We designed an adult gap year to travel the world with our 4 yr old daughter.
In July 2023, we quit our 6 figure 9-5 jobs, SOLD most of our stuff & bought a 1-WAY ticket to SLOW TRAVEL with our little one while chasing our personal freedom.
Here on UA-cam, we are documenting our journey as we build our freedom based business while travelling.
We are saying NO to the usual 'template of life' and saying YES to AMAZING EXPERIENCES.
Thanks for being part of our adventure.
Love,
Nabeel, Zenesta & Yara.

KL has better Air quality & low noise pollution as compare to Bangkok, Jakarta & Ho Chin Minh City.
Totally agree!
Thank you 🙏
Every city is charming including Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei, Singapore and Timor. We are ASEAN, always welcome everyone from Thailand.
🙏
I am writing this comment without viewing this video but only the titles. People who come for money just look into the matter how much they could save. But people who want to live peacefully just look into the factors like crime rate, clean air, pollution free environment, affordability along with good neighbours with helpfulness. Comparison is better, but decide which country do you call it your home and settle in that country at the earliest. If you try to migrate there when you get older then things could have changed a lot against your perception
May be watch the video 🙂
I moved to Middle East in Sept 2024 after 10 years in Australia with the largest company here and in top 5 percentile in terms of income. We as a couple agree with most points presented here and are finding the move refreshing.
Awesome... well done on the move! 👏
I thought your comments were all fair. I like that you have a house - you can come back to oz. Or you can build on this. You have lived in Australia for 15 years and I think your idea of exploring the world is commendable. (I do hope you eventually come back!)
Thank you so much! It's brave to agree with this, which is not the common theme here
I live in Canada. Almost everything you mentioned applies here as well, and almost everyone I meet here talks about the same things, although with some exaggeration not to mention the media exaggeration. I visited Australia twice, and considering moving there next year. Though I understand there are more similarities than differences between Australia and Canada, my wife and I are simply more attracted to Australia's weather and lifestyle. You are obviously capable to decide what you see is best for you, and if in the event that you decide (again) that Australia is where you'd want to be, absolutely nothing wrong with that! We're always learning and evolving, let alone our circumstances change. Best of luck with your travels! Don't bother about the crappy comments here, they're the ones giving out negative energy, not you. For one, there is always that line that new/foreign born Australians have to sometimes deal with.
Thank you so much... such an amazing comment to wake up too... we wish u all the best too!
Singaporean left this chat..
Intentionally
This is the best country in the world, I used to think otherwise growing up but the more I travel the more I realise just how great Australia is, boring yes, but great 👍 get in a plane and go on holiday once a year but I wouldn’t live anywhere else
Fair enough
Tbh, as Indonesian living in Jakarta, KL is a better option to live. Even if i have to choose a between any capital in SEA, KL is the most reasonable. Singapore absolutely have the best for living but too expensive. KL is cheaper than Singapore but still have a good quality for living. But if i have to choose between KL and other area in Indonesia, i will absolutely choose other area in Indonesia. Still love my country the most 😊.
Totally understand
it will never be Singapore! 😂
Yeah intentionally left out singapore as it's more comparable to a western country
@tinydetour I know, we’re unaffordable for most people except the rich! 😓
Saigon is good only because from there you can go to all the beautiful places of Southern Vietnam. Other than that, KL beats Saigon in everything, even AFFORDABLITY.
Fair enough. Yeah value for money KL is great. We actually liked saigon a lot too
Jakarta is the best not just in South East Asia but in the planet. No doubt about it. The city and the country have evrything. Much better thousand times than KL, Malaysia , Bangkok or Hanoi. Ask Indonesians.
Tell us more... why?
Jakarta is only develop along Jalan Janderal Sudirman... other places are slum areas... That's why tourists like to go to Bali and not Jakarta...
Average Malay's only type of behaviour. Always jealous and assume they are better than others.
Thailand = ❤✅ Vietnam = ❤✅ Indonesia = ❤✅ Malaysia = ❌😂😢😮😅😊
How come?
@@tinydetourThis is comment from Indonesian who is always jealous of Malaysia...
@@tinydetour Indonesians can't accept/face the fact that although they gained independence 12 years earlier, they are still lagging far behind malaysia in terms of education, healthcare, infrastructure and a lot more!
