Impossible Pattern 500AGL Power Off

Can a lap in the pattern be completed with power off at 500AGL? The impossible turn is one thing but can you complete a lap and land in the same place you took off? Simulated engine failure in a Carbon Cub from 500ft AGL. London-Corbin Airport KLOZ Created with the #GoPro App on my iPhone.
Lap around pattern with no stick or trim

Second time practicing flying with no stick but this time I used no trim. Still not quite got the landing but working on it. The only time I touched the stick (other than panic before I landed:) was to key the mic. Carbon Cub. London-Corbin Airport KLOZ
Landing a cub with no stick...almost.

Practicing something new today. Flying without using the stick (no ailerons or elevator). Just rudder, flaps, trim, and throttle. Definitely not easy and I never quite pulled off the landing. This would be a great skill to have if I ever had a control failure. Also, I should’ve kept my hand on or closer to the stick when I was actually landing. I didn’t realize until watching the video that I h...

Carbon Cub - Epic Preschool Show and Tell

Got to land my Carbon Cub at my daughters preschool! About 20 kids got to climb in and pretend they were a pilot for a few moments. Their smiles and excitement were pretty awesome...my daughter was so excited too...but i think I enjoyed it more than they did! My favorite parts are when i hear my girl say "That's my dad!" at the 16 second mark and the "Go-Air-Plane" chants! London Corbin Airport...

Carbon Cub and Cirrus SR22T #FlyWithMeFriday!
Good passenger briefing. I've never received one of those as a passenger on a light aircraft. It's a great practice.
Why is he walking you through the maneuevers? Is this a checkride or checkride prep?
DPE Santa Claus. Difficult to watch. The DPE was PIC the whole time.
This the CFI that we all need 😂 he is nice, patient, and friendly!
Did you pass?
I hope everyone has a chick ride soon in Private Pilot watch this video and memorize every single word especially at the beginning of the video because this is mandatory to tell your DPE or Examiner these words, once you start your checkride❤
This is such a nice DPE.
I would of cleaned up the airplane after doing the soft field landing. And then I would stop at the hold short line, look at final to see that it's clear and then make my radio call. Then cross the line for my soft field tack-off.
I’m so confused…
Make a video doing that then
A co worker who was also a pilot told me he once took a bucket of KFC on a cross country. The folks at the fbo where he rented called him later that day to come back in to “ clean up the plane” he got everything greasy lol 😂
That would be great to have the timer start automatically .
The DPE sounds nice. That helps.
Absolutely awesome. My checkrides going to hopefully be in the next month and I hope I can make memories like this with my kids. They’ll remember this the rest of their life!
Yes! Good luck. Check out my checkride video. It’s a couple years old but might help calm your nerves!
@@martinspeterbilt awesome, thank you!
I hope my Checkride DPE is like this, super nice and helpful in calming nerves. My CFI has me doing much more checklist discipline, and calling out each step in procedure, and I am still working on dialing in my procedures and checklists for each Maneuver and banking into my memory and double-checking the key checklist items like descent, landing, shutdown, start etc. Good video, thanks.
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. No diversions on the nav part. Interesting.

You're such a cool dad!
Nice job. After six years you are probably flying for the airlines now.
That was awesome! What a bummer the battery pooped-out. I was hoping to heat the examiner tell you, “and that’s a pass!”
Yea right.
Very, very cool! Did you fly that Cub to the Bahamas from Kentucky?
I did. About 8 hours roughly to Fort Pierce and then a little over 2 hours to Marsh Harbour. Total trip was 2300 miles, almost 1000 over water, and nearly 30 hours in an airplane by the time i got home.
6 years old and still relevant. Thank you for the video. I am curious about the lack of clearing turns.
When I did my private my dpe wanted one clearing turn at the beginning and that was it. Just depends
Well the acs says you have to clear the area.
@@daviddd44-63 it's actually up to discretion as long as it is done at the beginning of the maneuver process
My dpe wants it done at the beginning of every maneuver
I spoke with you on the radio a few hours after you buzzed my wife and I at the Columbus Point Lagoon by Cape Santa Maria - that was a windy day! I love Pittstown Point. I think you said you had flow it down from Kentucky?
That pilot is world class right there
Great landing because of a great approach.
What a great video, this makes me feel much better about my upcoming check ride. I fly out of Clark County but live in the Louisville area. This DPE seemed very calming and just along for the ride. Is he still doing Check rides and what's his name? TIA
He’s no longer doing check rides. He’s been battling health issues the past few years. Good luck on ur check ride!!
That sucks to hear, thanks.
@@martinspeterbilt This guy sounds so much like John King from King Schools, but surely it's not him, right?
That's so fucking cool!
Cessna 172?
Carbon Cub
Excellent video, I feel less nervous to take my checkride, thanks for posting👍🏻
Thanks!! That's a big reason why i shared this is because I got really nervous and worked up for no reason! You can do it!
Where were the clearing turns?
Good question ;)
@@martinspeterbilt I'll never understand _clearing turns:_ make turns to confirm you're clear to make turns.
@@MikeHalk100 they dedicate time to actually look outside for traffic, when you bank it also helps others see you, therefore they can avoid you. And if that’s not enough it’s in the ACS.
@@daviddd44-63some DPE’s will want you to do a clearing turn or two but they don’t force you to do them for every maneuver
So cute
good times!!!

Just finished mine. 5.7 Hemi, 5.13 gears and 35's. They should have come from the factory this way.
Kind of makes me wish I was your kid!
Awesome
My dad used to do those Zero gravity dips when i was 5 in a cessna 180. Good times
Such lucky children 👍👍🤠
You have to secure stuff before you do 0Gs... come on man. Wtf
Haha! 🤘 they thought it was the best!!
It’s not space force one bro, chill out
Student pilot and father of a 3 and 5 year old here. I can’t wait to get some time under my belt to have days like these!! Dad of the year to you my friend!! Cheers
Awesome Dad!
a lot of thermals that day
Not sure how this got into my thread, but enjoyed watching! Looks like fun, and girls sure are having a blast. My only friendly warning is ensuring maximum passengers meet your limitations in the POH as well as certification of an S-LSA. Too many folks post on UA-cam without realizing they may be in violation of CFR.
Omg
Wow. That's some fearless young ladies right there. They'll be flying (solo) before there driving, guarenteed.
That was awesome man. Please be safe.
That’s so nice!!
I remember when you let me fly around the plane for my birthday, that was an awesome experience. Flying it your plane is awesome 😎
How much of a head wind to stall that slow?
Stall speed is 32mph. Generally I like at least 15kts of headwind, the more the better though. With 180hp and such a light airplane, you can get a really high angle of attack that helps to get it slowed down. Just gotta have a lot of right rudder! :)
Awesome video 👍 liked the 360 viewing. Happy landing's 👍
Great video!
F'n love this
