Surf trip through Peru with Rosario, the Peruana local
Rosario invited me to visit her home country of Peru! I guess Tahiti went well... haha. So, of course I said yes! I took a week off work in December and went down there where we explored surf up north and around Lima. I can't believe how much we explored in a week looking through all the footage. And we also got really lucky with a north swell right when we went up north. Great trip and there are sooo many waves there that are uncrowded and good. Oh and the food is fantastic and the prices are good. Was trying to make this video more like a scenic travel video with some commentary and good music.
Such a great trip and I was lucky enough to have the best tour guide, Rosario!
Rosario also took a lot of the videos and all the surf photographs. Check out her IG @rdelgadophotography where you can see all her great photos with some of them featuring me! haha
Thanks to everyone for watching the video of another country I got to surf.
Super thanks to Mike Knoell who is in my El Salvador video and was kind enough to let me use two of his songs he just produced. These both went great with the road tripping vibe through the dusty roads of northern Peru and I listen to them all the time when I'm just lounging around. Also, thanks to all the people in Peru who were kind enough and welcoming of me. Especially to Rosario's family who accepted me in with open arms even though my Spanish is atrocious. And showed me around to some of their favorite places and places to eat
It was also cool meeting Cristobal de Col at his place in northern Peru. Look up his place and I recommend staying there as it is right on the point with awesome views of the waves. Also was cool to chit chat with Parker Coffin in the lineup who was super humble for being a pretty high profile surf pro. It was fun sharing that session with you guys!

I had just met Rosario about a month ago and we had immediate chemistry. So when she told me about her trip she was taking to Tahiti to a surf camp in Moorea and invited me to come, I said YES! Don't know if she was expecting me to say yes but here we were. Traveling together on an international trip after only knowing each other about a month. The timing was perfect and we scored some amazing ...

Part 2 of our trip to the Caribbean in Panama. Went to spots not normally surfed and was lucky enough to run into Jose who lives there. He showed us around his home and without him, we wouldn't have gotten the waves we got. We had fun exploring a side of Panama not ventured too much and experiencing the people and culture over there. Can't wait to get back there! And always fun traveling with t...

Took a trip to Tavarua Fiji where we scored waves and fish. In a few of my surf sessions, even ran into two time world champ Tom Carroll who was one of the nicest guys I've met who's also a famous surfer. Also got to spearfish and got some good fish. Stoked on our crew, especially the first boat crew, and can't wait to go back. It was a dream of mine to go surf Cloudbreak since I was in high sc...

All Things Considered: Panama. The amigos decided to take a trip to less chartered areas in the Caribbean side of Panama and found some good waves, good people, and good times. We were so lucky to find Jose who had a boat and was the only other surfer we saw the whole trip and showed us some of his spots. Thanks Captain Jose! Always nice to go on a adventure and look for waves. The dream!

Went out to get some sheepshead (goats) and got the biggest one I’ve ever gotten at just over 21 pounds. Better yet, it was for the fathomiers scramble meet contest. The fish plus two other fish got me fourth and my buddy Josh also on my boat got a nice goat and got 5th. Wakako on my boat got her biggest sand bass too so I Gota say it was a good day

This one is long but I couldn't help but include everything since it was one of the most epic days on a surf trip in my life. Basically a surf trip within a surf trip. We take a hour and half boat trip in the dark at 5AM to get to a spot at our Captains home town where we score dredging beach break barrels. Definitely the best waves of the trip and we also make friends with all the local kids w...

