    Hey man thanks for the video. So I feel very conflicted on Trackball mice and Vertical mice. It seems like vertical mice address pronation/ulnar deviation issues. And a lot people say trackballs reduce wrist movements; but then it seem like trackballs then introduce the pronation/ulnar deviation issues. It feels like there are only trade offs and not one solution to this issue. So maybe that is why you say go with something that feels comfortable to relax on? Right now it seems like using a Vertical Mouse with a low sensitivity so your movement is mostly coming from your elbow is the best solution. Also what do you think about trackpads? To one of the most comfortable uses Is having my arm elevated from an arm rest and then casually sitting my fingers on top of a Magic Trackpad.

    As someone who's started experimenting with trackballs due to wrist and finger problems caused by too much mouse use at work, I feel like this is the only video / article I've seen that gets it. Most of the trackball reviews / advice I've seen wax lyrical about the ergonomics of trackballs over mice, but they all advocate wrist planting over floating hands - which for me leads to even more pain on a trackball than on a regular mouse! We're supposed to type with floating hands and arms, so it's bizarre that most don't seem to understand that this surely applies to pointing devices also.

    Insanely useful video. I can't believe I'm using a broken NOMAD wireless charger as a wrist pad. Middle finger is taking a while to get used to but it reduced the pain in my arm as soon as I gave it a try so I will do my best to get past that learning curve. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in ergonomics on a rather niche Mac accesory.

    I bought the mighty mouse 1 - and regret it. Thank you for explaining it. If you have adjust yourself to the tool you are using - that is an early PC-ism. The idea of the Mac was the opposite in the 1980-90ies, to make tools adjusted to the customer, easy and intuitively to use! It was THIS difference that made Apple products so special!!! I will have to adjust my TABLE or chair to be able to use it as you recommend, to get the perfect angle. But there are other issues: 1st - the pressure for clicking the index finger is too hard, 2nd - the sensors of my mouse are so sensitive that it reacts even when my finger is still 1-2 mm ABOVE the surface. As if my finger was charged or had a magnetic field. Since my right hand has the index finger on the left - as anatomically correct - the content, e.g. in Calc/Excel jumps to the left. Controlling it by force, always thinking how to controll it is possible, but very tiring. The mighty mouse is a technical gimmick which misses its goal. I wished Steve Jobs were alive and Woz still evaluating the hardware. The best mouse I ever had (and continued buying used, when it was used up) was the (mapped like the pen) Wacom Intuos mouse - unfortunately driver support seized in OS 10.15 Catalina, with no follow up.

    Isn't easier to just using your thumbs to manage your cursor with the rest of the hands and arms resting, and then moving your hands, etc, to use the keyboard or make a gesture in the trackpad or touchpad in your laptop? Even for left-clicking and dragging stuff, you can still be using your thumbs.

    Super informative video, I was stressing about the risks of using the trackpad since I find it so useful on a mac, your video helped a lot. One question, my trackpad is placed further in on my desk, so my entire arm is planted while my wrist is usually hovering, is that better or worse?

    hi! not quite sure if this was covered here but in relation to using one's middle finger as a primary pointer -- does it follow, then, that for scanning/browsing (the typical two finger scroll), one will now use the middle WITH the fourth finger (next to the pinky)? or do we shift back to the usual (old) pointer plus middle finger for that? would appreciate any response to this. thank you!

    • @ergonmx5658
      @ergonmx5658 Рік тому

      If you can the index finger and ring finger are going to be the best ergonomic practice for two finger scrolling. The index finger should be avoided for gestures. Thumb and middle are best for zoom.
