Maybe it's just cause I've been playing a new game every day on stream for well over a year, but my barometer for bad games has really changed. This one has a plot that it passionate about and sure it's gameplay-lite but I am bad at games so I really didn't mind and found it a fun occasional change of pace from the narrative heavy gameplay. But I'm curious as to what in particular you didn't like? Like actually curious not just saying lolol

@@youtubecensors5419 😂 I'm a human bro. And I thought it wasn't half bad tbh, sure the rhythm sections were a little lack luster but overall it was okay.

i try and put out a 3-5 min "Quick Review" every weekday, so it being 4 min just is sorta the format for the niche i'm trying to fill. However, to saying i'm lying about a topic thats purely subjective is, like, i guess a stance you could take - but it sounds like you actually *do* have a problem with my ideals because 'shell of a game' is certainly not a way to describe this title; it takes approx ~16 hours to beat according to the user submitted data on howlongtobeat, so while its not a terribly long game there *is* a few sessions at minimum. I also show the gameplay in my video, there's story arcs plot lines game mechanics and even some mystery. Dustborn is certainly catching a lot of flak for its woke elements, but it like, objectively IS a video game. Maybe i'm misunderstanding you and you meant the gameplay isnt very well thought out or it doesnt feel impactful or maybe even you feel the rhythm sections were lacking or whatever, i'm curious if you could expand on what you think of the gameplay separated from the woke elements? also i just appreciate you giving the video a watch and engaging with me in the comments so thanks!

I am curious what this game would look like outside of the very strong queer through line, and just, I can't imagine a group of four people traveling together in the present or future not having at least a LITTLE bit of queer drama - even if *all* of them aren't queer LOL. But no, I just can't picture a game that blends rhythm, relationship mechanics, and brawler beat 'em up, and have that game be devoid of queer influence. but then again, I think there's two kinds of negative attention this game is getting; one kind is for having queerness at all cause thats very charged in the USA right now, and two for being VERY queer so much so that even I who recommends the game acknowledges its ham-fistedness. It's tough though because the characters they put in this world just sort of demands this 'level of queerness' so to speak and I think they certainly COULD have turned it down a notch... But like, should Duke Nukem have to turn down his heteroness? I think NOT which means I think that Dustborn doesn't have to turn down it's queerness. Thanks! Always afraid to put out a review for a game that teeters that line, but ultimately falls just short. I DID get a couple hours of entertainment out of it, so if it calls out to you maybe you'd just end up having more fun with than i would!

it's SO good - it just has this **really** polished feel you don't see much outside of Nintendo, and i haven't owned a console since the 360 so i rarely get to experience it and i think that impacts why i like it so much! either way i HIGHLY recommend it!

WOW! if this is true, this is incredibly scummy business tactic. I downloaded the game mid july from steam and played it a few weeks later. There is literally updates on june 5th, and june 2oth. The june 20th update is the 'full release' update and it states, and i quote, "We at Blankhans are thrilled to announce that we have just launched Coreborn into its full release along with the major Liquid Meadows update." nothing about THAT indicates or anything on their page on steam indicates they are stopping development - but you are right, if they have stopped development, that WOULD be incredibly important to put in the review. Could you point me in the direction of resources from the devs or other official sources that actually indicate its been shut down or what that even entails now that the game is 'fully developed' (if they did, and didnt just remove the early access label to call it a day haha)

@@Cycor Ye, it is true. They announced it over a month ago. This game is a total meme in the german gamedev scene, for years now and the way they released it while announcing the closure of the studio is just an embaressment. The Scam is even bigger, when you know about german media founding; They got over 1 Million € from the government for the project, with the only condition, that they have to release a finished game - otherwise they would have had to pay the money back (this is btw one of the reasons why many lowbudget Hollywood movies were filmed in Germany in recent years). So they had to release it before closing down the studio, no matter what. The project got a lot of attention, only bcs one of the CEOs is part a bigger youtube channel with connections to journalists and bigger streamers, who all did him a favor reporting on it or playing it on stream. At the same time, Enshrouded was also released by a german Studio, showing Coreborn how its done correctly (and it did not get the same attention beforehand from german media, as Coreborn did). Fr, after Gollum, this is just the next big embarassment for the german Gamedev Scene and we can only hope, it will just go down unnoticed. Very sorry that you have spent money for it.

I have been playing Tower Defense off and on since shitty old flash games on Newgrounds and Kongregate - and i played wow Vanilla to Wrath but didnt do much with game addons beyond Peggle - so i'm surprised I hadnt really heard of GEM TD. About the maze aspect though - I personally havnt experienced it very often or i would of gladly called it like i see it, but ultimately this is WHY i'm doing these reviews; it's just my perspective, what i learned while playing, and how I felt writing the script... to me, it felt new and fresh and a welcome addition compared to a set path. Something more dynamic about the placement seemed fun as compared to just being a tower placer (like, Bloons, for example. Which is fun in its own rights sure.)

big agree! but I did binge it in one day, lol - short & sweet, and hits that Portal fix.

for SURE! Thats actually what drew me to the game in the first place haha, i loved portal and to see a fun take on those mechanics drew me in.

@@HoganLong you're right in that I didn't discuss specific mechanics, as the review is generally more about the overall vibes of the game and with only about 20-30 seconds of info I didn't want to just pile drive readable facts about the game. I am always looking to improve though and I think you did bring up a good point about how I didn't do a great job highlighting exact reasons why this game was fun, but I feel the overall tightness of the controls, the fun and varried worlds, the art style, and the music all elevated it above the normal schlock you see with these 'simple' games that are often just badly skinned mobile game mechanics on the PC.
