Fire House Custom Fab
Приєднався 27 тра 2015
For many years my dad taught me about cars, fabrication, machinary, and hardwork. Follow along as we work on cars, fabrication projects and have a blast working in our shop. My son and daughter will help out ( if I can twist their arms or bribe them enough) and learn some of the tricks my dad taught me.thanks for following us.

That's a pretty slick way to move that box over! I'll have to remember that trick. I'll bet it was fun getting it off the trailer, I've had a few "kids don't try this at home" moments too but none quite that size yet. Thanks for sharing, Steve!
I know you are glad to get it off the trailer and in it's final resting spot.
Yes sir. It was not fun to get it unloaded but it is set now. Thanks for the support
Sorry y'all, I guess I had the video tagged as for kids and the comments were turned off.
I appreciate your video! I had a small meltdown yesterday. I'm super busy and I've been running a bunch of inner shield. Switched back to solid wire for an emergency job and had a gas issue. In frustration I switched back to inner shield to get it done. This morning in watching your video you mentioned the gun. Like an idiot I forgot to check it, and it had worked it's way out quite a bit. Gas was flowing, but not enough. Solved my problem. Thanks again!
Man, that is awesome. I'm really glad it was able to help you out. thank you for your time and comments. Have a blessed day
@@firehousecustomfab3286 You have a blessed day as well!
Man that's hot. When 96 is "cooler weather" it's too hot! 🥵🥵 Those organizer shelves will be nice, that's a great idea to put them there and utilize that space. Balancing tires at my uncle's house, he just had a bucket full of weights, so you had to dig to find what you wanted. But he had a bubble balancer so you were guessing at how much weight you needed anyway. You've got some nice equipment Steve. Be safe out there, and I hope you have a good one!
Thanks for the support and comments. It's taken a long time to get here but it's slowly starting to come together.
Super helpful video
Thanks, I appreciate the comments and your taking the time to watch it.
Nice idea!
Having things organized and easy to access is essential. It has been warm here too for being in the mountains.
Great use of that pocket of space. Seems perfect...better than perfect.
That sounds hot...nearly too hot. Why are humans the only ones that seem to want to keep working, most other animals would just lay around and wait for cooler weather. ( You know...like the service writers do )
I agree, that's why most of my work now in the shop is done at night, or early in the morning. It's getting rough being out here in the middle of the day. I appreciate the comments and the support. Thank you
It turned out nice Steve! Planning and persistence paid off! Be safe in the heat down there. Hope you have a good one, Sir!
Thanks. I appreciate it. You be safe as well
nice one taking us through the process and set up thinking of how to hold and the next step all interesting for me as you say always learning some thing Cheers
Thanks. I appreciate your support and comments. Means a lot
Very impressive, well done !
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words and support
Awesome video brother. Man that looks pretty complicated and precise. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible night. Much love and RESPECT brother
That's a tricky part! Lots of steps involved.
Nicely done.👍 i’m curious, how many billable shop hours it took. I know you mostly did it for the experience and to help a guy out.
I'm not the quickest, but it took me 6 hours to make it. That's not including the camera time.
@@firehousecustomfab3286 the only way to get faster or better is to do it. Nice job. Pretty complex piece.
You're off to a good start! You're absolutely right with the order of operations, do something at the wrong time and it becomes 10x harder or impossible to do something else. Stay cool out there Steve! I hope you have a good weekend!
Thanks for the support and comments. I appreciate it and hope you stay safe as well
😳 Glad everyone is okay bc that could've been so much worse. 👍👍
I would almost suspect slightly loose lug nuts. Had the same thing happen to me and that was the culprit. I was able to pull over before I lost my rear dually wheel. Only one stud left holding the tires on. It would have been ugly because I was loaded with my jeep. It was on my ramp truck.
