Thom, Check out Iowa Scaled Engineering for 3-d printed grain bins. I have 3. they come in sections and you can build them as tall as you want. I have also assembled RIX grain bins. You can make them bigger by carefully bending them flatter or smaller, by bending them the other way. A hair dryer may help with the bending by softening the plastic. Don't use a heat gun 😞. Using plastic pipe and laminating stuff to the outside is also a good way to shape a silo. Seems to me that you could take some Evergreen standing seam roofing of the appropriate seam width and cut strips the right height, laminate them to the right diameter plastic pipe, putting a strip of styrene 0.010"x 0.060" styrene strip on edge around the top of each strip to give you the horizontal seams and then add the vertical seams using the standing ribs that come with the roofing, cut lengthwise to match the width of the strips, and gluing them into the slots in the roofing strips. Boy was that wordy 🙂, fiddly too. From your opening photo one of the silos looks like it's 2 sections higher than the other 2. 10' high by 5' wide looks about right. That would make each section 3/4" tall by 3/8" wide. The tall silo has 10 sections and the other 2 have 8 sections. That would make the tall one 100' high and the other two 80' high. Does that sound about right? Going be an interesting build. I look forward to the next update. Stay safe. Fred

@@fredgemmill617 Hi Fred. Your standing seam roofing idea sounds very difficult. Still, a package of that is pretty inexpensive to play with and I still have some PVC, so maybe I’ll give it a shot. What I’m doing will be more true than the metal silos but still not accurate. Thanks for the tip on Iowa Scaled Engineering. Leave it to Iowa to make accurate models of grain elevators! I will check them out. Good Saturday Morning Thom, Here in Western Pennsylvania we got 3 inches of snow over night. We have light flurries now, so hopefully the storm has for the most part passed us by. I feel the same way Thom, we grew up in an era when a train wasn't considered a train until it had a caboose. Second for me personally graffiti is vandalism, you're painting whatever on someone else's property. I've heard some people try to justify graffiti by saying things like if the railroad cared, they stop folks from doing it or they've repaint the equipment. The railroads and shippers who own freight cars cannot watch every piece of equipment they own and secondly, to repaint every piece of rolling stock that has graffiti on it would be an enormous cost. Then add on top of that the down time of that piece of equipment, while it's being repainted. As for your question Thom, I would not change a thing. The only thing I ask is try to keep the videos around 15 minutes. I follow one modeler here on UA-cam and he does some fantastic modeling, but his videos are always 30 minutes or longer and sometimes it takes me a couple of days to finish his videos because of the limited time I have available for watching videos. As a follow up to your melanoma comment, my dad also had melanoma issues and visited his dermatologist yearly. His melanoma was mostly because of his R/C Airplane hobby and not wearing a hat with a brim when he was younger. But something I'd also like to mention, guys if you're over 50, get a colonoscopy. My dad and I both grow polyps and these polyps can turn cancerous. Believe me, I have to be checked every 5 years and the worst part of the procedure is the prep. While they are doing the procedure you're out cold and not feeling anything. Sadly polyps or melanoma did not get my dad, Biliary cancer, also known as cholangiocarcinoma sadly took him in 2021. So guys, don't be afraid to visit your PCP on a regular basis, early detection can save your life. Cheers, Rich S.

@@RWSBaden Good morning, Rich. Thank you for your tips on taking care of yourself. I have had colonoscopies at 50 and 60 and another small check a couple of years ago when I found blood in my stool. Turns out I have internal hemorrhoids that don’t hurt at all but occasionally will bleed. Taking fiber every day has helped a lot but still occasionally have a day or 2 of bleeding. My Dad and brother both have had prostate cancer so I’m aware of what’s going on down there. Thanks for your feedback on my operations and length of videos. I feel the same about long videos, so I will try to keep it short. Snow is over ( we got 2-3” yesterday) and may touch 40 tomorrow before dipping back down for a couple of cold days. Next weekend may actually have back to back 40+ days so we’ll get a lot of melting then. Don’t work too hard and stay safe!

    • @thomplacier677

@@dennistatro2375 Good morning, Dennis. That represents the ‘boneyard’ tracks in Chillicothe. The car shops in Chillicothe reworked and repaired/repainted cars and also scrapped cars. There were a dozen or so weed/choked tracks there filled with old B&O equipment, including cabooses. For me, it’s just a scenic element and was never intended to be operable. That was the last piece of flex track that I had. I didn’t want to actually cut a switch into the mainline for a track that wouldn’t operate, so I just left it as is. If I can scrounge up another piece of track, I may extend it and curve it so it looks like it connected to the main. When CSX abandoned the yard, the Ohio Railway Museum did consider moving there but it never happened obviously. Thanks for watching and your question. Have a great weekend and stay safe!

Good morning Thom, First in today (and I like seeing the intro again!) Regarding your question, I personally thoroughly enjoy your session progression, and everything you currently do regarding operations. You are correct, you are probably the only UA-camr I know that does it that way, making it your niche. I wouldn’t change a thing. But then again I’m on the oldie moldy….😂 We finally received about 3 inches of snow yesterday with days in the 20s and nights in the teens so typical January weather here. I’m deep into completing the finish details of my trolley poles for my Shops area and hope to start stringing catenary next weekend. Glad everything went well at the dermatologist and thank you for your suggestion. Enjoy your weekend and stay safe . Scott

Great map you've got there. The old Southern line just barely exists along the East side of town. I've explored it lots with an old friend and it's quite a nice sight to see in the Spring. Unfortunately, a little past Turpins 64 Garage, it starts to fade into the ground, getting buried. I know just South of the public pool, where the small creek and sidewalk is, is where the track should've been. I've got no clue if the track is just buried underneath, or if it's been torn out. One of the teachers at our High School is a part of the town board, they say they plan to rip out the remaining track that exists and turn it into a trail.
