Ahead is an innovation studio. Our mission is to imagine and create novel technologies that look into the future and that ultimately enable a healthier planet and enrich people’s lives.
We are a mix of creative thinkers, artists, engineers, scientists. We combine our knowledge and experiences to turn ideas into tangible products. Some ideas rest with us, hidden in our drawers, whiteboards and attics, others become public knowledge.
We started our journey as a creative engineering consultancy studio solving vision and image processing challenges for the industrial and the film & entertainment industries.
We are best known for Cezanne, a state-of-the-art image visualization software for the creatives. We are the maker of Stella, the first Canadian quadruped robot.
On this channel we share robotics, software ideas and discoveries and team updates.

#3dprinting TPU 💡 How we handled STELLA’s Handle? 🖨️🤖🐾 #shorts #robot
𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗣𝗨 can be tricky, and finding the perfect print orientation can feel like a puzzle.
So how did we optimized STELLA’s Handle for 3D printing Fiberlogy Fiberflex? 🖨️🤖🐾
First, we tried the default orientation - too much support was needed.
Next, the upside-down approach - less support, but it risked a failure due to splitting along the layer lines.
Then sideways - it solved the splitting issue, but again, too much support and an ugly base surface. 🧩
𝗦𝗼, 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀? By thinking outside the box!
We print the handle flat, then fold it into its final form with a satisfying snap. Secured with just two screws, it's both efficient and aesthetically pleasing!

With pain-free battery swapping in mind, we've been through several iterations to design a lock-eject feature that guarantees both secure operation and effortless, tool-free removal. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸? The battery box latches in place with a spring-loaded tab, backed by two click-in levers resting against the battery chamber. You can see that in detail during the assembly montage 🎥 👀 Just a simp...
STELLA's Homing Sequence Explained 🏠🔧 #shorts

🐾 Time for a quick breakdown of STELLA's homing sequence🏠🔄! STELLA’s absolute encoders 🎛️ are positioned on its motors, not on its joints. Since a joint's range comprises multiple motor rotations, the motor's encoder alone can't pinpoint 🚫📍 the joint position. Cue, the homing sequence! Dive into the video 🎥 👀 to see how STELLA's torque-controlled actuators and hardware endstops enable precise h...

Stanley, Stella and the team of Ahead.IO attended the European Robotics Forum 2022 in Rotterdam. From June 27 to 30, the quadruped robots were the stars of the exhibition floor, showing off their dynamic, mobile skills. We met with the best European companies in #robotics development and #research . It was a bit surreal to share the exhibition floor with @ANYbotics , @PALRobotics , @kukarobots9...
Stanley versus gravity
Переглядів 2 тис.2 роки тому
You build something, you put your heart, soul, tears and sweat into it… and more often than not… it falls, crashes, slips…and breaks. Failures are part of the journey. They’re crucial to improve what you’re building. And if you caught them on camera, they make quite a fun montage :D Here are some of the times Stanley experimented with gravity and, well...lost! What are you building right now an...
Stanley Falls

Sometimes Stanley falls and hurts itself. Fortunately, our robot is a kit. It can be repaired. It can be assembled and disassembled. The part that broke here is the crank. A couple of hours of 3D printing and all this will soon be forgotten. Check our Hackaday log to read what we did to prevent breakage on this piece: hackaday.io/project/176726-stanley-the-capstan-based-quadruped-kit More on IG...

if your are free then can you make a video on how to convert the invers kinematics values in code
can you make a detail video on the invers kinematic function and interpolation of one leg of your robot dog because i want to learn it but i cant find any video on it 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi @technicalprince254, thanks for your suggestion! We’re considering our next video topics, and your input is super helpful. Help us share this video and bring more likes to it, we'll prioritize this content 👍
Torque threshold, interesting.
a real dog will freak out watching this
Is there Parts list and STL files I can buy?
Where can I get the files to print the things you show
Where can i get the how to?
Where can i go to get the parts list and the codes?
excelente !!!
quiero uno !!!
impressionante !!!
What’s the motor setup at the joints? What kind of gear setup is there? I’m not an engineer, but I’m very interested in how it works.
i believe those are capstan drives.
Love it
How did you make it 😂
Man, that thing has alot of power, those must be some pretty powerful motors running it.
Ну там вроде по два бесколлекторных мотора размером с руку на каждую лапу.
*interstellar music starts playing*
Did the “near future” ever come? Doesn’t seem to be anything published on these or any source…
May KREIOLab be able to create this spectacular robot dogs in the future. I am starting a labs too. Now a university student from Malaysia.
What's the motive behind this overcomplication?
Autism
Was this to reduce print time and/or wasted filament?
looking for a tutorial to create a similar mold with three parts (using solidworks). ANy help you can offer?
Promo sm 🙌
what is the motor it used?
Brushless AC motors. High power draw, but great in terms of output density
Brushless 3-phase motors or like the guy above me, AC (3-phase) this persom prob used a set of O-drives and encoders to get this movement because with an encoder you can get the correct phase and power to spin the motors faster and at a higher torque, this way they also know thier position. We use servo's and brushed DC motors with drivers and encoders to build these kinds of robots because driving a DC Brushed motor is cheaper and easier then brushless 3 phase AC.
Awesome! So fluid!
not gonna lie the Love you've put in that design really shows :) me and a couple of friends are designing assets for the fast approaching final frontier, your work will have such amazing applications in not even a decade! keep up the Great Work
Reminds me of The Hound from Fahrenheit 451.
Looks steampunk
He got the zoomiez
What brand of Brushless motor you use?
legg too short ,
walk like old dog legg too short
Source code? Cad files?
Any progress?
Looking good
Awesome!!!
He do be spinning tho
Excellent job! About how much does Stanley weigh?
~12 kg
c++?
C++ and Python
MicroPython?@@aheadio
Can we buy the kit yet? :D
What a mindless activity at least make it into a robot woman or something interesting
How much invested in this robot dog
Will you be doing longer format videos in a manner similar to "James Bruton" (or even collaborate with them!); This project is great looking and i'd love a "Deep Dive" into it's features, as well as it's development process.
Soon :)
@@aheadio Will cad or source or any info ever be available? I keep seeing "Soon" TM
keep the updates coming, my team is watching your progress with great interest :)
you should build one with a bomb and send it below a Russian tank in Ukraine
Bit squeaky, but neat :D
Wow I love this. How is it so fast ??
How is it so fast??😮 What motor and gear reduction did you use ???
DO AN OLLIE!!!
This is amazing! Good work!
