another cool thing throughout the levels in the ruins you can see what seems to be statues of both the tikis as well as DK's ancestors which means there might have been an ancient war between the KONG's and the tiki tribe for control of the island just something cool I noticed

You know…despite the rage towards this port specifically I’m still interested in buying this game because I never played it before. I understand the disappointment and I want Nintendo to fix issues but i don’t think that this game is not worth it to someone who never played it I really feel like I’m missing out because people don’t want me to buy it

It's clearly a decent game, but it just lacks soul to me.

I've never liked the extra stuff like motion controls, or stereoscopic 3D. They're fine as options, but at best I don't need them.

As someone who never got to play a game with the Kremlings I enjoy the mystique that came with the Tiki tak tribe. As you played there was a sense of discovery even if the motivations were really simple.

Why not just call it Donkey Kong World!?

If I had my way there’d be more DK games, more Punch Out games and more Mario/DK collaboration games..

The game has a massive issue and that’s because of the multiplayer and the fact that your interactive platforms disappear after one character uses them so the second player does no matter what. So it gets a 5 out of 10 until they fix this. They ported the 3ds version.

I own the WIi and 3ds Donkey Kong Country Returns games. I still play and enjoy the 3ds version. I have pro controller for the Wii and it should play without motion control. But it was Nintendo being Nintendo. Gimmick sellers since the beginning. I will get a switch when it's last generation and is 100 dollars after the switch 2 arrives . I'm positive a new lite version is going to be 100 dollars with game built in digitally.

this game is litteraly my childhood i was so bad and used the silver donkey kong for like the entire final world. this game is actuly so nostalgic

Great game I have it on the wii and 3DS. However im not buying it again for $80 in Australia. If you missed out on donkey kong on the wii and 3DS and own a switch than its a must have pick up. However at this point just make a new Donkey Kong. Im sick of the ports and remasters/remakes. Also just make a 3D Donkey Kong again. So frustrating to be a donkey kong fan. Give us back King K Rool.

DKCR is still ahead of its time.

I’m playing DKCR HD, and I’m really enjoying it. It’s not as heavy on its use of changing camera angles as TF is, but it does so more than I expected.

Overall, I think this port is not as bad as they want to make it out to be honestly, I mean yes, the port has its flaws but they are such minor and stupid flaws that you won't even notice them, I understand the loading times being soo much longer than the wii version and the fact that the sync between Donkey Kong and Diddy is broken in multiplayer like the 3DS version, but they are such minor and stupid details that you won't even notice them like the graphics section, many people complain about the graphics but I really don't, in fact I like the graphics of this version more than the original, the original didn't look bad don't get me wrong but it was limited by the technology of its time And it's not like Sonic Colors Ultimate or Lollipop Chainsaw Re-Pop where they ruined the art style of the original game, no, i think they improved it to make it look like the boxart, also the graphic details are something imperceptible that if you played the original game before you won't i been notice it or at least not much besides idk, donkey's fur?, and this is the saddest part, people give so much importance to these tiny details that they detract from everything else that the port has done, cuz let me tell ya, i really like to play dk country without the stupid an annoying motion controls anymore in a official way without playing on an emulator or the 3ds, now you can choose how to play the game, I also understand the price for a Wii game that came out 15 years ago, i mean why 60$?, but I really don't understand why the people complain about the quality of the port, it isn't that bad i seen worse ports than this, i understand the loading times in the time trials, but sometimes I think that people are blinded by nostalgia and believe that the original was better because of pure NOSTALGIA when they don't even realize that the OG game has flaws that emulators like dolphin had to solve, and not the official company that made these games Cuz something that i always hated about that wii is that you can't play with normal controls with some platform game that demands accuracy like sonic and the secret rings for example, just because they wanted to use the new gimmick of time instead of making a good and responding game, and that's because i hate the wii, it has soo many flaws, and soo many bullshit as a console and that's my unpopular opinion about this console, for me it sucks and will always suck in soo many aspects, but if you like it more power to you, i just don't like the wii that much and i think it's not that great as many people they want to make it out to be

@10:00 well the price shouldn't be a issue for some. Thats why there's GameStops. They can trade in old games and hardware they don't want to bring the prices down a bit. And another reason why, despite what some say, physical media needs to stay around. Other then collection value it Also has trade value. You can lower your own price in some situations

In my opinion the tikis are great villains. Of course not as iconic as the kremlings, but for example the mario franchise has great villains beside bowser too. They were a nice and needed change for the franchise. And who knows: maybe the kremlings will come back one day.

