I realize why you prefer to import even the ground level as an image now rather than universal VTT after trying the latter option myself. Because importing as universal VTT makes the walls from the first layer go from infinity to infininty, meaning you have to adjust them anyway. Resulting in almost the same amount of work as just making the walls from scratch. Anyway great and helpful video, even a year later.

I do not understand for the live of me why foundry can't just give me a box for rows/columns instead of PPI and pixels. I mean its the freaking standard that most map makers give you rows/columns. So annoying, but thank you for clearing up the relation to foundrys scale in this.

Great video! I am currently planning running my first D&D campaign with Foundry (my first campaign as DM actually), and most, if not all, of my players will be new to Foundry too. So this video will be a great help for them to understand the basics. I would like to know what mod you are running for the character sheets, as you show a lot of what your sheets look like, and they are different from the standard sheet (small tip: for a beginner's guide it would maybe better to show the standard stuff that are not based on a specific mod the DM may or may not be using) But otherwise, very helpful guide!

The Summon Import Wizard has never done a single thing for me. I follow all the directions, point to the files, hit Analyze, and it sits at 0% forever.

It is actually the installation part that would be interesting to know... since there is nothing in the readme how to do that.

5:34 to 6:27 I think you misunderstand the intent of Cairn. The game is narrative over mechanics. The game is played through conversation and description. You do not make dice rolls to determine success of an action, ever (for example, all attacks hit and only damage is rolled). Instead, you describe what you do and how you do it, and the Warden determines if this is sensible or not. If it's sensible, it happens. A warden might decide that you simply cannot sneak past a guard dog, which is perfectly realistic, and the game says for difficulty, you should default to realism. You only roll saving throws, less than or equal to your abilities, to avoid harm.

Great summary of Shadowdark casting! just one small correction: the Bard's Magical Dabbler ability specifies that they roll a wizard mishap if they critically fail to cast a spell using a scroll or wand.

The best spell casting system in my mind is from Genesys. Plus, the ability to create narrative game play with the advantages / triumphs etc make the game far more interesting. (Only responding you comment about being one of the best magic systems). Other than that, I do love shadowdark.

Only if you care about having unlimited storage, not being held at the whims of an online server, and not being slowly bled dry, while having to pay monthly for a product you already own and could otherwise run for free...

You started to lose me at "rolling under is not intuitive to D&D players who want to see big numbers" and lost me completely at the difficulty levels. You're rolling a SAVE, not a skill check. The whole point is that there's a threat you're trying to avoid. If there's no threat (passed out drunk guard), you're not rolling at all, unless your players do something that MAKES IT a threat (sneaking past while escorting a struggling prisoner they're kidnapping from the palace). In OSR games you're not supposed to roll for everything, if the players have a good idea or ask the right question, they just succeed. If you really feel you need more granularity, add advantage/disadvantage mechanic on saves and you're all set.

5:53 ridiculous, sneaking past a passed-out guard shouldn't require a roll at all. At the same time, sneaking past a guard dog could just be a roll with disadvantage - roll 2d20 and beat 13 (or whatever your DEX is) on both. Easy!

Do I need to leave Foundry installed on my device if I have done this?

The "cutting the throat of a helpless foe" is an auto-kill even in D&D 5E - Firstly that's why you have DMs to adjudicate unusual situations, secondly that specific situation is noted as "this will kill you" is the outcome rules as written suggests. Can't believe I'm defending 5E, but that example was not a good one.
