Service truck tour and battery charging
Переглядів 2,4 тис.2 роки тому
My first venture in service truck tour.
I wish I knew you in person so I could apprentice you for a few years, and help you along as a young man with my strength; and you instill your knowledge into me, passing it on.
Awesome video, really neat info about battery charging
Great clip, and Phenomenal safety advice. MUCH NEEDED TODAY!
What are you hooking the air line to?
Emergency air port. Which replicates spring brakes released. No need for the caging bolt. I do a lot of piggy backs for sake of speed I hook up service truck air to retract piston. It is handy for any situation where you would normally use caging bolt.
very informative
came here from Adept APe channel comments. Well done Bill!
Hello Mr. Covert thank you for sharing your hard won experience as a truck road mechanic and much more I am sure. Started my career as truck mechanic in Southern California in 1978. Ran many a service call on the Grapevine on I - 5 in the middle of the night doing many of the things you talk about in your videos at that time we will still running the old 318 Detroits. Fun times still working at 67 years look forward to going to work every day. Thanks again for your time to but up these videos.
So how many 318's service calls did you go on where all you had to do was reset the air door on top of the blower?
@@billcovert3473 You are right kinda forgot about that .Now that brings up memories of changing out striped blower drives and couplings !!
@@bensanders2871 Last one of those I did was on Hwy.36 in Lassen Park. Eat your heart out lol. Although I was not a big Detroit man I did a few. Check out my fuel system tester, it was great locating internal fuel leaks on a not running engine. I was a better Cummins man than Detroit.
I'll be sure to think about one of these text time I'm swinging around a BFH unnecessarily. Sounds like a good investment.
I just wanted to comment that after reading in the torque test channel that you're 76, and still do this work AND manage to do the young kids stuff without being clumsy or slow (even succeeding in uploading etc.) I think you deserve to get to 110 years old without too many health issues. Go get em
Thanks. Uploading I had to get neighbor to hold my hand. I am not slow, I can straight legged touch my toes, Raise leg over truck front bumper and tire as good as the kids, crawl on my shoulder blades underneath truck, work till mid night. BUT recovery time is a lot rougher. I stay away from brakes, wheel seals and suspension. Currently doing a body rebuild. If things go as hoped I will finish truck tour in a tee shirt. Should look pretty good. Retirement plan"D", marry rich widow.
Would be great to see more videos from this guy, great stuff
Thanks! I will see what I can do.
@@billcovert3473 excellent, been a heavy truck diesel mechanic 17 year's now, would be great to hear you're thoughts on it
@@niallcosgrove5596 I been in the trade since 1970. What i would do better if could do again would have kept my gym attendance more serious, concentrated on core, learned proper diet. Blew back out in 1988, had three shoulder surgeries, currently doing a body rebuild at 76. The saying "pay me now or pay me later" is written stone. Your body is your main tool.
@@billcovert3473 that's along time, I feel like workshop conditions are much better now, than the would have been back in the 70s but great advice to hear maybe one day you'll make a video on you're experience in the trade
Great to see someone who really knows what they are talking about keep up the good work
very nice I have my tools set up just like yours. The way I like them.
Thanks, I enjoy service truck tours, you get to see how the working mechanic thinks. Much different than tool box tours with shinny tools.
You should make a video of how it works 👍🏽
I thought about it, but just don't have anything handy to hook up to. I was hoping most of the professional guys would comprehend how to use once they saw the concept.
It was invented by a great man. Not me. Glad you are able to recognize it's value. Thanks
Great tool thanks for sharing it
Please keep doing the videos! I really enjoy them. Thank you for the knowledge!!
Well thank you! I got a couple more in mind, shortly.
a real mechanic !!! I learned from a mechanic just like yourself sir. Most new mechanics won't realize how vast your tool inventory is because of the clutter of them, but trust believe you have every tool you will ever need! thanks for the great tour .
