Hi there, I have three lemon trees in the back covered with the black ones, other than hand picking, how can I get rid of them? I just want to put my xmas lights on them but im scared of the bugs lol, I have a two year old and newborn so im scared to poison them? Please help
All you can do at this time of year, that is pesticide free, is vacuum them off with an old vacuum. Yates says this product works (I'll add the link below) but I haven't tried this so I don't know how effective it is. Bronze orange bug are hard to kill with sprays because the adults have a tough exoskeleton at this time of year. In winter, they are soft so the oil spray works then. If you try the spray, could you let me know if it works. www.yates.com.au/yates-750ml-natures-way-citrus-ornamental-spray/ Good luck.
Mine have gone yellow. What is wrong with them??
It could be a few issues. Plants can go yellow with lack of or Less often too much fertiliser, lack of or too much water, Age of plant, damage to the main stem. Hope you can work out what's wrong. Good luck.
There was this stuff called confidor but they stopped making it cause it was no good for the bees.
Confidor is a brand name. The active ingredient is Imidacloprid. You can still buy products with Imidacloprid. Bunnings did stop selling products containing Imidacloprid but you can still buy it elsewhere. When we look at control of pests in the industry, we like to use IPM ( integrated pest management) strategies. This is about using the most effective and lowest impact combination of strategies to control crop pests. That's why I just use the oil in winter method. Hope that helps. Happy gardening. Trish.
Do you have tips for a very stuck root bound plant in a terracotta pot?
I'll try and make another video about that in a few weeks.
I have one, but it's slow to grow.
Yes agree. They are slow growing. :)
Hi, so what would you do about them? how do you get rid of them/ prevent them from returning? Thx! 😅
They are hard to control because thrips are resistant to sprays. Here's an excerpt from a rose growers website. . Treloars. Treatment The first thing to try is your hose - they hate water. If a small infestation or you have just noticed the signs then spraying the rose plant with water from your hose discourages them from settling and they will soon move on. Remember to spray both under and over the leaves. Cut off all badly affected blooms. Encourage natural predators such as: bugs, ladybirds, lacewing larvae, mites and predatory thrips. Remove weeds to reduce breeding sites. Try using a garlic or chilli spray. Take two teaspoons of crushed garlic or chilli and put into 500mls of water. Let this sit for a couple of days so the water is very potent. Strain and spray onto the plants. Although this home remedy is highly effective it will need to be repeated each week for a couple of weeks or after it has rained. It may be necessary to spray roses with an insecticide or Eco Oil. Remember that the thrip also lay eggs on the plant and a repeat spray may be necessary a couple of weeks after the first. Please use chemicals sparingly as they also kill the good insects and natural predators as well as the one you are trying to get rid of - always look for a natural alternative before using chemicals! Thrip have a short life cycle, having many gererations in one year. Therefore the chemical sprays on the market are a bit of a hit and miss as thrip become very resistant to most chemical sprays. Remember that whatever treatment you decide on will have to be re-applied in a couple of weeks when the eggs laid by the first infestation hatch. For a long term solution try companion planting your roses with Lavender, Garlic, Chilli, chives or marigolds. This will help to protect your roses from future attacks.
Mine is in a Terra container 😢
That makes it harder because the roots sometimes attach to the terracotta. I will make another video for this. It will be a while off though. Maybe a couple of months.
Magnificent specimen!! Thanking for showing and sharing your most beautiful amaryllis. Have a gorgeous day. Kind regards.