I hope Donkey Kong Jr. is brought back officially one day. Personally, I would go with a Fountain of Youth angle to explain why he's younger than his son, the current Donkey Kong.

honestly I love how the tikis use their musical theme in a creative way by having a recurring "hypnosis" motif throughout the game that makes the bulk of the FINAL BOSS THEME which is just epic. I will say all of the squished bananas and banana juice grossed me out as a kid though.

For me personally, the Tikis are easily the coolest Donkey Kong villains, I like everything, the idea, the design, the music. Hopefully they will get a bit more attention with DKCR HD. Apart from that, there is only one type of Tiki in DKCTF, namely the burning screaming pillar, which again appears on a separate island. This could mean that not all Tikis come from the volcano, or maybe that they have spread to several islands? Yes, they are probably meant to be mysterious, but I would like more lore, where did they come from, how did they end up in the volcano and what happened to them? I can't quite believe that these ancient magical masks are now just splinters of wood, hopefully they will return, maybe other instruments too

When we finally get a refined version of Donkey Kong Country Returns, it's sad that nobody is satisfied with what we get because of one or more small problems in the game that they have the audacity to make it a huge problem to gain a following. I'm truly happy that we have Donkey Kong Country Returns HD running with proper controls that can now join alongside with DKC Tropical Freeze.

my fav DK games are DKCTF, DKC1, DKC2, and Returns. The swordshark was my fav animal buddy so its a shame they didnt bring him back for Returns and TF

I saw this video and decided to finally finish tropical freeze before watching this. I had no idea what Fredrik looked like before this. I have only ever known him from the shadow in the opening cutscene. So, after making my way through the entire game and entering his boss arena I was… pretty underwhelmed if I’m being completely honest. I’m sure some people are just upset because it’s not K. Rool, but if I’m being honest, Fredrik’s design is lacking to me. And I think it comes down to his color palette. K. Rool has a damn good color palette. Green and Gold to really help emphasize his shape with a splash of red from his cape to make him easy to point out in a crowd. Really helped him for his debut title. Part of why we love him so much. Meanwhile, when I got to Fredrick I audible said “That’s just a walrus.” nothing other than his eyes and wrists really stood out to me. Maybe it’s just the lighting when you’re fighting him, but his skin tone just sort of blended in with the background and his muted colors made him bland to look at. But considering DK still looks colorful in the final fight, I don’t think it’s the lighting. Just Fredrik’s color. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Snowmads return, but I think Fredrik needs a bit of an update to make him stand out more. Maybe making him more blue and bumping up his saturation. Sorry for the long post!

you can argue the pricetag is too high, but to me the game itself is fantastic, pure fun and creative gameplay… having a lot more fun playing DKCR the 3rd time (after Wii and 3Ds) than i had with Epic Micky, Astrobot etc (those looked nice, but gameplay / gamedesign was so boring and simple)

The Retro DKC games are amazing, but Nintendo: WE NEED A NEW DK GAME!!!

People say the bosses are bad and the bonus rooms are terrible, but that it's a great game, which I find strange. It's like when people say Breath of the WIld is amazing, but the dungeons are poor; for me if one key part is bad, you can't say they're great games.

This was one of my favorite games on 3DS back in college, I used to play it all the time between classes. Now I'm enjoying it even more in HD. I felt the same way you did about the Wii version, it was unplayable lol

Having not bought the HD remake yet, I currently rank it as #4 for myself. However, my friend and I hysterically learning about the tar mechanic was one of the funniest and most enjoyable memories of any video game I have.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD was amazing on the Nintendo Wii. Motion controls never bother me but I can understand the critique. However, even though I am bit concern why the original Retro studios were not in the credits of this port. I still think this was a good port of the original Wii video game! At least Donkey Kong Country fans unlike Wario Land fans and Star Fox fans got a new video game! Amazing video Justintendo! Keep it up man! What is your favorite Wario Land game and Star Fox game?

Agreed. Finished this at 100% and then jumped to Tropical Freeze and was truly surprised how much more I enjoyed Returns.
