Nice & simple. I noticed you didn’t use glue on the body. Do ever have a problem with it spinning after one or more fish hit it? Also, that was a pretty big block of wax you were using. Are you using plain beeswax?

Works great as an indicator for suspending buzzers underneath for trout on our stillwaters 👍🏻

I love it. Great use of a material that is often discarded. Does it really slim down in the water or does it stay a little plump like a fat minnow?

Ants are usually effective, but very hard to see in fast water. I used Gartside’s ant with an elk hair wing for visibility and also used polypropylene fibers. Both are super fish attractors when there is a flying ant hatch. The Krystal Flash looks really nice, so my next ant batch will be with this for the wings. Jack Dennis used Krystal Flash as wing material on dry fly patterns but somehow it never occurred to me to use it on ants. Thank you for posting.

Just saw your channel. Great job on the ginger quill. Enjoy watching guys tie the old school wet flies. One of the most challenging parts of tying wet flies is learning how to set the wings. You do a fine job.

I’m a new subscriber, it’s named after Tom Murray who now lives on Vancouver Island. I know this as a young guy back in 91-93 I wanted to learn to fly fish and I was lucky enough to be mentored by Tom. He is a avid Sea Run Cutthroat fisher, this fly is fantastic on the beach.

Great pattern. I used a brown ant as a dropper behind an Adams on a stream in j Indiana today. The rainbows chose the brown ant over the Adams. Who knows what they might choose tomorrow. Yet to be determined.

Nice job a buddy of mine told me these flies work very well on brown trout looking forward to tying one up

  • @Taylor_in_Southern_Oregon

I've been tying and fishing this fly for over 50 years. My all time fave dry fly. I would encourage you to use more peacock herl to cover up the thread showing on the shank between the post and the eye. I like that you use calf instead of yarn, AND you use one clump for both tail & body, as the original. I also like your modification to use a dubbing loop twisted with the herl, instead of the original wire rib counter-wrapped to secure the herl. Peacock is fragile stuff and I think your method will do a better job keeping them from breaking.

Interesting rendition. Usually I see the rubber legs and antennas tied in as one piece. What is your thinking on tying them in as two separate pieces? Also love the twisted chenille approach. I'm gonna use that on my bluegill patterns as a more flexible and cheaper alternative to variegated chenille.

Nice job on one of my all-time favorite flies. I have done very well with it on bluegills. That yarn body substitute really worked, better than I expected. Years ago, I was fortunate to get a supply of claret floss form Herter's.

A little tip that I learned from Ward Bean's warm water fly fishing site - trim the chenille to give the fly body that carrot type profile that is so common.