I would have thought that too, but we checked the lug nuts before we left out on this trip. And they were all tight. In this setup the logs are actually pressed into the brake drum, not the backing plate. But I'm not 100% sure. I just know it was a wild ride
Awesome video brother. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Much love and RESPECT
Dang it man, I'm glad that wasn't worse! I can't believe it didn't hurt the spindle, that's a lucky break, even if it's the only one LOL. There actually is a "loose wheel" version of that song, I have it on an old CD somewhere that was from the Car Talk radio show. Very thankful that nobody was hurt and that you were able to get parts to get it back home again. I hope the guy pulling that auger doesn't have too far to go, the augers I've been around don't have hubs made for high speed. Usually I see people trying to tailgate them so close that the end of the auger is hanging over the top of their car. Thanks for sharing, Steve!
Thanks for sharing. Man that was crazy. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Much love and RESPECT. Thank god it didn't hit anyone
Ouch! I hope my bad luck didn't rub off on you!
No sir, I keep my own bad luck 🤣. I was a blessing that it wasn't worse. Thanks for all your support.
@@firehousecustomfab3286 Your guardian angel was on duty.
Wow! 👍👀👍That’s crazy!
Thank God you guys were safe...My opinion is that generally trailers, caravans and the like when not in use stand in one spot and on its fully weight , not jacked off the ground. The bearing race tends to go out of shape and gives way when travelling at even a slow speed ...
This trailer, he usually stays in the road. But the bearings are at least 5 years old, if not longer. I'm just glad the axle wasn't trashed. You make a good point about the bearings getting out of round if the trailer sits for a while though. Thanks for the support and the comments, much appreciated
My goodness...praise the lord y'all were safe! Man that could have been bad 😳 That's moving on with an auger 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I saw it, and I told my son that looks like something Nelson would do, hope you're having a blessed day my friend
@firehousecustomfab3286 🤣🤣🤣🤣👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 yes air doing well!! Wait until till yall see today's bounty 🤣🤣🤦🤦🤦
Yep pretty crazy.😮
It's a sick feeling, that's for sure. I appreciate your support
Looks like a successful repair! I've never done any hard facing. There's a few things I'd like to try it on someday. Thanks for the video, Steve!
Thanks for the support and comments. It's an art. I have some more to do but hopefully I'll figure it out before I finish.
Mate i think for never doing this sort of job you did some resirch to fined out the how to in end i think you did very well and it don't look terrible all welders repairer don't like there own work i have never done a job like this But out of saying there are mig wires and different types of gas for this sort of work i do know that but for a one off job that could out way the coast of the job as we all know customers don't like paying for this stuff All up dam good job keep the video coming like your style of getting it done Cheers
I really appreciate that. Your right about having to watch cost and you are exactly right about the rods versus the mig set up for this. I appreciate your support and comments. Stay safe.
It takes a brave man to put his welds on youtube for all of the “armchair experts” to critique. Nice job 👍
Good or bad, it's my work. My name is attached to it. I'm not the best by any means, but I'm trying to get better every day. I appreciate your support and comments. Thanks
Man yeah Mr Steve, looks great for hard surface stuff. That is a very very very touchy thing to do. Love the warnings at the end. I was gonna mention that about the fumes! Great job my friend, I hope you had a great independence day🇺🇲🇺🇲😁😁😁
We did. I need to get a new pair of shop boots, the last two pair I've had have fallen apart in less than 6 months, and the pair I had before that hurt my feet so bad I couldn't walk for 3 days. But tennis shoes definitely don't work. Thanks as always for the comments and support
When we used to plow everything, I did a lot of hard surfacing. Gotta find the sweet spot, hot enough to stick, cold enough to not penitrate too deep... and run smooth. Seems like 90 amps on the old buzz box was the spot. I didn't think shears for our 3 plows, as well as many sets for some neighbors. I think you did it right, I would have used the mig for the repairs. I've had much better luck with it than any rod on things like that.
