A Last Minute Reflection on Current Events
Preliminary load testing with Leverevolution, Nosler Accubond 225, loa 3.45”, and using the Speer manual for their 220g, but substituting out MR2000 for Leverevolution and following their same work up gave some surprising results.Recommend for accomplished reloaders who know how to read pressure and rifles that are up to the 60+ thousand pound pressures that are obviously being developed.
Also, read all reloading warnings and procedures in the same or other manuals, and listen to Mr. Obvious. He knows his stuff.
I've had a 10c since 1976, and just has started feed problems
I started looking for my first shotgun, and after hours of research, I quickly realized that the 14" Shockwave is not legal in Iowa. However, the 18.5" model is, with a total length of about 31" OAL (overall length). Then, I found the Maverick Cruiser with a 20" barrel, which is also around 31" OAL, making it just as compact as the Iowa-legal 18.5" Shockwave. Now, I'm leaning toward the 590S with a 20" barrel, which allows me to change the choke. It would also be under 31" when folded with a folding stock, and I can fire it that way. Plus, it can carry 13 mini shells. The only drawback is that I can't change the barrel on the 20" model. So, I might go with the 590S 18.5" with a folding stock since I can use 835 barrels on that one. Long story short, I'm still shopping, but I've already ruled out the Shockwave after the first day. I can build something that's classified as just a shotgun in any state, is not much bigger than the Shockwave, and offers a lot more customization options. Still shopping, any thoughts? Am I on the right track?
@@Thejohnnyoshow Only you can know what really works for your application. And it sounds to me that you’re looking for a “do it all” shotgun? I know Palmetto State Armory is offering a new shotgun that is very customizable, I haven’t had an opportunity to try one yet, and I’m not sure when the launch date of that firearm is. That being said, anything you purchase will be a compromise, because nothing will be perfect for every situation. My recommendation is to stick with the usual suspects like Mossberg, Remington, Beretta, and even PSA… They are all great companies that stand by their products. Hope this helps! And obviously follow your local and state laws 😎

I really want to buy a SKS ($1100 in Sweden), but my trip to Zimbabwe over christmas and new year need all the money i can save. Thank you guys for the video!
I like the SKS simple and easy to clean. I have had no misfires other than bad ammo that don't go off. It is accurate for what it is. A military rifle in the day it was made it's not bad. If I find a good deal I will buy more of them. Good to here from you my friend.
I like the SKS, they definitely have a place as a utilitarian rifle… Unfortunately they are getting more and more expensive. If you want one, there is no better time than now 😁

That gun will shoot either forty or fifty grain weights in half inch groups but for some people including me to do that I need at least 14 x magnification,,I can not possibly do it with six power.
I agree with you on that. I will try a flat back bullet also. I like the 53 grain V-MAX very will to, it works good in my other rifles. What scope rings is he running on the cva?
I believe Mr. Obvious uses Vortex scope rings on about everything, but I will check with him to verify. Most any accuracy issues we were having , can most definitely be traced to the ammo we were using… When we went to Hornaday superformance ammunition, the rifle shot very well.
@@lastminuteman thank you. Just bought a 35 cva a few weeks ago and have been wondering what rings would be good for it.
You still have the tractor? How is it ? Whats your likes and not likes . Subscribed to your channel and like your content. Sho some more of that tractor for us.
I still have the tractor, it has over 600 hrs on it now with zero issues. I highly recommend this tractor for a 30 to 80 acre property. (Anything larger would require more horsepower in my opinion) My likes are the simplicity of the design (very similar transmission and engine setup to a 1970’s Ford tractor) and the extra weight this tractor carries over the competition. What I mean by that is other competitors in the 50 hp range, are lighter and less safe in my opinion. The extra weight helps with the load the tractors is capable of carrying, and stability when bush hogging. The only dislikes I have are the limitations within this horsepower range of tractor… I am running an orchard, and a larger tractor would cut my work time in half. Bush hogging with anything over a 6 foot deck would be dangerous in my opinion. So if you’re opting for a batwing set up, I would go with 75 hp or more. I have loved this tractor so much, that I purchased a Mahindra Roxor as my UTV, I also highly recommend one of those… The utility has been outstanding! Everything being said I would definitely purchase this tractor again if I was in the market for a 50 hp … My next tractor will likely be a Mahindra , but I’m looking in the 75 hp range. Thanks for subscribing, and I hope I was able to answer your questions.
Man awesome review. I purchased a 4540 , got a decent deal on it and its being delivered tomorrow. I have 5 acres of citrus and fruit trees in central florida and the Mahindra is replacing my old ford 3000. Im keeping the ford because it has been in my family since the 1970s. Exact reason i purchased the Mahindra is everything you stated. Tires are coming loaded for even more weight. I figure them people in india dont cut these machines no slack and over there this thing is probably their jd or kubota. Might aswell be mine too. Rock solid work horse and old school with a new engine. Whats not to like. Really glad to hear you have had good use out of yours. Now just gotta come up with a name for it. I think “Dixie” might fit well. Best to you. Im a knife nut also. Love my blades. Ill keep tuning in to your channel.
@johnphinney292 I sincerely appreciate that… Let me know how the 4540 works out for you , I’m sure you’ll be satisfied with your purchase. The funny thing is, I was looking at a Ford 3000 and settled on the Mahindra lol I am very happy with the purchase. I have a CVA and it's a 44 magnum it's just like that one you have
The 35 Whelen is quite badass within its range limitations. I like that 200 grain Superformance Hornady load for deer hunting because it hits about like a lightning bolt! It is no joke that my blood trailing skills have been negatively impacted by that cartridge and load because so few deer even take a step after a chest shot! Now, it has a terrible ballistic coefficient and is a relatively looping trajectory beyond about 300 yards, but out to that range it hits like a Mack truck! There is just something about the combination of bullet diameter, relatively low sectional density with 200 grain bullets, and the velocity.
@@JWZelch I couldn’t agree more! It’s amazing within the 300 yard kill zone
I decided on the 338-06 rather than the Whelen for that 1 reason alone.
Great video but missed a major point when it comes to design-impact on felt recoil. The shockwave has less felt recoil due to the birds head grip forcing the shooter’s wrist into a better position to handle said recoil. The pistol grip on the maverick makes the recoil way worse.
@@Jack-de3sb That’s good when hip firing, however when aiming, it’s very difficult (for me) to control the birds head grip. That being said you have a different experience and that’s why we have so many options! Isn’t being an American wonderful lol Thanks for sharing my friend

