Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys Good Old Rock N Roll
Переглядів 195 тис.15 років тому
Their only Top 40 hit. From their first album The Street Giveth and the Street Taketh Away. A personal note: my Biology professor at Tulane University, Bruce Fleury, used to play music at the beginning of every lecture and he was the one who initially introduced me to Cat Mother and also provided me with the mp3s of their music loaded here. I found out that he unexpectedly passed away in Januar...

Why We Love Spain

one of my friends telling why she loves spain why being a little bit tipsy
These guys were the inspiration to WOODSTOCK... but you would never know it! On the Glassco Turnpike on the boundaries of the village of Woodstock where they lived on a farm they produced 'The Soundouts" which were week-end long concerts held with camping on the farm. Michael Lang , the promoter of the 1969 Woodstock Festival attended the Soundouts and took the idea a giant step further. Richie Havens and Tim Buckly were regular performers at the Soundouts and made it to the Woodstock Festival stage, BUT NO CAT MOTHER !!!!! TRUE
Very cool! At 63 years old and a music geek I can say I never heard of them, but I like it
I definitely remember this song from the day. I recognize a bunch of the lyrics, but the sound is wrong. Did Cat Mother release another version or did somebody else release it?
bar fave.. you can stuff in as many tunes as you like..
Geez, man, this thing COOKS! That cymbal break right in the beginning tells you what's coming. Never lets up and will stay with you all day. Great post. Many thanks. PM
ALWAYS BRINGS BACK GOOD MEMORIES..firdt heard the song while sharing a bottle of Annie Green Springs..forget what flavor, but it didn't matter..glad to see a lot of oldsters here..we had the best music..and it all started on a little thing called a transistor radio. put 1 up to each ear and ya had stereo...lol wonder what the kids would say about that...thats all we had was AM mono radio back in those days...
I heard them perform this live when I was barely a teenager. 🙂
Saw them with Hendrix in Detroit on November 30, 1968, Cobo Hall.
Smokin !
I had their first album back in the 80's which I bought in a second hand store in their old records section but eventually traded it to a friend who liked the band and he gave me Wizards and Warriors by Uriah Heap.
This my kind of music. I had this tape recording on an open reel to reel Akai 1800 tape player when I was in Viet Nam. Yes. I was in the rear with the gear.
Saw them a number of times live at the Electric CircusNYC back in the days
EXCELLENT SONG, GREAT BAND.
Saw these guys live way back in 67 at the Electric Circus in Toronto. They were too good to play the venue, a bunch of stoned kids with dayglo flowers painted on their mugs...amazing show
😇😇😇😇🥰😍😍💘💝💖💗💓💞💕👍✌🤏🙏💅
KOCI brought me here.....
saw them at the Atlanta (Byron) pop festival -they were my favorite -even better than the Allman brothers /mountain -etc
This song is the story of my life. I just have to change one line: "I'm now passing 75 and if you want to make me come alive, all you gotta do is play me that good ol' rock & roll."
Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Medley ever!
I remember this, great tune.
I have just discovered these guys after searching 'Emperor Rosko' . . . Now that's some shit-kickin' music right there 🤩
As a teenager in June of '69, I kept hearing this song on my transister radio...something about it sounded familiar to me...I let my older sister hear it, and she said, "you dimwit, those are snippets of 1957 58 classic rock and roll songs!"... this song was one of the first to bring back the 50's rock and roll...I'll never forget, they booed Sha Na Na off the stage at Woodstock '69...America was not quite ready to bring back that raunchy '50's rock n roll in 1969 !
They didn't boo them off, they loved Sha na na. You're watching the wrong movie 😅
Meine Fresse! Wer hat den diesen Song ausgegraben? Einfach Klasse. Da hatten wir damals noch richtig Feuer unterm Arsch.
I saw these guys around 1970 on Johnny Carson. No idea how they got there, as he rarely booked rock bands unless they were very big names, and even then only the likes of Elton John or Three Dog Night.
wow i wanna DANCE....
Great 👍
Whatta..classic tune..
Produced by Jimi Hendrix
Wow forgot this existed, great party song, thems was them daze! lols
Covered by British band 'The Dave Clark Five' 1969
Saw them give a free concert in Central Park NY in 1970 at an antiwar demonstration. Blast from the past
Thanks Shaun for the link on twitter!! Great memory! ~Chris🌷
Jimi Hendrix co-produced Cat Mother's first album, this being the hit song.
I worked on Mike's jeep 😄😄
I was still in high school when this came out and was just starting to develop my taste for rock'n'roll, thanks to Creedence and songs like "Travelin' Band." "Good old rock'n'roll" became one of my faves.
I knew I’d like this band as soon as I saw the photo.🔥 🎶
Dave Clark Five does a great version of this track, too. I think Mike Smith was one of the best 60's rock & roll singers
Filmore West opening for Beautiful Day. 1969
I learned to play drums by playing along to singles in my parents' basement. This song was played a LOT!
saw them play at the Electric Circus when I worked there in '67-'68
STILL ROCKS!!!
Just found this LP out in the wild! www.MacBangerMusic.com Find us on Discogs!
I saw this album on CD in a store in the 90's & I'm sort of kicking myself for not getting it because I haven't seen it anywhere since.
GREAT tune! No wonder Hendrix picked them for his opening act.
He also produced their album; the only time he produced anyone.
Yawn
From the, "Where are they now department"- The guitarist in this group, Larry Packer, has been playing fiddle in my Irish band, Hair Of The Dog, since 1993. www.rickbedrosian.com
and a few of them r here on the mendocino coast
Saw them @ Newport jazz fest 69, and first u.s. show led zepplin. ..
Saw them opening for Jimi Hendrix in Seattle (my home town and Jimi's) at Sick's Stadium in the rain, his last concert in the continental US. 7/26/70
Were they from Seattle, too? I just read about them opening for It's a Beautiful Day, also from Seattle.
@@Krabadaque Both bands were from California Bay Area, but Jimi was definitely a home-grown Seattle cat.
I went to that show too. Not ideal setting, eh? I thought he had Cactus but I don't remember Cat Mother... Saw them with Jimi at "Second Annual Northern California Folk Rock Festival" (bit long on the title..) at Santa Clara fair grounds late May 69
@@lauranceemory4448 Yeah, an open-air stadium in Seattle. Always risky.
@@KrabadaqueCat Mother was from the New York area when they recorded this first album. Then went out west for their second, Albion Doowah. Albion is a small town in Northern California. I took a day trip there about 15 years ago when I was traveling through the area, just to see what I could see. Met an old guy at the local store who told me lots of great Cat Mother stories.
GREAT old tune.
Hit the Top 40 on 6/28/69 Peaked at No. 21, 8 Weeks on the Chart!
RDK860 played the shit out of this single
