Using OnSong to Control HX Stomp and Beatbuddy with new WIDI Jacks
#cme #widijack #line6 #hxstomp #singularsound #beatbuddy #onsong
The video demonstrates how I've setup OnSong (on my iPad Pro) to control program changes on both the Line6 HX Stomp and Beatbuddy via wireless Bluetooth Midi using the new "WIDI Jack" devices from CME. I have no affiliation with any of the companies or products referenced in this video. I'm also a complete midi "noob"...so if I can figure this out, then you probably can as well.
Additional items you will need:
WIDI Jack: www.cme-pro.com/shop/
BeatBuddy Midi Sync. Breakout Cable: singularsound.com/product/midi-sync-cable/
Apps needed for iOS (all from Apple App Store):
- OnSong
- WIDI App
- midimittr

How do you set up Onsong sticky note to switch to tuner on HX Stomp?

Open the OnSong sticky note to edit it, and in the lower left hand corner, you should see a link for "Actions". Click that link and it should open up a list of potential actions, and scroll to the "Midi" section. Click on it, and it will open a sub-menu, and select ""Send", which then allows you to set the type of MIDI command, the midi channel, the value of the command, etc. Click "Done", and the Sticky Note should now send the MIDI command you specified.

Thanks for using our WIDI Jack. In your video, there were two parts of operation can be simpified: 1. If you want to connect two WIDI Jacks to iPad, please do not set them in group connection. You better set BLE Role of both to "force peripheral", then they are ready as the peripheral to be connected with your iPad central. In your video, after you set two units in a group, once you switched on both of them, actually they already connected to each other automatically. That is why you see the led blinking costantly, because Beatbuddy was sending MIDI clock through WIDI Jack to HX Stomp. Also in this case, you saw both of them were offline on your iPad, because the connection occupied two units. 2. When you connect them to iPad, please do not operate on iOS Bluetooth setting page. Please only use midimittr to connect, this is the way to connect Bluetooth MIDI device with your iPad (not like normal Bluetooth speaker or keyboard). Otherwise you need to do two connections, first you connect under Bluetooth setting, finally you still need to connect in midimittr. If you have any question, please contact us on www.cme-pro.com/support/ or join our Facebook user group at facebook.com/groups/cmeprofans Thank you very much again! <3

Thank you so much for the reply and I will implement your recommendations. I knew there had to be a better way to connect these, so I appreciate your advice. I'm "new" to using Midi, so I was just happy to get it working. Thanks again!

Can I use a Pageflip firefly to turn pages on OnSong, and have OnSong control the HX Stomp with the WIDI device?

@@theemrsg in that case you want to connect multiple devices to the built-in Bluetooth of your smart device. I cannot speak for the connection of your Pageflip to your smart device, but for your smart device to your HX via WIDI, that is not an issue. Hope this helps 😊👍

Couple of additional things I forgot to mention in the video: - You'll need to update your iOS device's operating system to 14.2 (or later). 14.4 is the latest version. I had trouble connecting the WIDI Jacks and getting the "group" to work until I updated the OS on my iPad Pro. - You only need to use the WIDI app to update the Widi Jack firmware and configure the "groups". After that, I haven't had a need to go back into the app. - I figured out that the reason the WIDI Jack was constantly blinking on the Beatbuddy was due to having "Midi Out" turned on (within the Beatbuddy Midi menu). Once I turned that off, the LED on the WIDI Jack was always on and works fine. - To reconnect everything (after powering off/on), simply go into your device's Bluetooth settings and connect the WIDI Jacks. Then, open Midimittr and connect each WIDI Jack (in the "Devices" tab), and then OnSong should be connected and able to control each WIDI Jack.
