CAN OPTIMUS PRIME HELP ME REMEMBER TRANSFORMATION MATRICES? | LESSON 10 ON MATRICES
Can Optimus Prime Help Me Remember Transformation Matrices?
Many people love the movie series transformers. No stranger to this movie is Optimus Prime. Take a look at this video and see how we use Optimus Prime as a way of understanding transformation matrices.
This side of matrices requires you to know how to multiply matrices and how to find the inverse of matrices.
The objective in this lesson is to:
1. Determine the image of an object, under a given transformation.
2. Determine the transformation matrix that maps P onto P'.
3. Determine the variables of a transformation matrix when the coordinates of the object and image are given.
I do hope you find this CSEC Mathematics lesson helpful and that your understanding of matrices will begin to improve as we go along this series!

    Good morning. This does not make sense to me. Lami"s Theorem is based on 3 Forces in equilibrium. This question would have 4 forces as the vertical string would also have a tension in it. This makes 4 forces in equilibrium so Lami's cannot apply. Am I seeing the question incorrectly?

    • @conlloydgumbsmaths
      @conlloydgumbsmaths 7 місяців тому

      The description for the question made this a bit confusing.The question provided the diagram which shows that they indeed wanted to have some demonstration of Lami's Theorem, thus only wanted 3 forces. I suspect the diagram was made and then words were created to tell a story to make it an "applied" question that tests the use of Lami's Theorem worth 9 marks. Therefore, it is clear that was the intention, so what would throw off an examinee is the description. Just imagine trying to draw this without the diagram? The description for sure would make all of us draw it with 4 lines, thus thinking of 4 forces. Now when we look at the description, it says that "the clock is held in place....by a force T". The important part here is that the clock, although it has its force due to gravity (FORCE 1) and the 15 N (FORCE 2) pulling it horizontally, there is a force T (FORCE 3) that "holds" it in place. This implies that although the string is there, all the force is acting on force T, which keeps it in equilibrium. Think of force T as a rod or something and think of the system in in the sense of just those three forces are the real forces in equilibrium and the string (light string) is just attached, but not load bearing, as force T is doing that. So in other words, if we were to cut the light string, since force T is the real "holder" and it is in equilibrium with the other forces, the string serves no purpose there and if it contributed to any force, it is too small to make any impact to the overall system. Similar to if an ant was to be sitting on the clock, how much kgs would it really contribute to impact the 40N? The fact that all of this needs to be thought of in such a light, shows that the phrase "with the light inextensible string remaining vertical" was uncalled for in an exam condition. However, it may have been initially thought of somewhat of a way to show that there was an angle coming from the vertical, which was demonstrated by the line string, but it opens room for confusion. It would have been better to consider the force at T as the string, which was then moved at an angle from the vertical by a 15N force. This is how this question is typically asked. Thus, what you said is valid. We can see 3 forces on the diagram and the vertical dotted line you see, is just to show where the vertical is, so we could figure out where the angle is coming from. This had the makings of being a really good question. Nonetheless, if they had to do it based on their diagram to make it a bit clearer, what they really had to say was: "The following diagram shows a clock, weighing 40 N, that is suspended from a ceiling by a light inextensible string at a point T. There is a horizontal force with magnitude 15 N acting on the clock. The clock is held in place with the light inextensible string, which makes an angle of θ degrees to the vertical. Just for reference, if there are any questions that are invalid in an exam or not in line with the syllabus, during the marking cycle it would have to be removed or the marks just awarded, whatever stance they take. Hope this helps.
