He said for the people who can't play chord progressions and only play one key at a time, that style compared to chopping up and manipulating samples (not just looping) is ultimately easier. I can do both well. Coming up with a simple one key melody is easy for me so I find it boring. All I have to do is load up any soft synth and start messing around until I like the one bar melody, then add the rest around it. If I knew how to play complex chords, then the overall process would be more of a challenge. But when sampling, first I have to go dig for samples. Having an ear to even know what is worthy of sampling is an artform in and of itself. And like he said, you have to know what records you do not touch. DJ Khaled clearly does not know or respect this because his sample choices are cringe-worthy (He Not Like Us). Sample-based producers go to obscure record stores all around the world literally trying to find unique records that have been long forgotten and breathe new life into them. If the producer doesn't just rely on loops, creativity is required to come up with new ways to make musical sounds that even most professional life-long musicians would not come up with by simply playing their guitars, painos, basses, etc. Techniques like 1. using small bits and triggering it in different keys (Jay-Z - Where I'm From), pitching samples down to make new tones (Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Part II), or using samples from two or more different sources to create one new composition (De La Soul - Breakadawn) are just levels of creative expression that so far, NO instrument hold musician has pulled off. (If you have any examples to the contrary, please share them with me). 9th is not sampling from musicians who make single note melodies from today's underwhelming pop radio. He samples from records that came from an era where you couldn't even sniff a professional record studio if you were not a top tier creator. He and most of us who use samples are pulling from unique instances in these recordings to create something fresh. Hip Hop was founded on it when the first DJs would sample breakbeats/drum loops from our elders' records to create our first drum patterns to even rap over. So say you're reading this and you're a keyboard based producer, where did your drum patterns come from? From what I hear from a lot of trap, drill, pop rap, etc, the single fingered melodies may be new but most of these drum patterns sound like they came from a template and the sounds clearly came from a drum pack. The dedication is not the same and the originality is sorely lacking.

Make sure you get the 2 tier attachment too. I got mine from liquid stands on amazon, but they look like clones in every aspect. I put my MPC right on top of the keyboard on the second tier. Sturdy enough to handle the pad hitting and handles the X's weight just fine. Put my fantom 06 on the bottom. Definitely like the most solid stable stand out there I used.

@4:30 theory is not hard. its not necessary to make music, its a guide. There's only 12 notes in an octave before it repeats in a higher tone. Counting music is challenging when playing. Playing and reading or singing and playing is actually hard. Hip hop/rap isnt based or founded off of any of that. hip hop is story tellin, givin knowledge, perspective. lyrics. beats in rap are to be a background for the lyrics. Even spoken word... People presenting lyrics without a beat to their own rhythm. Funny enough tho you always mention sampling and compare it to classical music for originality but you do know classical music gets replayed by pianists and orchestras who didn't write the original? those pieces get redone and reiterated all the time, by colleges, camps, choir programs. its music. if its good its good. The process is up to whoever is making it and, how its made is irrelevant.

For what its worth man I've been playing piano for over 15 years and I've never done anything like this excercise. You should be playing more with the weight of your arm and hand, not your finger muscles. Strength is not a consideration for classical piano technique. Good luck and don't hurt yourself man

Passive aggressive comments are done to hassle/annoy/frustrate you. I posted some things to someone on an "Art/Critique" section for artwork and there is nothing but constant passive aggressive comments saying things like "this is nothing but pure symbol drawing..." and "Your anatomy is all way off" when talking about someone's art. This is not critique. The reason why this is not critique, is because they don't take the art work that the person did and draw over it using a red colored pen/pencil/marker in the art program that they have, to show what way the drawing can be improved. They just say "symbol drawing", offer no method to improve along with going on about how "dumb" they are and if they do offer "advice" it's always something impossible/unaffordable, knowing that the person can't do what they saying for them to do. Doesn't the comment that this person left on your music sound just like what I'm talking about? Since this person set out to annoy you, now you know the reason why the comment is meaningless, it doesn't take away that what they did is annoying, but it should let you be able to see it for what it really is, which is something that they set out to say, just to annoy you.