Aduh, kamu telah pamer hati busuk kamu terhadap malaysia. Lebih memalukan kamu juga pamer betapa rendah IQ&SDM kamu. Tapi orang seperti kamu memang jenis yang goblok, bodoh tapi sombong.
Bangkok is the best guy.

International schools in Malaysia are not for foreigners only. Lots of Malaysians send their children there. It's like 50:50 locals vs foreigners population. My son spent all his schooling years in international schools beginning pre-school IB up to MYP4 but switched to IGCSE at year 10 and we are 🇲🇾ns.
Yeah ofcourse, there is a local population. But when we visited the premium international schools most of them had 70% as expat kids. Which school did you child go to? May be we will check it out too 🙂
Actually you could have cheaper accommodation in the Ampang/wangsa maju/Melawati area.... There are 4 or 5 international schools in and around the area.... Ie. BRAINYBUNCH, CIC, FAIRVIEW, SAYFOL, ISKL, KYS KL EAST... The rent should be around Aud950+ for a 1200sqft 3 bedroom condo
Ah that's good to hear.. thanks for the tip 👍 do you live around that area
@tinydetour I live near KL east, in a district called gombak, selangor... Melawati is also in this district, though we are not in the same municipal council... A bit confusing there... While wangsa maju area is just next to me is under federal territory.... But here your neighbours would be locals mostly, but you are close to embassy row with many expats....
Typical immigrant beggars complaining after their stomach is full.
Becareful if you hv maids. They can steal items in the house. Fast and furious thieves
Yeah ...thankfully ours was very good
@tinydetour indonesian maids are common in malaysia. Missing items are cash, rings, coins. Happened many times to my mother. Sometimes they pour clothes into toilet, so it get stuck.
Different countries, different taste or experience.
💯
instead of comparing, better to embrace, cherish, and respect every elements in each country....as such, you could live 6 months or one year in each country, then move to another...enjoy the diversifications and building network with the local people...
Totally understand, but who is complaining?
@@tinydetourranking is not comparing?
@@GajahMengaumTheBrucecome on, its ok. Its just merely a personal opinion. If we opem our doors to othes, then we shd be open to both praise n criticisms. No big deal. Were not perfect

Great video. Very relatable and informative. The 4-5000 dollar monthly costs seem quite how. Either your living the high life or prices have gone up significantly in SE.
It's Australian dollars. But yes it's a bit higher for us since we send our daughter to international preschools and they are quite expensive, and also prices have gone up worldwide
Hope that you guys are having a good time and a pleasant stay in KL, Malaysia.
💯 thank you
@tinydetour 😁
Hopefully more follow you, we never asked you to come.
Yeah but your govt did and you voted for those governments. I
Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam is the best city especially for foreigners 😊
Yeah it's quite good. U been?
@tinydetour yes I have been there
I would say Ho Chi Minh is great for travel holidays. But when it comes to living long term, the top city in Southeast Asia would be Kuala Lumpur in terms of cost and modernity and benefits. Cheers from an American 😊
Cheers mate. Couldn't agree more
Yes, I've been to both Ho Chi Minh and Jakarta. They are fantastic cities, but I need to be extra mindful of safety.
Lovely😊
Thank you
You would love sri lanka ?
We would love to visit. Any recommendations for places? We would prefer to stay for 2-3 months, ideally somewhere where there are good English schools
I think we are both unique in our own ways. Where you want to settle down is based on your priorities. I am Malaysian & I do think Indonesia is a great place minus the earth quakes.
💯
My God no wonder you guys couldn't take Australia. I've got plenty of ethnic mates who are the absolute opposite of the both of you, I respect your want to have an opinion but quite honestly just shows your true selves - there's so many things I can say in rebuttal to the things you say, most importantly in relation to how beautiful this country is and how much there is to see, why would I want to travel overseas and explore another country when this country offers SO much beauty. You just tore down a country that gave you so much and you took all of that for granted. Enjoy your gap year hopefully you find a muchhh better place to live :)
I respect your opinion but here is where we fundamentally differ. You feel Australia is the best and there is no need to explore, we feel like the world has a lot to offer and we have only 1 life, so better make use of it
It's a matter of perspective. We felt the amount if time we lived in each of these cities were good enough to have a comparison
@tinydetour it's ok if you want to compare my Malaysia country to Indonesia country but i only want to ask you One questions dd you two have visit Malaysia and Indonesia international school education before you want to give your opinion about Malaysia and Indonesia education
Thanks for sharing this. I agree that Australia is painfully unaffordable. There is more to it than that, but the leadership doesn't want to understand that people's lives are like living in a chicken coop.
