"Just Try To Picture Me Back Home In Tennessee" Harry Cove & Will Thompson I’m so happy oh, so happy! Don’t you envy me? I'll leave today at three for sunny Tennessee. Dad and mother, sis’ and brother, waiting for me there, and at the table, next to Mable, there’s an extra chair. Back home in Tennessee just try to picture me right on my mother’s knee. She thinks the world of me. All I can think...

    Is this an Edison recording? The fullness of the sound, at least to my ears, exceeds that of lateral-cut recordings of that period.

      It is a British recording, so it might make us wonder if the Brits were on to something better than the Americans that particular year in some recording studios on the other side of the pond.

      If it's a lateral-cut disc, I'm utterly amazed at the clarity of the instruments. I don't remember if Pathe was using vertical-cut lathes at that time, but this is an outstanding recording parts of which sound almost like an early electrical recording.

    A real 'evergreen' classic & love the number of phonograph/record ads you include in the slideshow. One thing I find interesting is that many of these ragtime instrumentals include another tune, in this case 'Ragtime Cowboy Joe' My recent posting of 'Down In Jungle Town' has a mystery tune, which no viewer has identified as yet.

      I listend to your upload of "Down In Jungle Town" by the Favorite Elite Orchestra--and I did NOT recognize the mystery tune. I wonder if that mystery tune is of British or American origin? The Jungle Town tune is American.

      @@timgracyk All I can say is its on a British label of German origin & pressed in Linden, Germany. From ragtime instrumentals I've heard, it seems common practice to add another tune, maybe to make things more interesting. In this example of 'The Ragtime Violin, there's a mystery tune at 1:41 Sounds familiar & catchy, but I'm unable to name it: ua-cam.com/video/04p7Sue90AY/v-deo.htmlsi=yd06gRRkpWig4ByK The record is a 'Marathon' whose vertically cut narrow grooves allow for extended play, when tunes/songs are longer. It adds up to 50% to the playing time.

    Thanks for the bio. details, its always interesting to learn how these pioneers got into recording. The catchy song depicts a rather 'butch' woman, years before they would ever be allowed to enter military service. • @timgracyk
      @timgracyk 4 дні тому

      I don't know if "When Reuben Came To Town" has a connection with "The Wedding Of The Reuben & The Maid." But if the wording is "the Reuben" it seems to mean a "rube" or country bumpkin not wise to city ways. LYRICS: "A Reuben from the country came to town the other day.You’ve heard of Reubens just like that before..." But it seems Reuben can be a first name. That's the case in the first line of "How ’ya Gonna Keep ’em Down on the Farm (After They’ve Seen Paree?)" The song begins, "Reuben, Reuben, I've been thinking...Mister Reuben started..." But this Reuben works on a farm, so he is a "reuben" or rube.... I never met a Reuben but I've met a rube.

      Export markets? No. It was a label change around 1923 and 1924. Until 1923 the label was a famous blue or well-known blue label. This new gold label with banner did not last long. In 1925 Columbia dumped this label design to go with a different label (all black).

    Minor details: "Murder," not "murdered." "Burg'lar's," not "burg'a'lar's," preceded by "the." His father "taught," not "told." I don't think it's "low" before "hell"...more likely "though." (Also: "hell's now...", not " hell is....") In the superimposed lyrics the spelling "Connoley" is given, but the usual Irish surname is "Connolly," without the "e," as given correctly in the notes and at the beginning. Another Irish surname is "Conley," as on the disc label, but that's not how Grayson says it. (The superimposed lyrics don't continue to the end of the song, for some reason.)

    The reason why people are commenting about “Chica the Chicken” here is because Squimpus McGrimpus used a slowed down version of this track in their Five Nights at Freddy’s VHS video “Sound Response Check”. This isn’t the first instance of people commenting about FNAF on videos about vintage/antique things though; I’ve seen people comment about Freddy’s music box on videos about the Toreador March and Regina/Polyphon music box renditions of said song, as well as people bringing up FNAF on videos about grandfather/longcase clocks with the Westminster chime as the FNAF 4 game samples the chimes of an Urgos grandmother clock.
