Two Minutes of Backcountry Skiing in Mt Washington's (NH) Tuckerman Ravine
If you want to see yourself doing this you need to ski blue squares at the least. Black diamond skiers preferred. Don't try this without doing your research. Tuckerman Ravine is very dangerous as it the sport portrayed in this short video. Best bet: hire a guide. Footage by Redline Guide Will Murphy. Edit by Mike Cherim.

    Wonderful video. I have climbed South and North Mountains and have explored the Boulder caves. Last mountains that I climbed with my mountain climbing partner who died last August. Brings back lots of memories. A high school classmate of mine was also an observer at that tower. He passed away last Spring so this is a special place. I have members of the Chase family in my genealogy on my Mom's side. Thank you for this trip down memory lane. I like the atmospheric background music which is so fitting.

      From Google: Most Fiddlehead Ferns grow in New England and parts of Southern Canada, but they can be found in any wet area along edges of rivers, streams, and in wet, swampy areas, even in South Texas. Wet is the key pattern for them.

    • @RedlineGuiding
      @RedlineGuiding Рік тому

      @@sheriashton3591 you do want to remove everything as much as possible, but usually if stomach upset occurs it's because the fiddleheads weren't cleaned thoroughly enough and/or they weren't properly blanched to remove the tannins. I found this online. "Proper handling and thorough cooking of fiddleheads can reduce the risk of foodborne illness. Wash fresh fiddleheads several times in fresh cold water. Remove as much of the brown husk as possible from the fiddleheads. Cook in boiling water for 15 minutes or steam for 10 to 12 minutes until tender." I don't boil them for as long as this, though.

      @@RedlineGuiding ok great, thank you for the further info. I thought boiling for that long would take away a good bite, I think they’ll soften too much but, I will def wash thoroughly and par boil, prob 5 to 10 min no longer

    I went up this solo in early March of '22 and it was a sheet of ice the whole way, unlike any of the footage I had seen online. Really wished I had automatic crampons and proper boots that day. Several cats turned around, but luckily a group ahead of me had fixed a rope for themselves and left it there. Summit and back before them to ensure the rope would be there for the descent. A day to remember for sure.

  • @michaelmills5069

    Did you ski this line recently? If so, is the ice still pretty present on the route or is it too filled in with snow to be a good ice climb? Thx

    Holy sh*t that snow is deep! I've hiked Carter Dome several times, but always in the summer or fall, so I've never seen it like that. To be able to walk on the tops of the trees like you were, means the snow must be at least 6-8 feet deep. That's just incredible.
