What has Marner done? Career high of 26 goals. No assist ever won a game. That's why you pay for goals and both Mattews and Nylander were meant to score. Mattews got paid for Hart trophy and 2 rocket Richard trophies. Mattews even scores at higher pace without Marner. Proved by Domi last year. Mattews has proven he scores with whoever he plays with. Tell me again what Marner has done. Nothing! Averages LESS than 1 block or hit when the game matters most. Supposedly, our best defensive player, who's a soft perimeter player. Oh boy, he's playing well in a contract year. I've never seen that before, but it's about playoffs, and he doesn't put it all on the line when the game matters most. Nike Borchevsky plays a heavier game. It's much wiser to go after Rantanen.

Trade Marner and break out of this Groundhog Day routine. How many more times do we need to see regular season success and playoff failure? Trade him while his stock is high.

Thanks for your thoughts, but as I & others have pointed out, the Marner situation is vastly different than the Rantanen one. Marner has a full no move. He doesn't want to leave. End of story. There is zero point in talking about it any further, as he's not going anywhere without his approval, so the Leafs are NOT trading him this season. Whether they extend him is as of yet, unknown & they will likely evaluate his performance in the post-season under Berube before they commit to bigger money. He's an elite RW all day long & is currently 4th overall in the NHL in points. They may tell Mitch here's our offer for 8 yrs (12.5M aav maybe) if you want more money, see you later & spend that money on other player(s). It's likely Marner signs an extension imo.

I would not say that the eastern conference stinks, it is just very even. There are more bad teams in the west so the good teams have more points. In total the teams in the east have 798 points while the teams in the west only have 785 points. Even though they are in first place in the Atlantic, Toronto is not well ahead considering that there are nearly 40 games left. About the Leafs losing streak, 3 games don't mean much however the recent trend is not good. The standings in the Atlantic since December 1 are: Montreal 29 points Toronto 28 points Ottawa 27 points Boston 24 points Detroit 24 points Florida 24 points Buffalo 15 points So the Leafs have been " mid" since December 1. This is going to be very tight except for Buffalo.

honestly taking the captaincy from him was absolutely ridiculous because while he isn't perfect nor should he be, he is a good leader who always gives 110% individually and encourages others to do the same and just cause matthews is the best player on the ice, it doesn't necessarily mean he deserves the C. There is only so much he can do about the team as a whole and the other players that are playing on the leafs. Being a captain is more about what happens on the ice too. It is also in practices, locker room and in the community as well with fans and such. JT has always had was too much heat on him and it really does drive me crazy when he gets overlooked that badly. He is a part of a generation too (generation y) that was in a low scoring rugged period and strong mentality which matthews does not have being a gen z player. I believe that he'd still be producing the way he is now regardless cause 2 years ago man was he incredible and in the 2019-2020 season he was on pace for 35-36 goals and like 80 ish points then until the last 3 weeks of the season got cancelled due to the covid lockdowns. I am not even a leafs fan but man i have always been very very fond of tavares individually and it is baffling to me by all the shit he gets from certain people.
