY thing that will ever fix these issues. The gospel is the only answer to mankind's problems. We need our minds renewed and changed, which is what Christ does in us. When our minds are changed, and we start to see each other the way God sees us, racism simply ceases to exist. Without the hope of Christ, mankind will continually hate each other because they don't look to the One who is love, which is God. Now in regards to your comment, "As far as I'm concerned", we may be at an impasse. That statement is highly subjective and I could say that myself about anything. I actually have researched this topic a lot, being born in a place where racism is still a huge factor. I want to know all that I can to have a productive dialogue. I've listened to people from many ethnic backgrounds and perspectives on this issue and have spend hours watching debates and talks about CRT. Only two or three of the topics you listed above were ever brought up. Asserting your list is the standard by which we can, "have an intelligent opinion on the subject" may be true, but by what standard are you making that assumption? The big picture is what I'm going for, and that is, only Jesus Christ can fix our broken world. I'm open to discussion. Let me know what you think.

@@victoryassemblygothenburg4206 -- "I actually have researched this topic a lot." Did you learn what problem Derrick Bell and other legal scholars wrestled with during the 1970 and 80s that eventually led to the founding of the critical race theory movement? If not, I humbly and respectfully suggest you consider reading the following work by Derrick Bell: harvardlawreview.org/wp-content/uploads/1980/01/518-533_Online.pdf "I've spent hours watching debates and talks about CRT." Reading this work by two of the founders of the critical race theory movement might be a better use of your time: uniteyouthdublin.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/richard_delgado_jean_stefancic_critical_race_thbookfi-org-1.pdf "Only two or three of the topics you listed above were ever brought up." Stop listening to people talk about CRT and start learning from CRT theorists. Read the writings of CRT theorists and listen to recordings of them. Derrick Bell preaching to the Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit: www.c-span.org/video/?73311-1/gospel-choirs Derrick Bell talks about his book, “Faces at the Bottom of the Well, the Permanence of Racism.” He addresses discrimination against minorities, the civil rights movement in America, and the inevitability of racism in society: www.c-span.org/video/?34630-1/faces-bottom-well "Legitimizing Racial Discrimination through Antidiscrimination law: A Critcal Review of Supreme Court Doctrine", by Alan David Freeman (a key figure in the founding of the critical race theory movement): scholarship.law.umn.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1803&context=mlr This is what CRT theorists actually do. They write boring papers that few people, outside of the legal academy, care about: core.ac.uk/download/pdf/217207095.pdf "Jesus Christ can fix our broken world." Did Jesus Christ, the creator of all things, create the races (European, African, Asian, Oceanian and Native American), or is race a construct of human society? Thanks.

Progressive Christianity is a separate topic from homosexuality. You can be gay affirming without following a Progressive Christian edict and you can be a progressive Christian without affirming homosexuality.

Hello Frank, that is possible and I agree up to a point, but as a general rule, understood through research and talking with several people who self affirm as progressive, progressive people usually affirm homosexuality is compatible with Christianity. I have lived in three different states and know many people from completely different cultures and backgrounds and affirming the homosexual lifestyle is one of the things that is consistent. However, in my first message within this sermon series, I did explain the point you are making, (quote from my notes) "What is progressive christianity? That's a hard one! It's not a one-size-fits-all. Some believe in certain things while others don't accept others." However, after research and talking with others, this subject came up every time. Here is one site I used as a guide: www.bethelbeaverton.org/progressive-christianity. Here is a quote from that page, "Further, love of neighbor includes affirmation of the LBGTQ community, immigrants, people of other faith traditions and even those who are enemies." I told everyone my personal definition of progressive christianity is when people go beyond what the scripture says, they "progress" beyond what the text allows. I hope this brings clarity. I'm available to correspond more. Let me know what you think.

@@victoryassemblygothenburg4206 I didn't get a notification you even commented back to me. Now I wonder if anything you write me will get back to me at this point (I just happened to click back on here). THIS is not good. I'm very aware of progressive Christianity because I'm often accused of being one just because I'm gay affirming. The irony is I've written about the dangers of it, but still, the accusation of being one is thrown at me like mud constantly. I believe what I believe from a hermeneutic standpoint, nothing more. The Bible says what it says, or doesn't say, on homosexuality and that's it.

@@inYTbio_SiteLINKs2Verses_Bruv Hey Frank, for some reason I've been notified through email about three other people commenting but they will not show up on the comments section. I can see them in the email and the comment but I can't find them anywhere on my youtube page or even the account manager page, so that is weird. It could be more on my end but can't find the setting. I see what you're saying about being pooled into the "progressive" group without affirming everything. My most comparable story to that was when one AG pastor brings a snake on stage 20 years ago and then all AG people are snake handlers. Which I am not, nor have ever even seen. I've been asked about snake handling within this last year and I wonder where have they heard that from. If you have time, I would be interested in hearing your Hermeneutical standpoint for affirming homosexuality. I'm not the best communicator, nor do I have everything figured out, but I feel like the scripture is clear on this issue. My concern is the fact we each have an opposing view that directly contradicts each other. One of us is right and the other is wrong. If it was raising hands or not during worship, that would be different but the Bible seems to talk about this as being a sin. Sin differences need to be reconciled because this could be either accepting Christ as savior or being deceived, which the Bible says will happen.

It is the most unusual Good Friday service I've ever taken part of (because of the unusual nature of how we had to do this) but it was also the most meaningful because this current situation really causes us to draw back and think about why we believe what we believe! Thanks again to all who have viewed this and joined us tonight!
