Miniature Wargaming in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Переглядів 26 тис.6 років тому
The roots of miniature wargaming can be traced back to the Kriegsspiel rules, which was a wargame system created by the German and Prussian military, in early 19th century, to help train their officers. It was in the early 20th century, though, that wargaming started to develop as a hobby. In 1913, the novelist H.G.Wells, who was one of the very first players, brought it to the public’s attenti...

    11:07 “Centaur Chieftain, what does that do?” Bemused silence as she captures 3 of your pieces, followed by “No!” Just cracked me, sold me on the game instantly as well.

    Thank you for this guide. I was introduced to this game recently and actually love it. For me, this type of games take a lot of effort because I am not naturally skilled at planning ahead. It is not a very popular game on BGA but I really enjoy it. I find your tips very useful.

    Is it possible to activate a henchman for a 2nd time in the same space? For instance, if your Lady in Waiting is in blue and you land on the blue principality space, can you redeploy your Lady in Waiting to blue to place?

    • @TheLuminousCleric
      @TheLuminousCleric 3 роки тому

      No. When you land on a principality space, you must move one of your henchmen there from either your player board or another principality.

    I have very fond memories of 11 or 12-year-old me discovering this book in a bookshop, picking it up, and almost immediately becoming engrossed in it, its gaming concept so intuitive and inspirational I just immediately had to buy it - thanks to my mum lending me some cash. I recently rediscovered Fighting Fantasy now that I am of a certain age when every fond memory of childhood has turned into pure nostalgia. Of course I sold off my small collection of 20-ish FF books a long time ago, not too many years after discovering them for the first time, but thanks to eBay, they are now easy to get (even if the accessibility of eBay and number of other nostalgeeks like myself have seriously inflated the prices for some of them). I've not played Warlock of Firetop Mountain again yet, opting instead to start with the sequel, Return to Firetop Mountain, even without any cheating to start with, and making UA-cam videos of my playthroughs. I enjoyed it so much I'm planning to get through the whole series now. I'm currently working my way through the slightly more challenging-to-map Freeway Fighter. Anyway, it's great to see there are others making UA-cam videos of their Fighting Fantasy playing. I'll subscribe to every single one I find, so you should be up to 73 subscribers now.

    Do some more books! You could do a classic Ian Livingstone - City of Thieves, Deathtrap etc. You could do some creative Steve Jackson - House of Hell, Appointment with F.E.A.R. Or you could do some of the really good late series ones - Moonruner, Howl of the werewolf FINALLY, you COULD do the Inkle Sorcery! Series. That's an amazing port. The first 2 are expecially good but the 3rd and 4th lose it a little I think. great vid

    Good video. I've played your sister a few times on BGA myself - fun games. We'd probably play more often except that I avoid 2-player Deathmatch. - One small correction: the discard action is more powerful than you describe: you discard one card (from your regular 3 cards) and may then replace any of your other cards (from your 3 regular deck cards, plus legends and flare card). In addition to improving your hand, it is also a way of avoiding putting down a piece if you want to manipulate the flare balance in your favour. -- In terms of the game you played, you had some bad draws, with basically all the weakest cards in the Highland deck popping up by midgame (Clan Axeman, Eagle Lord, Wild Eagle, Clan Guardian). That said, there were 2 key points which would have helped with hand management and flares: 1) there was no reason to play War Summoner AND Blood Shaman on the same turn, the latter would have sufficed (you had enough pieces on the board to make the Shaman so the extra turn wasn't needed, and by putting down extra pieces, you tilted the flare balance in favour of your opponent, which had later repercussions); 2) with two weak cards in your hand (Wild Eagle & Clan Axeman), best to ditch Wild Eagle by using it to place the piece to make Angel of Death, rather than directly putting a common down.