💯
Nice 👍
🙂
I agree with the issues, however I am Australian born and have benefited way more than anyone could imagine. For us the healthcare system has been a huge boon. Our child also benefits more from inclusive learning environment. Having a car is a real freedom to me. We moved back from South east Asia and at the moment Australia is a better fit. Hard to find a perfect place on earth. Financially we were drained by Singapore due to things that would be payed for by tax dollars in Australia. So it all balances out.
Fair enough... at the end of the day, live where it fits best for you :) So you lived in Singapore for a while? What were some of the pros and cons?
@ the food was amazing, we have a lot of friends there so socially it was good. Cons were the cost of international school, my son has some additional learning needs so it was so hard to get him admission to a school that he would prefer to be in. Plus the cost was huge, we didn’t have a car I wasn’t working at the time. We have additional health care costs for rare conditions that weren’t covered by insurance and lots of out of pocket expenses for these things. I think our son is happier in Australia. My career was more established here and my husband still works for a Singaporean company. We also had tough choices to make with visas since he is a PR to really make it work we thought better we all become PR or go back to Aus. I’m also quite tall and more of an Aussie build, I found clothes shopping more difficult as a female. Easier to get the sizes and styles I like in Aus.
I left australia because of I feel abdunt from my religion culture and society.the white people they don't respect us,they just act as kind but not in reality.
* Over regulation of the labor market and economy * Over encroachment of the role of government in everyday life * Court system that is ineffective and is absolutely no deterrent to crime * Artificially inflated property prices due to over regulation and inefficient tax policy * Lack of cultural identity without any binding document to define "Aussie culture". * Taxes are high and fines everywhere and practically unavoidable. 3rd generation Australia, at least I have been able to travel to see for myself we're not the "lucky country".
thank you for speaking the truth, esp. being a native..
Seems like you are just being polite to give some of those points to Jakarta hahaha. Jakarta really can’t compare with KL to be honest. Sorry 😅
hehe.... nah we really shared our honest experience
I planned to emigrate into Perth, Australia. Before emigrating it, My parents with me were going to visit in Perth for 5 days. A good friend of my father guided us to somewhere in Perth and told us everything about Australia. We surprised to hear that people in Australis face many issues about cost of living, many rules and etc... My father told me not to emigrate in Australia because it is difficult for me to make a living...
I see ..... I mean, if you are new to the country and interested in making a life, Aus and USA still provides the best option. But once you are achieved your goals (e.g. education, passport, house, job experience, some investments etc) then the taxes and cost of living can become an issue - i.e. you might be able to get the better options elsewhere, esp, in SE Asia.
Jakarta so dirty
Indonesia is raw Malaysia is becoming Digital , so pick ur pick :)
:)
Your reasons are not unique at all, I've been a UAE resident for all my life and all of the non-issues you mentioned are present in any country that you intend to make it. We submit to strict rules, travel a 100kms to work, and what not but still doing alright. We have so many friends and family in Aus and not one has complained of any the factors you mentioned. This video and the video title is very demeaning to Australia.
Why so sensitive bro?
The traffic in KL is crazy for a city of it's size but the traffic in Jakarta is a whole other world of pain. Some claim that Surabaya is even worse, but that is difficult to imagine - I naively thought that Bangkok had the worst traffic in Southeast Asia until I landed in Jakarta.
Trust me, we felt the same when in Jakarta! Bkk traffic seemed great in comparison haha
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching :)

not sure what you mean?
As a Canadian who’s lived here his whole life I can truly say that the last 3 years crime, illegal immigration and hyper inflation as taken over the country. The other as aspect is that the rest of the world has caught up at a faster rate and the so called 3rd world countries are now “developing countries” which are becoming more and more livable. That being said, I find Canada still has a lot of positives and if you offer the opportunity to move here permanently, 9 out of 10 would jump on it.
Yeah understand where you are coming from. I suppose once you have ticked all the boxes, including getting the passport, then your options open up - where you can live a better quality of life elsewhere. We just visited Canada for 2 months recently and our family members there were talking along similar lines to you