I love my 35 Whelen. I have a H&R Handy Rifle with a 22" barrel. I have a load worked up with a 180gr Barnes triple shock & 3005 fps and hitting 1/2" group at 100 yards. SD @ 7fps and ES @ 11. It did take some time to get this load to this point and even had a few case head cracks (due to a few thousands to much shoulder bump) This is a really under rated cartridge and I am excited about it gathering some steam with hunters. It is a kicker for sure, though it is fun to shoot. Thanks for the video!
Part of the fun is working up a good load, tenderizes the shoulder a bit too 😁

Im pushing 250 grain bullets at over 2700 fps. Over 4000 ft pounds of muzzle energy. 35 Whelen is an absolute beast!
Poked a hole through a box elder tree about 13'' thick with my T/C Encore 15" pistol. The pistol loses around 400 ft per second compared to a 24" rifle.

@@bobbygreen2291 You are close! It’s a .223 Mr. Obvious was excited to get it 😁 We have high hopes for accuracy!
Thanks for the video, it was very informative. Considering that I've been trying to develop a 35 Whelen load with a 200gr bullet that would reach 3050 fps (that mystical 4k+ ft/lbs. ME) for some time now, it was humbling to see that it was done and reassuring at the same time to see that it was done. Great job! What really brought a smile was that I hadn't been using the Sierra RN bullets because Sierra says they developed it specifically for the 35 Remington (another favorite of mine) and because the 35 Rem. runs at much lower speeds thought it would disintegrate on an animal at impact with that velocity. What a joke! From your comments, not only had it not disintegrated on a 3/8" STEEL plate, but it went right through! Wow. Thanks again.
I run a 250gr at 2710 fps with a ME of 4076 ft pounds! It sho do pack a wallup!!!
@@capncoryspoliticallyincorr2645 Sorry for the tardy reply cap'n. My comment to Last Minuteman was only the 3rd time ever I've ventured into that world, consequently I misunderstood what your, let's say, reply was, because even getting a reply from them was a surprise. When yours was finally opened, the mistake became obvious. Sorry. It's very valuable what you said about the load you've created for 250gr bullets, because after developing a load for 200gr bullets, 220-225gr and 250 gr loads will follow. Is it improper to ask how many grains of what propellent, you are using to get that velocity? Oh, on the light side, when you mention the "wallop" your cartridge packs, are you referring to your shoulder, or the target, be it buffalo or bowling pin. Peace
No problem with the late reply! I will tell the rig that I have/use. I have a 25 1/2" Douglas barrel (1 in 16 twist) in an 03-A3 action bedded in a Boyds stock with a muzzle brake. Don't remember make of the brake but it works! I use Speer HotCor 250gr bullets. As for the charge...powder is CFE223 and I'm at the high end of charge weight. For obvious reasons I can't give you the exact weight though I would approach it very carefully. My rifle handles the pressure very well. Yours may not! You can find some crazy loads for the 35 Whelen in both the latest Sierra and Speer manuals. As far as the wallup goes, the wallup would be on whatever is being shot at! Unless you don't have a muzzle brake. In that case I would contact a good shoulder surgeon before touching it off!😂😂 You are more than welcome to get ahold of me on Facebook messenger and I can give you a bit more info. Just look up Cory Hoopes on Facebook.
Bought my now ex father in law this identical 48 AL. Beautiful and light gun. High brass hurts though. I bought it new in 1991
IMR 4064 is the powder for this caliber. Try it!!
I have the T/C Encore 15" pistol with a .35whelen barrel its a ball of fun. Also have the 45-70 and 22-250 barrels. The craziest recoil came out of the 400gr buffalo bore 45-70.
I've had my 460 Rowland modification on my 1911 Kimber TLE/RL II for the last 8 years now and am completely blown away by its performance. The round is very versatile and powerful and will give any 10mm or 44mag a solid run for its money. Amazing how accurate it is with the copper penetrator rounds. I do recommend getting the Wilson Combat 45acp +p mags since they'll have 8 round capacity and be able to keep the sidearm from jamming since the OEM 45acp mags will have trouble with improperly loading the next round.
