5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe on The Christmas White Rose (04/12/2024)
Only a short clip as wasn't planning on filming but the lighting and sounds were so good that I thought I'd test out my new phone. Seen at Ulleskelf accelerating from Church Fenton towards York.

Fastest climb to Goathland ever?
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
Blistering run on the late running 17:15 with 9F 92134 up the 1 in 49 from Grosmont to Goathland today at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Autumn Steam Gala. Unfortunately my phone doesn't do the sounds justice, they were phenomenal. If anyone has lineside footage of this run, feel free to link in comments.

Or so we thought...It was a big surprise to hear the unmistakeable sound of a Bulleid whistle and see SR Rebuilt West Country 34046 'Braunton' at Burlescombe on the return of The Torbay Express. Apparently, 5029 was found to have leaking stays the day before. Shame. (01/09/13)

Now this is a bit more like it, proper engine with a good whistle and actually going fast! ua-cam.com/video/nTo7TjFsHjM/v-deo.htmlsi=9Xblr8Mnf_NcUAVQ
Great shot, shame it’s just a clunky old gwr engine instead of something special.
Cauldon Low, not Lowe.
Right up your street!
When these fine locos used to take 12 loaded coaches over the S&D unaided, you know how powerful they are. Could tag another 3 on this run up Goathland and wouldn't make that much difference. Awesome performance from loco and crew.
Nice sounds from ‘Oddball Manners’!
‘Nunney Castle’ my arse! 😆
Fabulous train, we had a trip on this but hauled by ‘Tornado’. Those Pullman cars are beautiful. Top tip: marry a rich woman who will take you on it!
Hoofing it! (Shame about the WCRC leaking drain cocks, their trademark.)
Sounding good!
From the same era: ua-cam.com/video/BoeZQKVuwA4/v-deo.html
Check your roster for ‘Steam Gala 2021’…we guessed correctly! (G5)
When you have seen a 9F lift off a 2000ton stone train you understand just how much power they have.
That’s certainly giving it the beans. Didn’t sound to be struggling either.
Struggling 😂
wow love the 9F such power
Wow amazing👍
Finally found some lineside footage, you can hear the "opening up" at the end of the clip that lasted until Goathland: ua-cam.com/video/2WPtdMyHAa4/v-deo.html
I think this as well: ua-cam.com/video/7bTiqwZicg0/v-deo.html
Wow! Thats a 9f in its glory with 7 coaches behind her on the 1in49
Great footage. That climb is meat n drink for a 9f with a light load. They used to drag iron ore between Tyne Dock and Consett steelworks it was a climb all the way.
Must be that 9F they got now thats about the only British loco that does gradients so easily.
Fantastic! What a great sound.
That was about 25mph... the small wheels of the 9F always make them sound faster. Although, to be fair I don't think most trains climb at full line speed, I think the timetable leave slack for any 'issues' experienced!!!
All other trains I’ve seen in this location were slogging The 9F is hammering the climb
@@Jaidencharlotte agreed. She’s doing more than 25mph. Point taken on wheel diameter but I estimate that to be between 30-35mph. Kept quiet no doubt due to regs for preserved railway speed limits on passenger trains. I believe freight demonstration trains are allowed to travel at a max of 40mph…. I assume because there aren’t any public on board. Either way, brilliant video and a rare chance to travel behind BR’s last giant at speed. Nice work!
It was faster than 25, but won't be saying by how much 😉
Cant go faster than 25mph anyway
can if required, the limit is from ancient history and needs to be updated
@@vikingsmb well they are limited to 25 on heritage lines put it that way
You've never been to the East Lancs or Great Central then!
Can't go faster than 70 on a motorway to.... but
@@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRf been to both, but work on the NYMR so know what the drivers are limited to.
I was on that 😂
Piece of cake for a 9F :)
Quicker than the climb I went on where the loco was really struggling, it seemed like there was a brake stuck on or something but the sound of the loco under heavy load was amazing 😀😃
Which there was alot more of the Super D on youtube than there is. Love the sound of that joy valve chuffing
The Shuffleman makes some very good videos
Wow jolly good love that night shot mate !👍👍👍👍
Awesome video mate thanks for sticking it out in the rain!
Great video mate nothing like riding behind steam videos theyre the best!👍 Its only ashame UA-cam took 8 years to put this on my fyp.....smh. thanks for sharing it!
We can put 6 behind her fully loaded on 1 in 60 banks and she flattens them, sadly she now needs an overhaul!
Don't know this line, but thinking back to the steam times, by the sound n smoke the engine was worked very well by engine men, however It was hardly a load at five coaches.
Five may not sound much, but on a 1 in 40 climb, it's an effort.
Black Fives were always amazing, the best all rounder that was ever made and there was hundreds of them built for LMS.
Fireman must have been shovelling alot! Which railway is this on?
He wasn't shovelling here, he was hanging out of the cab!
Churnet Valley Railway, Staffordshire

Very nice shot there. That was me standing on the other side. All those guys on the ballast were trespassing - had I said something though they wouldn't have taken a blind bit of notice.
Cracking departure at 4mins too. What has happened we have gone from boring preserved driving to the Enthusiast weekend stye in the late 80's early 90's. Marvellous.
Christ @ 1.30 well done driver and fireman. Would have loved to have been on that!
Nice shots.... great sound track at the end with the bark of the exhaust disappearing into the distance and a whistle to die for - whoever was on that whistle was a real artist! …☁☁☁⁘⁙☁☁⁙..☁……Hᴜɢʜ….Lɪᴋᴇᴅ…..ツ
One of the best sounds in the world!!!!
Good old Super D, would breeze it up the 1 in 60! Was designed for pulling 1000 ton freight trains
Good shot at Shustoke, I was filming the other side of the bridge at Shustoke
Great shots.... loved your vid and love those shrieking Panniers..…☁☁☁⁘⁙☁☁⁙..☁……Hᴜɢʜ….Lɪᴋᴇᴅ…..ツ
Fantastic shot

Pity about those on the wrong side of the fence......A friend who was on the train took photos of those involved and will be sending them to BPT.
Great shot at speed..... the kids and the border collie loved it…☁☁☁⁘⁙☁☁⁙..☁……Hᴜɢʜ….TU…..ツ
The speedometer was indeed a calibrated instrument.
I think the speed limit is 25 there, no need to show off ;-)
If only you knew what you were talking about Wylie.
