The Last Snow Pile In Minot
Переглядів 87714 років тому
April 20, 1985, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - More a short essay than anything else, i wainted until there was only one snow pile left in Minot to do a story on the final change from winter to spring. It was a light, fun piece and a reason for doing an outdoor story on a nice spring day. Transferred from 3/4 inch videotape via ADVC 300 and into iMovie HD. From Keith Darnay's personal video collection.
Valentine's Day Poem
Переглядів 33714 років тому
February 14, 1985, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - Another of my short feature poems, this one tied to Valentine's Day. If you've seen the other videos on my channel, you'll have noticed a preference on my part for writing stories in verse and making the narration rhyme with the soundbites in the story. It's a creative challenge that's hard for a word lover to pass. In this story, I did break the rhyme fo...
The Wax Cylinder Man

February 6, 1987, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - I've had a fascination with audio recording all my life. I remember my mom recording my voice on a small, portable reel-to-reel tape recorder and playing it back. Hearing my voice was startling and fascinating. Thus began a lifelong love affair with tapes, wire recorders, LPs, 45s, cassettes, CDs, USB and MP3s. But I especially love the old audio machines:...
All About The Eights
Переглядів 56814 років тому
August 8, 1988, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - It was August 8, 1988, or 8/8/88 in calendar shorthand. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to do a feature story about the date. The angle? The number eight gets no respect in many aspects of daily life, it seems, and yet its influence can be found all around town. After seeing this story, one person said I could make a story out of anything. I told him I ha...
Shopping Cart Birthday
Переглядів 1,5 тис.14 років тому
June 4, 1987, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - It was the 50th anniversary of the shopping cart and, because I can make a feature story out of just about anything, I went to the supermarket to examine the current experience with and future design of the shopping cart. It's fun to see what people predicted the shopping cart would be like 13 years in the future the year 2000. Transferred from 3/4 inch videot...
Winterfest Activities 1987
Переглядів 47614 років тому
January 31, 1987, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - I loved covering the annual Winterfest activities in Minot. Lots of fun events, lots of people, lots of opportunities for a good feature story or two. This is one of my favorite Winterfest reports, mixing great theme music with the activities, interviews and a high "cuteness quotient." Transferred from 3/4 inch videotape via ADVC 300 and into iMovie HD. Fr...
Ode To Warm Weather
Переглядів 26114 років тому
1987, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - A short warm spell brought a short preview of spring to the Minot area, and it seemed as if everyone was outside, enjoying the respite from winter. I went around town interviewing people about the nice weather and then wrote a story to rhyme with selected soundbites. One of my favorite feature story poems. Transferred from 3/4 inch videotape via ADVC 300 and into iMov...
Young Love In Spring? Not Quite
Переглядів 22214 років тому
March 20, 1986, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - It was the start of spring, a time when a young person's fancy turns to love. or does it? I figured a good feature angle on the start of spring would be to ask young people at Perkett Elementary School about love. The answers made for an entertaining story. Transferred from 3/4 inch videotape via ADVC 300 and into iMovie HD. From Keith Darnay's personal vide...
Death of The Outdoor Theater
Переглядів 2,6 тис.14 років тому
September 12, 1985, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - I remember, as a child, going to the drive-in theater, packed in the car with my brother and sisters, loaded up with popcorn cooked at home, bottles of pop in a cooler and other munchies. So when I heard the Starlite Outdoor Theater in Minot was permanently closed and the land up for sale, I had to do a story on this cultural tragedy. Al Schon, manager o...
A Question Of Balance
Переглядів 20214 років тому
September 22, 1988, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - It's the fall equinox, one of two times during the year when there are equal parts of night and day. Supposedly, on these two days, you can easily balance an egg on end. Well, the truth is, you can do that with an egg at any time of the year. But I got to thinking: What else do people try to balance or have trouble balancing on this, the fall equinox? Th...

July, 1986, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - Don Harse of Atherns, Ohio was riding through Minot in his "human powered vehicle," a modified bicycle frame encased in a yellow fiberglass shell. On his way to Vancouver, Canada for an exposition on human powered transportartion, Harse stopped to visit with curious crowds and a local television reporter. Harse averaged about 100 miles a day at about 20 miles pe...