Amazing build for a 13fter!! I run the same boat on the ocean 11 miles offshore (see my channel) and often wish I had a pilot house!! I take quite a bit of spray. Where did you get the blue cover you were using? I use one made for a bass style boat but the sides don’t account for the railings. Anyways, thanks for the great build video and story!! I often get people that talk down my boat and it’s capabilities because everyone thinks you need a 20ft half million dollar boat but that’s not a reality for everyone and these boats are more than capable! Great video! Also, how did the transom do with the 5hp kicker? I have a 2.3hp but I would prefer a 5hp. I was nervous to put the 5hp on due to the extra weight but I have had to use my kicker to get back from 4 miles out and it only gets me to about 4mph with a following tide.
Nice man you understand lol. I was worried about weight io but I think be cause the transom is curved, adds lots of strength and have had no issues. Probably don’t need it with my new motor though. Not sure what blue cover you are referring to.
2.3 3 4 5 hp ektric proline out bard betrr kertin then just gas or disel
Nice trip, but super LAME to have your radio playing in such a small campground, let alone the fact that sound travels in the campground... Very inconsiderate of others. Sad, but I guess that is the norm in our society now.
Awesome.
Cool video about the evolution of your boat! Its nice to see how it came along and making it work for you.
Thanks man! I recently lowered the pilot house about a foot to fit into my new garage. Now I can stand in the back and see over the roof. Also added a roof rack to the roof
I subscribed to the channel. Cool Build!!!
Thanks man! I’ll check out your channel too.
What time of year? Clean conditions!
It was. This was early November
Great. Beautiful ocean. Love it.
Thank you!!!!!
Saw your boat on slayday post stoked to see it still getting you out there
Oh yeah still gettin out there. Been running better than ever. Hoping to get a bit offshore in next few weeks
How's that lime on the scrapes feel
you tell me hahaha. feels great huh?
Epic.....
How much fuel did you take and how much did you use did you refill at the island if so Avalon or two harbors? Thank you making the trip next weekend to the same campsite on a 14 foot Bayliner with a 50 hp 1982 merc 50
I had a 12 gallon tank as my main and brought a spare 5 gallon and 2 gallon jug. Refilled at two harbors. Ended up using around 22 gallons if I remember right
Dude, I grew up directly on the bay in Newport Beach CA...I had that exact 13' old school blue BW with a Johnson 50 on it!! I always dreamed of doing what you've just done!!! It would look cool if you put a couple of outriggers on it as well. I'm impressed!!! IF U CAN THINK IT YOU CAN BUILD IT!!!! RIGHT ON!!! .. P.S. the most fun was following my dad's big boat to Catalina!!! If you ever get stumped??? I've got many ideas!!! Good luck 👍
That's right love the enthusiasm! Will defintely get stumped im sure lol
Oh my god that’s a silver matrix you were using to tow! That was the first car my father bought me almost 20 years ago!
Still using the Matrix to tow my boat around 🤣
@@DanDanFleek my father and I did many things with that silver matrix, traveling to SF the fist time, sleeping in the car, but never thought it’s capable of towing. When I sold her to my shipmate in the navy at 220k miles, she drove it to Taxes with no problem, he told me that it will run forever. It has such a sentimental value to me.
Brother your video actually makes me cry because you have the most precious thing in the whole world, going out to the sea with your old man! I would give up everything for that if times can bring my father back 😢. I have missed all the opportunities to do that with him. Now I have a boat , he’s not with us anymore. You, are the luckiest son on the whole planet, and I can see that he’s very much so proud of you! Boating, fishing, Spearfishing, camping, man to man time! Thank you for your video!
John, thanks for the touching comment. This is what life is about I believe and I am blessed to be able to share this experience with my dad. Your dad will always be with you in spirit so get out there with your boat and get some fish! Thanks again man
I can’t help to be so jealous and regret. I have a military rib boat that can stand a lot of wind and wave, I am seasonal spearo, hit me up when you want to do it again with your father, let’s go spear some yellowtail or WSB. By the way what’s the model of the inflatable kayak?
What size anchor how much chain did you have, how much was the camping, how much fuel did you average speed
anchor wasnt that big. Probably ten feet of chain which i need more of, camping i think is 20$ a night, and the fuel was bad because the old motor but i think it was around 2-3 mpg averaging around 17mph. New motor will do much better on gas mileage
Thank you dude so you have a insta!!!! Love your whaler I had a few of your not doing anything Labor Day weekend come join me and some friends lol leaving Saturday coming back Monday always wanted to try fishing with a gun 🤝
@@blakelira7098 Let me know a week out. Maybe we can all caravan out to there
That guys my hero!
Ive never seen someone get so much out of so little. Im impressed 👏
I had a 13 when i was a kid with a Johnson 50. I always wanted to fix it up like this. Try doing this with the 16 footer. Much more room
Yesvtyere is kess iunding
You guys DO realize there are great whites all over the place in Catalina???
Foolish to take a 13 foot boat to Catalina. Fun but risky. Looks like fun. Just know sooo many things can and will go wrong around boats and the ocean. Be prepared!!!
You have slightly missed the point. It’s the adventure with the calculated risk a father and a son taken. The benefit is far greater than the risk. They have proved that they have succeed it. Just like any other high risk sport.
Love your comment and it is right on. We look at wind and swell before going and are prepared to stay longer if we have to wait out bad conditions. Gotten a lot of people who caution me and I appreciate their worry and make sure to be as safe as possible.
Where was this?
I have been looking at a lot of Boston whaler videos and this is the coolest 13-foot whaler I have seen on UA-cam. I like how you didn't let problems stop you and kept Finding solutions. I think the most interesting one for me was assembling the aluminum tubing with the bolts instead of welding. I need to try that. I subscribed.
Thanks man! Truth is, I bolted because I’ve never welded and bolting was a pain because you’d tighten one section and it would alter another section. Just keep going slow though and it worked out pretty well! Still standing strong
Good video. I've camped there also, but we beached the skiff years ago. We keep our bigger boat in Wilmington where you came in
Nice man. Yeah it was definitely a good time
Interesting, I think I saw your boat and that enclosure near Los Alamitos area, and now here again on YT. I have a 13 also with a 25 and use it for fishing and diving in the same areas, including MDR. I bet that catches a lot of wind
Nice man next time you see me say what’s up. I was worried about the wind as well and It definitely catches some wind but I’ve been using it for a bit over 2 years and it hasn’t caused me issues. yet…
How longs the boat??
Little over 13 feet
Here’s a suggestion get yourself a bigger boat Jhc
Thanks for your opinion and suggestion. Hope you have a nice day.
We never signed up for this kind of ship! I would say the boat is too small to make the crossing safely! I hope his cellfone is waterproof...if you get caught in afternoon chop of 5 feet with any wind, it would make for a miserable crossing, especially returning to the mainland. Dangerous thing to do, I would never try it in a small boat, fer sure!
Looks like a dangerous pos amazing the coast guard doesn’t haul u in
I feel so nice, when someone said something beautiful of your country.
It is a beautiful country
Great inspiring video. Always wanted to take my 13' out to catalina from HB, but am afraid it might get too choppy.
It definitely gets choppy. That's why we stayed the night.
So awesome bro! I’m the guy that bought the 25hp Mariner off of you for my whaler. I’ve since upsized to a 15’ Proline and hope to make the leap and try the crossing next year. Just need to get better at reading conditions and learn the boat.
Awesome man! Yeah all about the wind and swell. These campsites are awesome to be able to spend the night to take advantage of the light wind in the morning when going home
@@DanDanFleek any special permits required for camping?
@@MrBigmike829 you just need to go on the Catalina website and reserve a spot
What is name of cove?..thanks
I don’t remember. We kind of just ventured around until we saw a cove that looked calm

