College Hoops 2K8 has been out for over 15 years. This game still has so much replay value due to the depth of it's legacy mode. In legacy mode one can start from the bottom at small schools clawing their way into the big dance and make their way up the ranks to the blue blood programs.
In this video I will share everything I have learned about the game since it released, and show you step by step how to go from missing the tournament to crashing the big dance.

College Hoops 2k8- Small Ball Career Simulation
Also recruiting every other year or every 2 years allow you to focus on developing your team a lot faster as well due to heavy recruiting taking away from team practice time. Plus you can focus on getting game tape on High school freshmen and sophomores and boost their interest in them.
How’d you start your career mode with Kentucky though? I thought it had to be with small conference schools from the list…..
Do an Open legacy instead of Closed
You know much about the coach mode? How to make in game adjustments?
Na not really.
What offense playbook you recommend for a Jokic type center?
When in doubt go motion but I would assume UCLA high post
Could you make a video about how you set your tendencies
It really just kind of depends. There are multiple things to consider. 1. Understanding the player attributes. Don’t just turn up a 3pt tendency just because a guy has like a 90 3pt attribute. His shot off the dribble matters as well because it influences jump shot success. Shot in traffic influences layup/dunk/close shot success. 2. Knowing who to base the offense around. The player with better consistency is always the best option. That’s because he will more consistently be able to produce. 3. How is your team built to play? This kinda goes back to point 2. If your team has multiple weapons you should feature them turn up the tempo and let your guys shoot their best shots.if you really only have one guy to count on to carry the load turn down the tempo and play through that guy, while having other players shoot their best shots at reduced rates. 4. Setting your rotation. Your bench pieces matter. You wanna have guys on the bench who can produce when the starters come out so set their tendencies the same as you would a starter.
Thanks that makes a lot of sense.
Np in my other legacy mode guide video I do it in depth if you wanna check that out
2:13:25 I convert him to center, redshirt him and he would become a two time CPOY who might be a 2nd team all American with nearly 3k points by the time he graduates from my high major school. same with 2:14:34 , without a problem!! 2:15:22 easily gets converted to OG because he has no twitch, barely has an 80 in handles, and probably gets hidden on defense guarding wings front court guys because he is horribly not quick, SMMFH!!
He’s a stud
Keep these series coming
Will do
And yes, it would be great to see some updates from Sacramento ST.
Will do! Going to work now
Your audio keeps going high and low. Hard to hear at times. You’re putting out a lot of good info that’s being missed. Keep the good work.
I appreciate the feedback, I’ll work on the audio in future videos! I noticed it after the fact sadly 😔
Bird went to Indiana St not Indiana lol
Of course he did. But he was originally committed to Indiana and this just made for a more fun Sim since the went head to head every year.
I dont agree at all with what your saying , centers are tbe most recrtuited and hardest postion to get . Guards are by far the easiest to get
To clarify the point I’m trying to make is early in the game as a small school the bigger schools first spend their points and scholarships trying to sign top ranked players which tend to be guards. Centers and PFs are under ranked, leaving an opportunity for you to get some good big men early in the game. Generally speaking I don’t have issues signing bigs. Guards are easy to get because there are so many. You really have to be selective with them by scouting, because the guards tend to produce more bust.
PF and centers are consistently under ranked, which makes them easier to ABL scout as high school sophomores and recruit early as high school juniors is perfect for me being at a small and mid majors for the first 12-15 years of my career. When you convert a top 175 overall and top 12-18 position PF with size (6’7” or taller 210lbs high school sophomore who grows 4-6 inches by their sophomore year in college) it enhances their overall ranking by as much as 50 spots without a redshirt, and 75 spots with a redshirt a skill teaching drills!! And by senior year, he is a 250lbs, 7’ and a conference POY candidate, defending all conference 1st team Center and 1st round draft pick. Most guys, whether PG to SG, SG to SF or PF to C ranked overall between 125-200 are ripe for conversion and redshirt for all conference 2nd as a sophomore or junior or 1st team as a senior
@Istaychiseled by 12 to 15 year even at the smallest of schools you should be pulling almost anyone you want .
I love finding 3 star 6’4+ PGs and moving them to SF or 3 star 6’7+ SFs to C. In my small ball video I had a 6’11 SF playing Center that team was insane.
Bro, would you be able to do a short video on shooting and dribble moves??? Im familiar with CH2K6 but this volume is something new to me and its kinda hard its definitely not a pick up and play basketball game.
I will work on it!
@@imaynor Thank you so much!
In the meantime I just dropped this College Hoops 2k8 Legacy Mode Guide ua-cam.com/video/AlcrIgYMCUw/v-deo.html
@@imaynor I'm going to watch this right now
2:56:39 it’s me, glitches!! 😂
Absurd glitches in this game 😂
The Georgia Tech 2 time POY in year 3 and 4 is Al-Farouq Aminu
Thanks I feel like Teague or his brother played on this team that’s who I was thinking of.
