Tell me - what would you like to be able to do better? What would help you be more successful? Maybe I'll be inspired to do one in response to your ideas.

    What would you recommend if I wanted to focus on 1 main topic? In a conversation or video I feel like it’s unnatural for me to say I’m going to talk about 3 things. How would I structure it in that case?

    • @francisjee
      @francisjee 3 місяці тому

      Hi Jake, 1. Your point about feeling it is unnatural is common amongst my learners who are just starting out. And of course it feels unnatural as it is not something you would usually do, or prefer to do. A little like crossing your arms - if you do it with the other arm on top. I am quite certain your listeners would not notice it as unnatural. 2. As you are practicing and getting this to be an automatic approach toward speaking off the cuff, keeping the numbering in place. This is to help your brain stay organised. Once it is a habit and part of the way you speak, you can if you choose to, omit the numbering. When I am inclined to keep things open ended, I might say "there are a number of/several issues that are relevant here" and then reel off whatever topics that come to mind. 3. I hear your point that you wish to only speak on one topic. If the single topic is not complex, then just say "The key/main thing here is . . ." and explain or expound. If it starts to get complex, it is still not to late to say something like "Let me break it down for you - the 3 key issues that are germane to this argument are: 1. <>, 2. <> & 3. <>. I hope that helps. Let me know what you thnk

      @JakeGrows 3 місяці тому

      @@francisjee Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed response Francis I really appreciate it! I’ll definitely focus on getting the reps in with it to get it to feel more natural and pivot from there. I’ll also try the “one main idea here” for the topic. I make videos around 5 minutes any tips on how to frame my thinking it make a point within that time?

    • @francisjee
      @francisjee 3 місяці тому

      @@JakeGrows - I must first confess that making videos is not something a do very much of. Having said that, I have done a lot of work on VILT (virtual instructor led training). My go-to approach is: 1. Analyse the audience, or empathise with the audience. What do they want - the one thing? How do I want them to feel after my 5-minute video? What is THE question, their question!? What action do I want them to take, what behaviour or habit do I want them to change? 2. Start your 5 minutes with a hook - catch their interest. And this is usually something from #1. above. If you start with a question, frame the question such that they will say YES! (e.g. Do you want to retire young and rich?) 3. Use the cloud-diagramme framework to deliver your content so that it is easy to understand AND easy to remember. 4. Finish strong, clear and succinctly by returning to your hook in #2. above + a call to action (so no bait-n-switch 😅). Leave them with the desired feeling - inspired, empowered, excited, reflective etc. If you send me a draft of the video, I'll give you some feedback - for FREE. p/s I should learn how to do videos from you! 😅

In regards to the feedback I uploaded a video recently and any feedback would be greatly appreciated but only if you have the time don’t feel like you need to I appreciate all the help you’ve give all ready thank you!💪

    • @francisjee
      @francisjee 3 місяці тому

      I am delighted you found the video helpful for you. As for how to structure your thoughts when you are talking about the topics - the way to think about it is as though you are having a conversation with someone in a coffee shop and your conversation has taken you to a topic. Just chat about it. You were the one who decide/chose the topic. Just say however much or little that you can about the topic. you will be surprised what your right brain can dredge up from the recesses of your mind and bring it into the 'conversation'.

    I saw a foreigner who wrote the question : what is Kuching? Therefore, in your focus, you must include definitions, two possibilities, 1. The animal that miaus and is a destructive creature which should not be allowed into the house as it carry illnesses with it. e. g. If a woman is pregnant and keeps the Kuching in the house, there is a high probability that the child could be born deformed and of Special needs. Please see the Harvard Faculty of Medicine research paper on the dangers of illnesses cat borne. 2. If we are talking about the geographical location called Kuching, in the State of Sarawak, we now have an interesting place to visit. Why? 1. The People are nice, with beautiful hearts, inherited from tradition, cultural tinges, and their religious beliefs. 2. Historical events. Geographical outstanding locations, fishing and canoeing, other outdoor activities such as mountain climbing, etc. Food, because it is so delicious, we should practice restrain, unless you want to be Gemok!

      @@francisjeenot op, but I can hazard a guess. Probably clarity. Clarity is so, so valuable, for those of us who struggle to articulate, for who always overthinks. This is the antidote.

    • @francisjee
      @francisjee 6 місяців тому

      @@crix_h3eadshotgg992 To make a finer distinction, clarity is the experience or the feeling. What the 'template' structure does is that it removes the brain overload that comes from processing the question, processing possible responses, processing decision making, processing to keep all of that in short term memory, processing output, and processing the emotional load (if you are stressed or nervous). This approach gives an intuitive structure for storing and retrieval - important for speaking off the cuff, and the time compression prevents paralysis by analysis (using editing to refine instead; which is easier)

    • @francisjee
      @francisjee 7 місяців тому

      You can certainly add on more branches/topics. I could recommend no more than 5. It just get harder to keep track of the topics and manage your time budgets. One way to cover more topics is to cluster them in to 3 main topic headers. Then you can explore the sub-topics when covering the main topic. I hope that helps
