ep15 one hectare - finishing laying the decking and starting the clean up
I ran out of recycled pieces so I am finishing laying the deck with some new boards. I am also starting to put on some edging/skirting (whatever it's called!) so the final shape is starting to emerge. Also time to start cleaning up a few things, starting with the old fridge that's been a handy work bench while I have been building the deck.

Some classic DIY: more deck building, painting and building a shelf/fireplace mantel. It's proven to be a bit of a puzzle using reclaimed decking in a new shape but getting very close now and time to start clearing the surrounding area for some landscaping.

I am still focused on deck building - finishing the footings and getting the joists in place and squared up. I also put in the first post for adding some roofing in the future. I was very lucky with the sunny winter days to work in while I get plenty of practice digging more holes and mixing cement.

Still going with the deck. Slow and steady but getting a sense of the size now that the footings are mostly done. Also planted a few things and finished the cladding around the fireplace. Mornings are pretty cold now!

I have been dismantling an old deck offsite that I have now brought out to the block. Plan is to set this up next to the shack as a bit of a bbq area and it's another good spot to take in the sunset. Still chipping away at a range of other jobs around the block. I need to pick up the fence maintenance as the neighbours sheep have now got a taste for our delicious grass...
ep10 one hectare - rounding up a sheep and starting on some footings

I arrived yesterday to one of the sheep from the paddock next to us having a visit. After taking in a tour of the block she made her way back to her friends. I also made a start on some concrete footings next to the shed. I am constantly learning as I do new projects on the block. Yesterday's lesson was that I needed two or three times more concrete than I brought with me. More work on this spo...

Only time for a few small jobs this week. I oiled the shelves I made last week and planted a couple of she oaks next to a repaired fence. We also took a quick drive to a local salt lake.

As much as possible we are using recycled/reclaimed materials in improving things on the block. Looks way better too I reckon. This week I put up some shelving made from some lovely reclaimed timber.

With winter coming and lots of planting to be done, it's the perfect time to hire a chipper and make some mulch for the garden. It was also a chance to make some progress on a large pile of cut down trees that were left by the previous owner at the back corner of the block.

Re-uploading this one due to the previous quality - sorry about that if you already watched it lo-res style. No major projects this last week or so, just some beginning of autumn gardening. I want to extend all the existing garden beds over the next few months so made a start on that as well as some pruning. Was great to get some decent rain for the first time in a while - it's been very dry.

The old rusty fireplace and the wall behind it needed some updating. Yes, this was as satisfying as it looks (and sounds). This was a long weekend project, so thanks to the guests for the assistance with this and some other jobs around the place.
ep4 one hectare - adding a tree, removing a fridge

This old fridge (which may be the heaviest fridge in the world) has been taking up valuable room in the shed and had to go. Everything has turned yellow due to the autumn heat we have been having, but I am still keen to start getting some trees in the ground. I want to plant lots of them this year.