I came across this video sometime in the last year and I manually rebuilt your entire spreadsheet. I try to keep track of every player that I end up coaching as well as a player/coaches HOF, and I track which save it was from just by adding a head coach field. Using the legacy score with players, it's fun to see who ends up doing well and who doesn't really pan out when it comes to the legacy score
That is awesome! It’s crazy how variable the game can be sometimes. It’s really like a box of chocolates 😂
@@imaynor Do you have a spreadsheet where you track all of your HOF players and stuff or is it just limited to each legacy?
I only really track the ones from the videos
awesome video - watched this the whole shift at work today :D
Thanks I hope to get back to making more of these soon
Many, many thanks my man. I just took a note cards worth of notes and feel much more confident that I know what's going on now.
No problem. This is a game with a whole lotta depth but they didn’t provide a lot of insight
So you don’t offer any scholarships until right before the in season signing period ends? Then grind the guys you offered until the offseason recruiting period ends??
Sorry I wasn’t clear. I go ahead and offer my top targets and keep recruiting back up targets in case I can’t land my top targets. Right before the signing period ends I decide if I will land my top targets or not. If not I then offer my back up targets. You do have to grind your targets from the end of the in season signing period to the offseason recruiting because you never know what will happen with the CPU stealing your targets.
How did you get updated uniforms?
The 2K legacy reborn mod
@@imaynor do you have the link?
ua-cam.com/video/MIBbhdCLgJ0/v-deo.htmlsi=12RT-iW1-WGnt0AZ This is the video I used if you need more help let me know.
Man this is some advanced level shit - only just picked this game up and literally have no idea how to even begin to dive into all the legacy mode stuff - can you 'watch' the games as in let the AI play the AI? I prefer to be the coach but would love to do a dynasty like that. Also - do players have fictional names or is it all 'Position #Number' ?
In legacy mode you can just straight up watch AI play vs AI or you can do coach mode. You can generate fake names for your roster.
I’ve been back to this video like 3 times already, this game is more complicated then I expected, but it’s way better and more fleshed out then 10
Yea it’s kinda disappointing considering how great the presentation is on 10 but this game 2k8 is very intricate
@@imaynor yea the gameplay in 10 isn’t as good as 2k8 either unfortunately
Hey can yall help me out just bought this game for first time, why do I only have 1 scholarship?
That is more than likely because the team you are on has only one graduating senior. There is also the chance you have no graduating senior but the scholarship wasn’t filled when he left the previous season.
@@imaynor damn makes sense, but at the same time it doesn’t. Should let me have as many as I want, and cut players during the offseason. Thanks man
@@fleyedd1479 You can cut players and open up their scholarships. IDK if they open immediately or the next season tho.
Tried adding Loyola Chicago but it didnt work, do i release some of the players to make them suck more? Lol
They are technically a mid-major and not a small conference so I’m not sure you can start a closed legacy with them
how do you get to the screen to see how old the players on your roster are at each position? it’s in the recruiting examples part of the video.
When in the recruiting screen click in the left stick then tab through until you see the screen.
Does this apply ro ps2???
I couldn’t tell you. I have not played that version since it came out.
Do you know how playing a player in games affects development?
Players that actually play progress more throughout the season and they also gain experience. This experience impacts team unity/game experience which makes a player more productive in the simulation.
This might be dumb but For the scouting attribute, you were saying it reveals info about opponents (unless I misheard) where do you find this information?
The attribute says that and you do get scouting reports for opponents. Not too sure how the attribute rating impact this
Cool 👍🏼 where are those reports?
@@TheJmill31 The day you play a team find them in the conference settings and click in the right analog stick then cycle through until you see three different pages. One page shows what they run on offense and shot distribution; another page is the same thing for defense. These two pages can help you adjust coaching sliders. The third page gives you stats. I find this page more useful if you play the games because you figure out who to file, leading scorers, etc.
You mentioned Tony Bennett. Is there a way to run his vaunted packline defense?
One of the zones may implement similar principles like I think there’s a 2-2-1 or maybe playing the 2-1-2 with loose defense
Do you have any knowledge on the offensive playbooks for sure? I’m not at home right now to test the options. Like is box dribble drive or is that your opinion? Do the guys actually play different or to the style of the playbook? I want to test out that Princeton playbook as well to see if they actually run those concepts. Thanks for the video, good stuff in here
I’m going to say I don’t know for sure because I don’t have a source or my own data, so this is completely anecdotal and based off my experiences but this is how I use the playbooks based on my rosters Box- put it on the floor driving players so handles with good inside scoring particularly at PG Princeton- guys cutting to the basket, has workers for more up tempo offenses UCLA High Post- if I have a skilled Center like Walton/Kareem/Jokic as the star Flex- multi guard starting lineup that includes at least two PGs/CGs 4 Out- small ball Stack- haven’t figured this out I tried it with big lineups and shooting lineups but saw nothing significant either way Motion- I honestly just us this if I don’t know what to pick
@@imaynor cool, thanks for sharing. I’m going to do some digging on this as well. Really wish they would remake this game as well. Feel like they could do some awesome things with it
Yea if you play my gm on 2k and see how in depth the game planning can be it could be phenomenal
hey dude! thanks for the video soooooo much stuff i had no idea about!!! thanks for putting this together. STARTING MY DYNASTY TONIGHT!!! VERMONT WHAT UP
Glad I could help! Let me know how it goes.
