Amateur DIY projects on one hectare of land in rural Victoria, Australia, land of the Eastern Maar. Gardening, building projects and hanging out with the dog
one hectare - all about paving (and a dog and corellas)
A visit to put some more pavers down. 200 bricks down on this side of the shack and I need another 200 at least! They never go far enough.
A hot summer day with the sound of corellas in the background and the boss watching on (only getting in the way a little bit...).
Thanks for watching.

one hectare - more work on the shack - cladding, painting and paving.
Переглядів 67314 годин тому
Finishing the final few pieces of cladding and painting the side of the shack. I was torn between leaving the wood or painting it, but I wanted it to blend in with the shed, which I think in the end works well. Also starting on some paving. I need a lot more bricks for this job! Thanks for watching
one hectare - cladding a wooden shack in the rain
Переглядів 2,9 тис.14 днів тому
After running out of wood last time I was determined to finish off cladding the side of the shack this week, no matter the weather. It's been scorching heat one day and rain the next to end spring and start summer and this time I copped the rain. What better weather to clad a shack in! Thanks for watching.
one hectare - continuing the shack wall overhaul
Переглядів 2,1 тис.21 день тому
Now that I have (mostly) finished the deck and roof, the rest of the shack wall is looking a little in need of an update. I'm removing the old tin and plastic, adding a window and finally starting on the cladding of the wall. True to form, I didn't pick up enough cladding so will have to finish that next week. It was hovering around 32 degrees celsius when I was doing this so that's my excuse i...
one hectare - finishing the deck roof
Переглядів 456Місяць тому
This week I finish off the deck roof. I decided at the last minute that I would paint the structure. A shame I didn't decide this before I started putting the roof sheets on, but I am happy with how it has turned out. Good to get this project finished! Thanks for watching.
one hectare - the deck roof continues - a day of wind and a day of calm
Переглядів 578Місяць тому
A little more work on the deck roof, actually putting some roof panels on which is nice! Starting to look like a real structure. I have been enjoying the views from up on the shed roof. It's particularly nice to have a fairly still day, which is a change from most of the windy days I have been getting working on this particular project. Thanks for watching.
one hectare - a short visit to attach the deck roof rafters
Переглядів 486Місяць тому
Only managed a quick trip to the block this week to keep the deck roof moving along, attaching the rafters. I'm quite happy with how this is coming together, even though it's a bit slow going in between mowing the lawn constantly and other spring time jobs around the place. Loving the sunny days! Thanks for watching.
one hectare - some spring planting and more work on the deck roof
Переглядів 1 тис.Місяць тому
I have recently been growing some plants from seed and it's time to put some in the ground. Hoping for the best for them! I am also continuing work on the deck roof structure, giving these post stirrups a try this time following some advice from the last video - thanks @OblivionOffGrid Thanks for watching.
one hectare - starting to build the deck roof frame on a windy day
Переглядів 4572 місяці тому
I have been planning an approach to a bit of shelter on the deck to eventually have a food prep area. Finally made a start. This was quite enjoyable and the first time I have done half lap joints so a bit of learning as well (also got to wear some wicked safety glasses lol). What wasn't so enjoyable was all the wind on the day. This also means not much usable audio so I have adding some chiming...
ep25 one hectare - some fence work and building a garden bed for bees and bugs
Переглядів 7642 місяці тому
I'm continuing to work on the veggie patch this week, starting to put some wire on the fence to keep the rabbits out, and planting some flowers to bring the bees and bugs in. Nico wanted to be involved in everything so lots of dog shots this week (I think this is really her channel). What a great pal! Thanks for watching.
ep24 one hectare - continuing the veggie garden fence and a bit of paving
Переглядів 5982 місяці тому
Slow and (sort of) steady is the motto of this garden fence! A little more done this week as well as some more stepping stones in the garden after picking up a tray load of free pavers and garden rocks. Spring is well and truly here now with the leaves all coming out and green everywhere you look. Thanks for watching
ep23 one hectare - starting to update the shack wall - framing, adding a window and hanging a door
Переглядів 5892 місяці тому
This side of the shack has needed an update for a while so making a start on one section - framing it out and adding a door (for easy deck access) and a window. I do need to source another window and add some more framing before I can make it all look nice with some cladding, so let's call this part one! Thanks for watching.
ep22 one hectare - more plantings in the veggie patch and starting to build the rabbit proof fence
Переглядів 4423 місяці тому
This week I am planting a peach tree and some other things in the veggie patch. I'm happy with how this area is coming along though still a fair bit more to go. One thing we do have on the block is rabbits. No sign of them getting in to any of the veggies yet but it is time to start on a fence to secure the area which will also allow me to build and plant some more low beds. For rabbits the fen...
ep21 one hectare - stepping stones in the veggie patch and upcycling an old cupboard
Переглядів 3673 місяці тому
I was given some old pavers and have decided to put them in the veggie patch as stepping stones. I need to do this and put down some gravel before putting a fence around the patch. I am also close to finishing off upcycling an old cupboard that I made some adjustments to last time. Crazy winds this last week so apologies for any windy audio bits. Thanks for watching.
ep20 one hectare - saving an old bench and cutting up a cabinet
Переглядів 5593 місяці тому
I found this garden bench as a side of the road give away and thought it had some life in it still so brought it to the block for an overhaul. I'm also back doing some work inside the shack, mostly cutting down an old cabinet to fit in a corner. Fun to do some demolition! Still a bit to go to finish it off. Thanks for watching.

