Stefan sounded stunning!
I believe the keyboardist is John Tesh
wonderful
at the time it was the first time that I saw a drummer playing single floor tom bass drum.. at this speed blow my mind
Nice song...
It is nice to have Joe Sample appear on keyboards. He is one of the best and plays the melody passages from sheet music.
Where's the reste of this concert? I used to know a dude who had it on dvd. Amazing line-up! Francis Coletta (guitar) is criminally underrated, if not totally unknown, only because he's not American. Pity.
It's college again and campus life is soo academic the only time to see this girl is when we walk to class in Chem Lab. And when we do, this song plays in my mind forever.
Absolutely great Tom Brechtlein!! ❤️❤️🙏🙏
You can really feel this song when you listen to it while you are cruising on Wilshire Blvd in the west side during the night time. Truly gem and I listen to this all the time
This is a masterpiece. You can feel its time back in the 80s when the music was pure and in its best. Love it 😍
Luckily it never came to that! Mel would have been glad to hear.,, that in 2021 there are numerous bigbands in the world. Bigbands will never stop to exist. No doubt about that! It is just too much fun and a too good music !! That fear is long gone .
third stone is a masterpiece
just transcribing "Velvet Lady" for smoothjazzbackingtracks.com, from Tom Scott. Don't know if it's a Lyricon or an EWI, Never tried playing one one, I play tenor alto and soprano, looks like it would be a blast. Loved the solo from Joe Sample. Someone gave me a cheap Casio wind instrument, but would love to try out one of these. The lyricon sounds great on this live version, very responsive to dynamics and vibrato it would seem by his playing,
Make a lead sheet for this and ill buy it. No joke
The Lyricon sounded so much nicer than the EWI or WX7
Checking this out after reading the Billboard book entry on "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson, "Veteran jazz musician Tom Scott received no credit, but played a lyricon solo in the background of the mix...Engineer Bruce Swedien recalled, "Quincy calls it 'ear candy.' It's just a subliminal element that works well."
Very well respected drummer. I for one always considered him a very very important drummer. He used Calf Skin heads and made them sound great. All in All Mel could play with any one. I first heard him with Stan Kenton in l956 and he knocked the audience out with his creative drumming. God Bless Mel Lewis.
Great to see Mel so healthy and youthful. Pity they couldn't use subtitles as half of the interview time is wasted translating it to German.
Supermarket music.
i'm going to buy the fuck out of some produce to this
fantastic!!
the piano solo is awsome!
Awesome! Brechtlein rules.
Love it!!! Love Dave Grusin!
Grooooove!!!
Very sad to hear Mel talk about hopefully living 25 more years when we know that his life was cut short just 6 years later. What a tremendous loss.
Who is the drummer?
Tommy Igoe with curly hair and tall cymbals?????
That hairstyle though!
What an incredible lineup. I still remember in the 70s when they has Jazz Fusion concerts with anywhere from 3-5 different groups performing together. And if you were lucky enough, sometimes they all jammed together at the very end. Can you imagine a show featuring Passport, Weather Report, The Crusaders and LA Express? Whoa!
drummer is nice UP 02
Thanks for the upload!!