Just curious how did that legacy mode go?
Is it necessary to do the 5 point recruit call on juniors every week?? Kind of annoying pausing the game every week to boost my % by a little
I think having them on the watchlist with assisted recruiting on does it for you. I never manually recruit under classmen I just add them to the watch list.
Great videos my man. Have fired back up the PS3 recently and love watching the progression. Have you tried sticking with one of the small conference teams throughout your coaching career to see how it would play out? Know you’d miss out on a few attribute points from skipping mid and major conference jobs
Yes I have. I wasn’t a fan just bc I like to land big time recruits. Felt like a loop. But I may do it again one day for the channel.
What you’re able to do with all 3 of these programs is awesome!
Yea it really showed me how valuable that teaching attribute is.
@@imaynor I’m following your advice on the best order to bump up your coach grades. Excited to see how well I’m able to start turning programs around like you do.
I made a guide video too you should check it out
@@imaynor watched it twice lol…Next time going to pull out my notebook.
HOLY SHIT, I have owned this game since 2007 and I never knew you could add schools to the list of Legacy Mode. I’ve wanted to start with UTC for YEARS. Thank you!
Na man thank you for watching
Does your success or lack thereof as a coach help/hindsr with recruiting at all? Great job to Coach Allen 👏👏
Yea. Interest is determined by the recruiting priorities. Your success affects priorities like play for a great coach, prestige, etc…
If you still make videos, follow the Tanman or Bordeaux syle of gameplay and editing. Nonetheless I still enjoyed the video keep it up!
Thanks for the advice I will look them up. I do still make videos. I am hoping to drop another soon. It just takes a lot of time considering what it takes to record/exit. I’m also an educator so rn is a pretty busy time of year for me and my family.
Can you add created teams to career legacy or no?
Yes here is how. 1. Make your School and save the roster 2. Start a new legacy and make sure you enable "Customize Conferences" 3. After all other settings are selected press start 4. Select a team to remove for the legacy mode 5. Tab left to select your created school
To confirm, you are able to pick multiple teams in a dynasty mode? If so, does anybody know how many, and how many years the dynasty mode can go up to? Thank you in advance.
For both open and closed mode you can pick 4 teams. I have done 4 team legacies before but never saw it through the end so I just assume you can do 40 years.
I guess that’s a pause as well..😭⚰️
Big pause 😂
My players always go to the league lol yours stay forever I'm on 360
Honestly not sure how I’m pulling that off
I will say attributes related to potential size and athleticism contribute to draft stock maybe it’s just a coincidence I wasn’t getting those guys
You can turn off players leave early in the options.
@@dr.awkward9075I thought about turning it off but I feel like I’m cheating lol
Hey man love your videos i got a career sim idea: Overseas rebuild where you can only recruit world recruits you could make Dirk Nowitski your coach and start of on a team in texas as that is where he played his career in the nba i know thats challemging but i think it would be a fun watch :)
Great idea I will definitely give it a go in the future!
Looking forward to seeing it
By any chance do you know how to make a created player a recruit for college hoops 2k7
No I do not. I don’t think it is possible.
Love the series can’t wait to the next episode and what’s you dream major conference team to coach in the game
Thanks for the support I really do appreciate it. I have done sims with almost every team since I have played for so long. For the sake of this series I would like to use teams and conferences I haven’t used in other videos. Would love to to a Mountain West or A-10 team if I have to go mid major. For the power conference team I would like to do one of the teams that are never good from the Big10, SEC, and Big East. Examples would be Purdue, Georgia, DePaul.
Keep the great content coming Maynor
Thank you I will try to.
Man that Horizon league run was tough….I had a similar situation with Missouri State in the Missouri valley conference and it was so tough surviving the conference tournament. Another great vid brother 💯
Again thanks for all the support bro I really do appreciate it. But mid-major basketball is very fun in this legacy mode. It’s even more fun if you can find a competitive rival.
I was having fun playing this mode, I was playing north Carolina I was 15-1 #1 team had been playing for about 5-6 hours, then the game crashed after I did a drill, I thought that's annoying but I'll just relaunch the game, opened the game back up and went to load my legacy only to find there was no save, It made me very mad because Autosave is a very basic feature that pretty much every video game has except this one.
Yea I should have included that frequent saves are a must. I hate when this happens.