Hi Trish, I have a tricolor plant that has put on a lot of new growth these past few weeks of Sprint, but all the growth is bright green, instead of the white and pink. Do you know why this might be happening? It gets about half a day of sun, and had white leaves last year, but not this year. Thanks Zac
Yes. If it's new growth it is offensive green when new then turns variegated.
Hi 👋🏽 i recently received a cane begonia and i have no idea where to place it? Direct light? Or like in a porch?
Indirect bright light. Usually best outside. Inside in winter if they are frosty.
Soo helpful thank you
You're welcome
Very beautiful. I can almost smell the garden from here 😊
Just pretend your a kangaroo 😊
:)
Thank you for the video. I was interested in purchasing the New Zealand tea tree because of its beautiful back trunk that twists at the base and it’s very ornamental looking. Can you share any information on the New Zealand tea tree?
Leptospermum scoparium. Nice tree. Yes. Same pruning method. Minimal pruning needed. You'll need to keep an eye out for webbing caterpillar. It's a pest on all tea trees.
Thank you I’m just moving in up at New South Wales ILUKA and I wanted to put something in my yard that was natural and I love the New Zealand tea tree because of its beautiful trunk structure and folding limbs. I can do a shade garden virtually underneath thanks again again for your response.
Are you using composting or normal worms?
Garden worms. The ones that normally sneak into pots.
Thank you
You're welcome
Wonderful plants and lovely flowers. 👍😃💚
Does it not have thorns? You used bare hands. 😊
No thorns
So would frost cause this issues as well? I’m in the Riverina nsw
Yes. The whole bush goes yellow with frost. Murraya are not frost tolerant and can even die. If you have it in a protected position that is protected from frost, in the Riverina it would still probably turn yellow because of the cold. Some people in cold areas choose to grow Choisya ternata instead of Murraya because it's very similar though the letter doesn't like full sun and is more susceptible to bugs. In saying that try to feed your Murraya in Spring and Autumn to prevent going so yellow in winter.
@@trishrestante3865 thanks so much , my plumbago is looking similar I dare say it’s the issue
Does the pot have to have holes in the bottom?
Yes, so the water can drain. Roots breathe air so unless the plant is a water plant it needs drainage holes. :)
Hi Trish thanks so much for this great video! Mine has developed a black mould on some of the branches - would you recommend pruning those off completely?
Do you mean sooty mould? If so that's an indication there's a sucking insect about. Look over your shrub and treat with a Horticultural oil spray. Sometimes, the sooty mould can be dropping from an infected tree above. But yes, prune off the worst branches. The sooty mould will eventually flake off. If it's not sooty mould though, you will need to identify what it is before treating. When spraying with oil, make sure it's not going to do further damage. Spray a test section initially. Good luck
What type of soil to plant Trish ,good video 🎉
@@rosslynmajormajor6837 Eremophilia will grow in many soil types. Just make sure the soil is well drained.
My mother has a light pink that has been trimmed into a ball for years. I cleaned out the center and have been trying to make sense of it. You've really helped me get some idea of what should be done. Thanks from California

Oh wow..I have no idea that they can grow into bushes or trees. Great tips.
Straightforward and to the point. Thanks
You're welcome:)
Hi Trish. I thought you'd like to know that all parts I thought were dead are now showing the beginnings new growth. I know it will probably take quite some time to grow back to what it used to look like, but I'm more than thrilled to see that it's alive. I have a further question: There appears to be a couple of pale surface roots on top of the soil. Is this normal? If so, should I leave them or cover them with some soil? I can't thank you enough for your help.
It's not unusual for clivia to have roots above the surface. You can cover them with soil or chip mulch as long as the base of the plant isn't getting too buried. You can also not worry about them and do nothing. Make sure you give the plant some fertiliser in spring and some seaweed extract or gogo juice now. Keep in mind clivia are light feeders so don't overfeed. Thanks for watching. :)
I just put a tonne of worms in my D Austen roses. I am going to take it out now.

I'm having an issue with a mandevilla plant. May I email you a photo? If so, to what email? Thanks
trishrestante@gmail.com
You said that you took the worms out - how did you do that?
Hi Because it was a small pot the worms were easy to find. They were big earthworms. If it was a bigger pot, depending on what plant you have, you can let the potting mix dry out, the worms don't like that and will escape out of the pot. Or you can soak the pot and the worms will travel up to the top then you can remove them.
@@trishrestante3865 Thanks for that.

Glad you're happy. Yes, it's a treasure. :)
What should I do I this caused transplant shock for my hibiscus tree 😢
The plant can suffer if the soil is too wet or too dry or there's another problem. Make sure the soil is not too wet or dry and the plant is in good health. It can be too wet when the drainage holes are blocked by roots. It can be too dry when the potting mix is hydrophobic or the plant hasn't had enough water. Soak with seaweed extract. This will encourage new roots to grow. Don't prune the top until it's recovered. Good luck
@@trishrestante3865 wow thank you so much for replying. I’ve been losing sleep over my dying plants. I bought 4 trees from Sam’s club and this is happening to all of them. They’re all drying out and dying. Thank you so much for your suggestions and help