Nice job ! i have done that too with bricks from an ancien barn here in France in my parent's garden. Where did you find your bricks ?
Won’t rain splash up onto siding?
Great job!
Keep up the great work.
Thanks heaps! plenty to do!
nice job as usual ! love the black color on the shack. 👍
Thanks so much. I think it worked out well too!
Your house do is beautiful 🎉 wish you health and have good manny video next time ❤️
Thanks for the kind words and for watching. All the best
UA-cam recommended me this video and after watching it I went back and watched all of your videos. You have made some amazing changes in less than a year. I subscribed. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much, I really appreciate it. I'm enjoying the improvements and the list of jobs never ends, only grows!!
it's an awesome job. It's looking great! Wkr from the Netherlands
Thanks heaps. Appreciate it. Hi from Australia!
good job ! better look for the shack ! rainy days there too but it's winter in few days there !
Thanks. I'm happy so far with how it's coming along! much better than the dodgy plastic!
Another window- fantastic 🎉
last window for the shack I think!
Always improving. Going to look beaut
Thanks! Hoping it comes up okay
Looking forward to a BBQ ON that deck! 👍
sunset bbqs!!
That was well worth all the effort!
Thanks! I'm happy with how it's turned out. On to the next thing...
Great progress! 😊
it's nice! I'm waiting to see what it will look like when finished.
Thanks. Hopefully not too long to go!
It's looking good, I've been keeping an eye out for an update. 👍
Thanks. Getting there slowly!
❤❤
It's great to see you take on the advice and tips, the galvanized post brackets are going to last. If it wasn't for the wildlife like the lizard and the sound of the birds, I could've thought you were down the road, it looks so much like my surroundings. The trees and landscape looks so familiar to the rural Cape Town.👍
That's so cool. No Table Mountain in the background here though!
Your veg is growing really well, how's the right angle carrot lol, you have to grow your own to be able to be entertained by nature. You will never see that on the shelves. I really like the use of the old farm implements as yard art, it looks amazing. 👍
lol. They may look a bit weird, but delicious!!
Getting a lot done. Are you planning to live there?
That's the future plan. I would love to be here full time. No timeline on that yet though...
It's definitely worth putting on the effort to keep the animals out, your garden is looking great already. 👍
Massive upgrade being able to see that view and getting access to the deck.👍
The bench looks amazing, looks like you got to it just in time to save it from rotting. 👍
Love the gates, I've driven over a hundred Kms to go buy a vintage oak garden gate years ago lol.👍
It's really nice seeing you reuse, I prefer the rustic look which has loads more character as well. I'm also looking forward to seeing how your wicking system does, it is such a clever system, so much time and water saving. It's amazing how much produce you can grow in a small garden.👍
Like trying to wrap a present inside out.🫣
Hello from South Africa. I found your latest video and decided to watch from the beginning, I'm already on episode 16 so that tells me that I am enjoying watching you turn your one hectare into home. Just subscribed and going to be trying to catch up, looking forward to following your journey. Cheers from Cape Town.👍
G'day from Australia! and thanks so much for watching. Glad you are enjoying it so far. cheers
Hello bạn làm rất tốt .
Hey, great video, I love the peacefulness! :) I am in the process of building a deck/pergola with roof and everyone here is telling me to not put wood posts directly into concrete as they will rot fast, but instead to use metal brackets in concrete to lift it from the ground. Did you maybe use any coating on the bottom of the poles? Also, for the wind messing up your sound, I solved the same problem by gluing a small "dead cat" on my camera microphone and I rarely have problems now ;) Good luck with the rest of your projects! Cheers from Croatia!
Thanks so much. Great tips! Learning is all part of it so appreciate the advice. Off to check out your channel. All the best from Australia!
Already episode 26 all in one go. It wasn't difficult to watch from the beginning, I was looking for more. I'm so glad I watched it all because I can see just how much you've achieved already and it looks like you are enjoying it. It's inspiring to see someone successfully taking on their projects and very motivating. Thank you for sharing.👍

I heard dog urine is good for the grass, shrubs and corners of houses. 😎
haha. I was going to keep her on for the company, but I will take the hidden benefits!
Love this Matt 😃 ..and Nico 🥹❤️❤️
Thanks so much! She really is the star of the show
Garden of luscious green vegetables 🥬 👍
I am a total convert to the wicking bed. Working a treat!
do you think you’d ever do a video explaining more about you? (i.e. what are your goals here, do you work outside of this, etc) keep up the great vids!! they’re always a pleasure to see in my feed
thanks so much, really appreciate it! That's a good idea. I take it for granted that I know the block so well! cheers
always a pleasure to watch your work in your garden. friendships of France

Really enjoyed the intro on this one, nice music selection. And the magpie cameo!

Nice work. How far do you travel to get there if you don't mind me asking?
Hey, thanks. It’s about an hour’s drive. There are also some more scenic routes and I try and mix it up!
