Lazarus - miracle, magic trick or something else?
In this video, responding to a sermon by our new rector, Sam, I discuss the nature of the Christian mysteries. I asked whether we should be thinking about them as historical truths, purley as made up stories, whether perhaps the best understood on a completely different level.

The Crisis in the Church
Переглядів 812 місяці тому
This is a bit of a departure from my previous videos about Christianity in the modern world, it's a response to an article in the guardian today about the crisis the Anglican church faces over falling numbers - but it really goes way beyond that. I wish I was a better vehicle for the message I'm trying to convey, but flawed and imperfect as we are we have to do our best to follow our calling an...
The power of the ending!
Переглядів 492 місяці тому
In this video I give a quick reminder to all musicians about the importance of the ending of a piece of music and I give a quick tip for how to ensure that you practice the ending as much as the beginning of a piece in order to make sure that you can play the last part of a piece as securely as the first.
The spiritual significance of information
Переглядів 262 місяці тому
This is the 3rd of my videos discussing how I reconcile science, philosophy, scholarship, and Christianity. It is an unfortunately long video, and it represents a fairly significant divergence from the previous two videos. In this one I will not be discussing Christianity as such, but what I will be doing is trying to lay the groundwork for what one might describe as a scientific basis for beli...
Why Theology Should Not Be Ignored.
Переглядів 382 місяці тому
This is the second video made responding to a recent sermon. In this video I argue that the church is in denial about the extent to which it faces an existential crisis over it's theology. I argue that if the church does not face this crisis squarely it will become a completely marginalised institution of absolutely no relevance to the broader society. I suggest that the answer lies informing a...
Jesus as I know him

Last Sunday in Church we were asked to share our enthusiasm for Jesus. Accordingly, I would like to share my accounts of Jesus as I know and love him.
Moving on with the minor pentatonic

This is a discussion of how to develop your guitar playing after learning the pentatonic minor scale. It is intended for someone who has learnt the minor pentatonic and can use it fairly confidently over a blues, rock or folk chords, but now wants to spice it up a bit,
The True Teachings of Jesus

In this video I try to outline the true teachings of Jesus, which are quite different from the atoning sacrifice of traditional trinitarian Christianity.
Functionalism And The Gods (Pt. 1)
Переглядів 175 років тому
Our ancestors believed in the existence of Gods or spirits associated with social structures such as city-states or nations. We have dismissed these beliefs as primitive superstitions that are made redundant and shown to be false by contemporary science and philosophy, but in this video, I show that modern cognitive science and the related philosophy of mind, functionalism, actually entail the ...
Using Audacity to prepare a file for the Boss RC 30 looper pedal
Переглядів 4,1 тис.5 років тому
How to change the format and sample rate of an audio file for upload to the Boss RC-30 looper pedal using the free Audacity audio software. This short video focuses on changing the sample rate, which can cause problems if you miss a key step in the process. In a comment below, Mike Jones pointed out that you need an additional step if you are starting with a mono recording, which is to convert ...

You are some 2,000 years behind. The church disappeared afte the Apostles and in it's place arose churches and assemblies of men.fulfilling Paul's words, "...For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. " Since then we have had churches of men and assemblies many of which have very little to do with the church.

Hey! thanks for this amazing video, helped me a lot. I just have one question, it is possible to match the tempo of the imported track with the internal rythm of the RC-30? I can't figure this one out, because when you import the audio, and try to change the tempo, it will change also the speed of the audio file. Any thoughts on how to do it? Thanks

The whole tempo thing is a bit of problem I find..I have a beat buddy and I want to synch them, but as I recall you cant set the.tempo to a specific BPM I end up having to tap as accurately as I can, which is great for improving your timing but not so good for keeping the loop in time with the drum machine. What I do as a work around is to record a sample, sometimes an empty one of the duration of a the number of bars I want at the BPM I want. Then when I set the looper to loop thet file it sets the machine to the bpm, or at least a multiple, of the BPM I want - but if I then change the tempo by tapping I loose the exact tempo setting. I don't know if any of that will help

This absolutely worked for me. I couldn't detect any quality loss. I almost believe I could fool the engineers with this.

I have to stop myself from trolling as this is a free site.My son says that 60 plus days of lock down has stolen my chill and made me like Archie Bunker. hahahaha So thank for the help but.... Would you mind showing how to use the boss studio? I will only ask that you help my add and not mention what not to do,just what to do. I had to rewind the vid when you got into 16 bit vs the others. The extra info freaked me out. Like when you ask you lady where she wants to eat and she runs down the list of places she will never go again. You get lost. at least I do. She says my eyes gloss over as I try to listen for the answer. At 60 Iam trying something new during this quarantine . I was told I can input backing track that I make and then sing along to them live. Do I stereo track one or mono stereo track one for the left and mono track 2 for the Right?

Hi, I will make a video about this, but what you are trying to do may be quite simple. You need to have the Boss Tone Studio, the software that comes with the looper installed on your PC (I am assuming you are using a PC). Turn on your looper (remembering you will still need an audio jack plugged in to the looper to turn it on) and then connect it to the PC by a USB cable, the looper screen should then display "Cn" (If you put the cable in before turning on the looper it will not connect). In Boss Tone Studio you should now have the option of importing a file. Click that button (on the top of the program and you will get a menu to select your file. Once you have selected it, it will ask you to pick a memory slot and track to save it on. If you are just wanting to use a backing track, put it in channel 1. The two channels have nothing to do with stereo, they are so that you can switch between two recordings when using the looper (say if you record a loop of the verse on track one and the chorus on track two). You will need your backing track to be a sterio wave file, and if it is it may well work without you having to do any editing at all. If it does not work, then you have to do the editing I made the original video about. To use your backing track, disconnect from USB (first using the disconnect button in Boss Tone Studio, then when the looper is running normally use the up and down arrow buttons on the looper to select the memory slot you imported to, make sure you have track one selected using the select buttons, set the volume you want fort track one using the slider, and hit play. I hope this helps, will make a video about it in a couple of days.

I create a looper file very rarely and always forget how to do this and have a frustrating time re_learning it. However I followed you post exactly today and still got the UF error message. Then I remembered how to fix it. Here goes, ..................;process the audio exactly as shown above and save it as a .wav file - let's call it 'looper1'. Then create a new Audacity project. Import the audio 'looper' into the new Audacity file. In 'tracks' create a new stero track. The audio you brought in is shown in a mono track. Copy that audio and paste it into the stereo track. Now highlight the stereo audio and save it as described in the video above -say you save it as 'Looper 2''' Audacity will mix it down to a mono file of course but the resulting mono ;wav will have twice as much data as 'looper1' and will now transfer to your Boss pedal without a problem. Go figure!

Thanks Mike, I had not considered the case where you start with a mono wave file, very strange that you need this additional step if you do but thanks for the info.