You're right about the old craftsman cotter pin tool, it has a good bend that helps for prying. good video!
Yes, I have lost about 4 of them, the new ones are cheap junk.
Just came across you're channel, very interesting stuff, those tools have seen some hard work, and experiences 👏 great stuff 👍
Yes, not much chrome to polish, the man is showing some wear too.
@@billcovert3473 good stuff, I work with a few guy's at the truck dealership that have been doing it 35 + year's not much chrome left on them
Thanks for sharing, for air leaks I just use a squirt bottle with soapy water.
The electronic ears gets me in the general area, the soap bottle is for fine adjustment.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing Bill👍
I was viewing your truck tour and seen you also have some 12 point Blue Point round handle tubing wrench's, along with a set of Snap On box wrench's. I took those out of service truck. The only time I would use the box wrench's was doing some frame work. Great wrench but just took up space.
Thanks for sharing! That is quite the tool and impressive design and idea! Great history lesson and theory! 👍
Well I caught video #3 gotta watch the first ones now ! I subscribed thanks for sharing 👍
You should think about doing Instagram. It can help people find your videos...
Enjoying these videos... great advice on safety.. and thanks for the shoutout... Stay safe
Nice! I have heard that is one heck of an air hammer
You are fast. It is a good tool for minimizing body wear.
@@billcovert3473 hahaha... because I have my own channel, I'm on alot...
Great video Bill, thanks for sharing. Keep up the great work.
Neat ... I like the axle thread chasers.. I have never seen that before.
The OTC? They were good but short lived. I think they had to many warranties because they were being used as die's rather than chasers. I used it for the final thread cleaning after I had worked the heavy damage with the old style OTC thread restorer.
Great Video i work on heavy equipment excavators dozers loader and stuff
Thanks for your comments. This is a road service business, light duty work, it is where heavy duty blows out it's back goes in order to keep working. Protect your body bro..
Lovly setup
Some awesome setup
Awesome
Howdy sir i have a ton of big tools i work on earthmoving equipment 👍
Nice love that toolbox i try to built the ultimative heavy equipment repair tools collection 👍👍👍
Another great video Bill.
Very interesting .. Thanks for sharing
Nice set up do you have a part number for the thread cutter that you showed in between the otc thread chaser tools?
BWP They are into truck wheel end fastener's, part #M1942. This is for trailer axle thread chasing.
This is awesome and thank you again. Please keep teach us young guns.
Great video thank you again. That’s a awesome tool. What a generation to come up with something like that. So cool
You got that right, that was a special generation. They had roller tool box/work bench they made. Used ball bearing roller bearings as wheels, 1/4 plate tops, weighed a ton, but they could get a lot of work done on them. I was amazed as to their ingenuity in building their own tools. That is what i enjoy on service truck tours as to how the minds of the mechanics think in setting up their service beds.
Got sent from one mechanic. Im a fleet mechanic in the uk , cant beat listening to someones years of experience. Subscribed
Thanks buddy 😁👍 Have a great weekend.
Awesome content and great to hear the experience and complete confidence in your voice.
Looked like Sunex in the red box
The stud tool? It is a Snap On. They were almost standard issue in the older truck shops.
@@billcovert3473 The impact sockets in the red case
Really enjoying the tour ... Thanks Bill
You set the standard Sir!
Great video thank you so much for sharing. I’m so glad to see a successful independent guy that has been doing it for a long time on here.
Thanks Bill 👍 Love seeing what you use
Those older Mac impact sockets were made out of some good metal, they were a lot harder than the newer stuff and they never break!
I didn't know that. Hopefully that will apply to the older guy who runs them.lol
@@billcovert3473 😂 keep going strong old man , you’re kicking ass.
That’s a lot of stuff for an “oh shit” drawer 😂
Good video , definitely learned something new. Look forward to new content 👍🏽
Nice set up can’t wait to see the rest of the truck
Very nice tour! Awesome setup you have on your rig
