    • @creativephotofolk

      It's a 5D Mark III and it's usually indicated as an L symbol (meaning ISO low). But you got me curious about this feature so I did some research and it turns out it's not real - just an adjustment made in camera. You learn something new every day! petapixel.com/2020/03/16/this-is-how-the-extended-low-iso-setting-on-your-camera-works/

    Hi. I have a question. Well I can not figure out the balance between shutter speed and ambient light (because of finding focus). When I switch off the ambient light my camera (canon r6 II) can't find the focus point. When switch on the light I have , as you explain, motion blur....And now?

    • @creativephotofolk
      @creativephotofolk Місяць тому

      Hmm this is a tricky situation. I had my overhead garage lights on which were enough to let me find focus but not enough to add motion blur. I use back button focus so the focus locks to wherever I tell it to, rather then hunting around as autofocus tends to do. Although I would have thought the eye focus on the R6 would do a pretty good job. What I suggest doing is keeping your lights on, taking a photo without the flash to make sure it looks completely dark and if it isn't, adjusting your aperture until it is while keeping your shutter speed at the sync speed (1/200 is usually safest). Then switching on your flash. That way the ambient shouldn't be affecting the exposure but should still give you enough light to focus. There's also a setting on mirrorless cameras that mimics lighting conditions and it makes the camera difficult to use with flash because everything is too dark to see. I think it's called Exposure Simulation so make sure that setting is off in your camera when working with studio lights.

      @@creativephotofolk Hello, I'm supriced to get so fast an answer!. Great. Thank you so much. Yes, you have right. I investigate yesterday deep in to the night and find also the point "exposure simulation" That was an game changer, because now the focus find the object in quite darkness. 1 time more thanks for the support.

    Great idea, after reading the comments It came to me that instead of melted glue, why not use fishing line. I image of you also glue the lines together you can make more intricate patterns too. Must have a go, thanks for sharing

    • @creativephotofolk
      @creativephotofolk 3 місяці тому

      It's funny you say that because that's how the original photographer discovered this method. By trying to glue down fishing line he discovered it was easier just to use the glue. I am starting to wonder if maybe my glue just wasn't very good or if I should have left it to dry overnight. Worth testing!

    In one of his later videos, Lee had changed from a jar to a card frame. It can be kept and used again. I've made some frames from ice cream container lids. If you get a clear acrylic tray (with legs) from Kmart, you can sit the frame directly on top of it after you have sprayed it. There is then room underneath for your lights.

    • @creativephotofolk
      @creativephotofolk 3 місяці тому

      The ice cream container lid is a good idea! I was trying to think of some way to make the paddlepop frames like he shows but I couldn't figure out how they'd work considering gravity would eventually make the drops fall off and based on how quickly the glue just collapses.

    Thank you for mentioning about holding "control" while cropping so it's more precise. I've been using PS for almost 20 years and I had no idea about that trick! Hi Hayley. You certainly put the work in, which gave you great results. Perhaps food colouring would work, and be more environmentally friendly when pouring the waste down the sink.