The song is "People in Your Neighborhood". Same goes to Tony's in Ponce, Juana Díaz and Villalba between 1979 and 2012
It’s 2024😮😮

Passin' Through is for me an immortal short novel to keep reading on and on . . .
By the looks of it and that shot showing the raised area showing the rail looks like the 'ol W.C.Franks @ Northport. ❤. Machines were everywhere at that time. Really liked the Baseball game at the nearby MiniMart N Broadway, fav place for the fun setting was the Show-Biz plus occasionally you could catch a North Stars game or ywo❤
This is my Uncle Johnny, my dad Leo Kallias' brother. Loved visiting the hatchery. I was sad when he sold it. Lovely Kallias Family.
Am still reading ❤😊

Damn, as if they edited out what he said about the untapped material!
Go ladies
Woo Hoo! I was Minot Codes from 1989 to 1991. That Major hired me into Codes. I recognize one of the operators, but, of course, i can't remember anyone's name. :-)
3/10/82…a couple 9th graders on our school bus snuck some of dad’s beers on the way to school and downed them before we arrived…they figured if we’re going out, might as well be buzzed when we do 😂
I wish he had done more like THE HAUNTED MESA
That surrey bitch is hot
That hot chick married a complete deuchbag
Military industrial complex is God here.
thanks
My brother worked there in the early 70's and when this demo was filmed I took photo's as well and after work hours that day I climbed the rubble to the balcony and grabbed the Exit sign from above the door to the fire escape. That sign still hangs next to my door in my home to this day.👍
You bring such a poetic voice to these stories, i love it!
Louis L'amour is America's greatest novelist
Well written and reported piece.
This Was The Same Year That Ray Combs Family Feud Last Aired! (June 14 Of That Year!) To Be Exact!
Do you remember an Earnest Harrell from around 85-86?
when’s it’s 2022 and most this isn’t even here today 😂😂
Damn...brings back a LOT of memories. 1983-1987...351 SMW/510 SMS here...
1:25 I think he's still looking
Now you can play them all on mame 32 for free no need to pay money in the arcade
Sometimes I look at my parents and wonder why my mannerisms and ethics differ so much from theirs. Then I pick up a L'Amour novel and realize that I've read every one of his books a minimum of twice, and his philosophies have seeped into my life while they've never read his works.
I AM A SACKET, SO I ENJOY HIS BOOK VERY MUCH
11 years on and nobody has seen this, what a marvel
Can someone tell me the name of a ride that's looks very similar to the ride at 0:32? Last time I saw it was in the late 80s early 90s. I know it was red and the cage seats would turn you upside down and if you had anything in your pockets it would be in the bottom of the cage.
Thank you for putting these videos out thank you so much it’s like a time machine
All these videos are great . Thank you so much for putting them out
"I can make them real without that." My, I whole-heartedly agree. So glad I discovered his books on Audible! I'd heard his name for years but never tried him out until this week. So glad I did!
One of my favorite authors.
One of my favorite authors as a boy. Loved “The Iron Marshall “
Nope it was pretty much exactly the same
It wasn't replaced just refurbished I was there when it caught fire it was also the last red and white checkerboard painted control tower, they brought in a temporary control tower from Tinker and set it towards the west end of the runway, get your facts right. There I was 82-93. This way old footage a chief two up that was changing in the early nineties. Plus a KC-135A landing this footage is from the late eighties
Do you remember an Earnest Harrell from around 85-86?
@@craigharrell7849 what squadron were you in I was in the 5th FMS
It was actually my dad. I was just a kid when we were stationed in Minot but I remember it very well. He doesn’t remember the number but he was in COM squadron and worked in the RAPCON.
I'm 30 and find all these old news stories fascinating for some reason.
Nichols electronics: mark ???: people in the neighborhood
WAS ALL A LOAD OF BULLSHIT.
When teenagers of my age were living their typical teenage lives I lived my teenage years on a long bench with L'amour book in my hand.
I wish I could ride out there, find him and bring him back home
Back in the 70s, Louis L'Amour was at some kind of parade in Colorado and my dad had me shake his hand. My grandfather was a fan.