Wow, lobsters in Cali?
Dan. Why not beach the boat to load out/in?
Could be a possibility but the beach was pretty rocky. Would have been way easier though
fresh pupusas, great empty waves and a buddy to share the memories with... doesn't get any better than that.
I gota go back… maybe this summer
cool videos!!! but yall forgot to check SilverBack which is in bocas and its insane wave!!! maybe 15 FT ua-cam.com/video/BLxlIU1fPB0/v-deo.html
Pretty cool, but I don't believe I would want to be on her in a heavy wind.
I was concerned about the same and got put in a situation where it started to blow around 15 knots all of a sudden with some stronger gusts. Handled well and I think it’s because it is pretty lightweight and I tried to make the angels to help with the wind. But yeah I don’t like being in that situation anyways and try not to be in the water in anything ten knots or over
@@DanDanFleek The Angels?
@@jimquantic lol meant angles
Next let’s compare 23L and 25L
Still using my 32. Pretty much daily for work and it’s holding up just fine so until it busts, I’m just gonna keep on using it.
Learn to sail bro , you will never miss your power boat , believe me .
I have been on both, even fishing offshore on a sail boat. But when feeding fish came up straight off our port--and the wind did not allow us to go that way, in straight line, or in fact, ever got us over there before the fish were one--yeah, I missed the engine.
