Ave Verum Corpus, K. 618 - W.A. Mozart (Liszt's transcription)
This little Mozart transcription is at one remove from the original Ave verum corpus motet - which also dates from the last year of Mozart’s life. Liszt had already incorporated it into a work variously for piano, piano duet, organ or orchestra entitled A la chapelle Sixtine and this version merely adds a cadence to an excerpt from that work. (Liszt did make a more literal version of Mozart’s motet - for organ, S674a.)

Prelude Op. 28 No. 20 in C Minor - F.F. Chopin
Переглядів 2753 роки тому
The Prelude Op. 28, No. 20, in C minor by Frédéric Chopin has been dubbed the "Funeral March" by Hans von Bülow but is commonly known as the "Chord Prelude" due to its slow progression of quarter note chords. Largo from Harpsichord Concerto No. 5 in F Minor, BWV 1056 - J.S. Bach
Переглядів 9 тис.3 роки тому
The term arioso, which in Italian literally means ‛airy’, designates a style of solo opera singing between recitative and aria. Arguably the famous arioso ever composed, today's piece serves as the opening sinfonia of cantata BWV 1056 by Johann Sebastian Bach. Prelude Op. 28 No. 6 in B Minor - F.F. Chopin
Переглядів 1493 роки тому
This is another of the simpler preludes, and one of the most famous. Chopin requested that it be played during his funeral. Chopin’s lover, George Sand, wrote that this prelude “… precipitates the soul into frightful depression”, a sentiment that I think sums it up quite nicely. Piano Sonata Op. 110 No. 31 in A-flat Major, 3rd movement (Adagio ma non troppo) - L.V. Beethoven
Переглядів 3003 роки тому
For Beethoven's 250th birthday. The movement uses the scherzo's concluding ritardando bass arpeggio in F major to resolve to B♭ minor, forming a seamless bridge between the rough humour of the scherzo and the doleful meditation of the Arioso, in A♭ minor. The recitative, whose tempo changes frequently, leads to an extended arioso dolente, a lament whose initial melodic contour is similar to the...
Prelude Op. 28 No. 7 in A major - F.F. Chopin
Переглядів 2744 роки тому
Inspired by Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Chopin wrote a set of 24 preludes for piano each in a different major or minor key. This prelude No.7 in A major is probably one of the shortest pieces in the set, and it feels like a playful dance tune. Moonlight Sonata 1st Movement - L.V. Beethoven
Переглядів 2864 роки тому
The first movement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 'Quasi una fantasia' in C sharp minor Op. 27 No. 2, 'Moonlight' is one of the most popular piano pieces ever written. The sonata got its name when poet Ludwig Rellstab described the music as being 'like moonlight shining on a lake' in 1832. Kinderscenen, Op. 15, No. 7, Träumerei - R. Schumann
Переглядів 1084 роки тому
When Schumann wrote Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood), he was deeply in love with Clara Wieck, soon to become his wife over the objections of her overbearing father. The composer worked at a feverish pace, composing these pieces in just several days. Actually, he wrote about thirty small pieces, but trimmed them to the thirteen that comprise the set. They are fairly simple in terms of execut...
Gymnopédie No. 1 - E. Satie
Переглядів 4244 роки тому
The Gymnopédies, published in Paris starting in 1888, are three piano compositions written by French composer and pianist Erik Satie. The melody of the piece uses deliberate, but mild, dissonances against the harmony, producing a piquant, melancholy effect that matches the performance instructions, which is to play the piece “painfully” (douloureux). The first few bars of Gymnopédie No. 1 consi...
Prelude in E Minor - F.F. Chopin
Переглядів 3125 років тому
As seemingly simple as it is, this prelude has endured as one of Chopin’s moist famous works. Despite the straightforward melody, it overflows with emotion. Sadness is perhaps an appropriate word, but the simplicity of the word itself fundamentally understates the delicate beauty and subtle nuances in the piece. It also misses the tones of oppression and even restrained despair that are subtle ...
Prelude in C Major - J.S. Bach
Переглядів 4605 років тому
When J.S. Bach began working on his epic Well-Tempered Clavier (or Das Wohltemperierte Klavier, to give it its proper German title) in 1722, chances are he wasn't thinking that it would become one of the defining musical texts in keyboard history. But, somehow, it has - and the Prelude No. 1 in C Major is where it all starts. The Well-Tempered Clavier (there are two volumes of it, each containi...

Right before I found this beautiful performance of yours, I saw a video on a YT channel called “Weird History” the subject is Erik Satie... It’s pretty nuts (despite my best intentions, I laughed several times) I wanted to share what I just learned from the other video: Satie grew disgusted because people were not ignoring his compositions (such as this amazingly beautiful piece) as well as many of his other compositions! His intention was to create ambience music , not music that people would listen to but music just meant to set a certain mood . Satie’s disgust arose when he saw that people were intently focusing on his music rather than going on with their activities... One would think that as a complement. If you get a chance go check it out it’s really really nuts but I still love his music
