Endocrine System
Prof. Rivera-Mitu discussed the endocrine system, focusing on the hypothalamus, pituitary glands, and their roles in hormone release and regulation. She also explained the functions of various hormones, including antidiuretic hormone, oxytocin, thyroid-stimulating hormone, cortisol, aldosterone, growth hormone, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and melatonin. She also emphasized the importance of calcium in the body and the role of the parathyroid gland.
She discussed the role of hormones in regulating metabolism, cognition, temperature, heart rate, and skin health. She explained that hypothyroidism, characterized by a slow metabolism, can lead to sluggish thinking, excessive sleepiness, cold intolerance, and dry, coarse skin. Conversely, hyperthyroidism, with a fast metabolism, can cause racing thoughts, insomnia, heat intolerance, palpitations, and thinning hair. Prof. Rivera-Mitu also touched on the possibility of autoimmune diseases affecting the thyroid gland, either by destroying it or overstimulating it, leading to either hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.

Thank you professor.
I have been diagnosed with A-Fib and now embarking on a journey to learn as much as I can starting with learning how to read EKG’s and have budgeted two hours a day of study. UA-cam is awesome.
This is great learning. I’ve never seen anyone else do this.

Thanks