Thanks Ed, the mig did great to fill in, but I wanted to use my farm arc welder to hard face it. It looked rough but it has been holding up well. Thanks for the comments
Awesome video STEVE. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Much love and RESPECT

Good morning Steve ☕☕☕ It's been years, but I've run a stump grinder.. only work i did on it was changed teeth..
Our humidity is up due to monsoon rains so it's a bit sticky. Gorilla Glob Welding; sounds real familiar! That stump grinder is a beast.
Good morning Matt ☕☕☕ Already over 80° and down to 50%.. 🥵 they're saying 97° now, so we'll be 102+/- I suppose...
It's a monster, but it was a really cool job and I got to learn something new. thank you for the support
Glad you found that problem with the shackle. Dump trailers have a rough life, especially when other people borrow them. I borrow one from a friend, but I usually find stuff to fix on it before I bring it back. Hope you have a good Independence Day as well, Steve!
Yes sir. When I borrow things, I try to return it in better shape than I found it. But to be honest, the person who used it offered to fix it, but he wasn't the person that broke it. So I'm not going to make him fix it. He's a good guy. Thanks for sharing. Be safe
Man yeah Mr Steve, that turned out great!! Its amazing how those equalizers take such a beating! Your repair, is just like a new one!! Been there on the spare tire mount😉 Thank you sir for bringing us along!! Look fwdntonseeing whats next!! 😁😁😁👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hmm.. I kinda think you need a bolt and shackle there! 😂😂🤣 Glad you caught it when you did. Any idea how long its been missing? Edit to add: BTW, nice job on the tire mount! 😎
I'm thinking at least a month or two. The trailer has been loaned out several times, and myself and my son have used it for several trips. I had seen the tire rub couple of weeks prior, but was thinking it was the damaged tire that had a piece of rubber rubbing against it, evidently it wasn't
Dang it! Now I have to go inspect my trailer 😂Great video Steve.
Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend.
Fixed a few of them.. always fun 🙄😂🤣 Another job well done 👍😎
I couldn't believe how badly it was worn. I guess I need to keep a closer eye on them.
@@firehousecustomfab3286 I've had to actually make new pieces for that style. Seems like the cast Y shaped equalizers hold up better. But most are the channel style, especially on big trailers..
Good morning Steve ☕☕☕ Yup. Friday, just another day..
Hey Steve, that stinks about the oil pan and the blown cylinder. That's awesome you were able to get them both rebuilt rather than have to buy new ones. I agree with you completely on the safety aspect. By the way, I think of talking to myself as practice for youtube 🤣🤣 I practice way too much... Hope you have a good one, Steve!
I do the same thing 😂
Hey Steve, you might try soaking the oil spill areas with Super Clean for a few minutes and then apply your oil dry. It may take a couple of applications but it should absorb most of that oil out of the concrete.
I'll try that. Thanks
When it rains it pours. I've had a series of failures (all at once) around here this week as well. Good thing you have the skills for repairs like this Steve. Imagine having totally rely on service companies to fix your stuff. Oh, and no one else listens to me either 😂👍
Yes sir, I agree with you. I don't think I could handle having to deal with someone else repairing my stuff. I'm blessed that I had family to teach me how to do all the things I know how to do. Or at least think I know how to do
I'm on the hunt for one myself. Nice score Steve!
That is pretty cool! I've been waiting for an old Coats 20/20 machine to show up....but, there is so much going on now and things are so backwards and busy....I think I'll just keep waiting.....and enjoying your machine! tHanks for the video
That is a nice tire machine, Steve! That will be awesome to use, especially compared to changing tires on the floor. Good work getting her going again! Hope you had a good Father's Day, and I hope you have a good week!
Happy Father's Day brother. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible day. Much love and RESPECT
Good video. Happy Father’s Day. By the way, it’s 14 years old not 24😂
Yep🤣
@@firehousecustomfab3286 I wouldn’t be a true brother firefighter, if I didn’t bust chops a little bit😉
I completely agree. I expect nothing less 🤣
