When I survey the wondrous cross
Some say, the most important and perfect English Hymn. Here's the story of why it is considered so.
I do need to apologize for slight distortion on the sound in my speech. Microphone levels were just a tad high. Will fix it for next time.
A big thank you to all who have subscribed to this channel.

Man of Sorrows

A wee testimony of my love for this very simple but moving hymn. From one of the most under appreciated hymn writers of the 19th Century - a man who lost his life way too early, but who had significant influence on American Hymnody. Philip Bliss's great hymn "Man of Sorrows - what a Name for the Son of God who came." Enjoy.

This is the first of my new series of "Hymns for Worship and Inspiration" in which I will be seeking to add background and some meditation on the message of these great hymns. Easter is upon us again.

The Ascension of Christ fulfilled the apocalyptic prophecy that Jesus proclaimed to the High Priest. - That claim turned the religious Jews against him and He was crucified as a blasphemer. Yet coming on the clouds and seated at the right hand of power, Our Jesus reigns as King of kings and Lord of lords. This hymn of Christopher Wordsworth does this glorious truth more justice than any other I...

Another fabulous hymn from Joachim Neander. A young man who only lived to thirty years old, but set a high standard of devotion and worship in His life and shone in the 17th Century German hymn tradition.

Hallelujah ! What a Saviour , indeed. Thank you Ralph for this great hymn of praise and worship
With great sadness I have discovered that Ralph Cullen, Organist, who played so many of our great hymns , passed to be with his Maker in June this year. He will be forever remembered as a talented musician bringing glory to his God and enjoyment and blessing to many who appreciated his organ recitals.

Not many standing up for Jesus...all our churches are empty apart from the black community churches..who love to sing in praise of the Lord, with joy in their hearts and a smile on their faces at the mention of his name.
I listen and singalong each night before lying down.Bring me peace some sorry having been widowedfor 8 months.
This is certain,y a splendid communion hymn and sympathetically played by Ralph Cullen
Ah, the beautiful and moving cadences of Miller's tune "Rockingham". Thank you ,Ralph
It was your performance that sounded in the last minutes of saying goodbye to my mother. Thank you for the wonderful playing.
Splendid playing of a great hymn of praise to our Almighty God and Saviour
Thank you so much for this series! I too love these hymns and have applied my hand to writing some hymns of my own. Surely God has given us music that we might return the gift to him in praise and worship.
I think this is the right combination of stops, well payed, thanks sir.
A splendid paean of praise to Almighty God by Chas Wesley played superbly by Ra;ph Cullen
The faithfulness of God is blessing and encouragement each day
As an organist as well this is a moving hymn that I listen to almost every evening when I do my spiritual preparation
That is a most revealing and encouraging revelation, On wonders at times how much the music and/lyrics affect the performers as they should. Blessings on your miistry.

Awesome wonderful and beautiful singing.
*Thank you Ralph for this detailed presentation on this wonderful hymn - which says it all about the ultimate price that Yeshua paid for us all!*
Great...but where's the bass part?
This side of the pond, the basses sing the bass part!
Beautiful
Brother, you're super players that organ
Beautiful! Just beautiful! Magnificent organ on a magnificent hymn of the faith!
usually sung to the tune Hereford or Wilton, but nrvertheless well played.
I know, but here we love Wareham. Thanks for the encouragement
@@RalphCullen It has a good base line & I enjoy singing along as I read / write music & play piano & organ myself.
DUKE STREET hymntune better than whatever that noise is! LOL!
Well we can’t always be expected to satisfy everyone who doesn’t know what the noise is! Just enjoy a wider education. 👍
WONDERFUL, Thanks for posting
Loved it! Brings back memories of singing it throughout my childhood and youth in my home church with a pipe organ accompaniment💕
So beautiful! 👏👏👏❤️

My Scottish grandfather's favorite hymn!
Beautiful playing bro! Grand finish. Amen
Great to hear you again Ralph. Well done ,!!!!! Dilys xxx
Preach it Brother!!!!
Where does verse 2 come from? I'd like for our choir to sing it but don't want to get in any copyright trouble. Thank you for the beautiful music.
Hi, Verse two is found in many hymn books. I can't recall, because I have many. No copyright on Charles Wesley's Hymns. Just sing amnd rejoice!!
Thank you for sharing the hymns of Praise with the You Tube world.
Nothing like a great organ sound and good singing BUT why the rallentandos! The pace got slower throughout. No-one was ready for the repeat. After watching this once jump back to hear it again and you will hear what I mean.
Amen!
Perfect tempo and registration. Great ornamentation and interlude
One more thing I have just noticed: you’re playing this in Aflat! It will be too high for most congregations to sing. Most organists play it in G; I use F as I prefer to avoid anything above D or Eflat. But it’s a great sound and you should be in front of a congregation.
Tell that to our church organist...he pitches the hymns so high I have to start doing Alfred Deller counter-tenor impressions!
It’s tough playing hymns for a congregation to sing with, and I openly admit to my own mistakes not being a professional or formally trained. You’re nearly there, but note my earlier comment about the timing error in V1. Also I tend to trip this along as if the time signature was 6 over 8. The big rallentando at the end is probably too drawn out; and are you timing carefully between verses? I fear not so there will always be a delay in starting each verse, because the music is fragmented and no congregation would be able to get the sense of timing. Count the value of the last chord and the value of the silence making them up to 6, i.e. 1 2 3 1 off and ... Good luck!
