The reading vlog i forgot to upload. Oops!
Definitely a month with high highs and few low lows. :D So glad you enjoyed Know My Name. It is my favorite book of all time. Even though the subject matter is horrific, the way Chanel Miller wrote about it is masterful. So glad I could get you to read it. :D
Thank you for picking it for me! I don't think i'd have gotten to it anytime soon if it weren't for you ❤️
Nice. I’m hearing so much about The Tainted Cup. Great description to help me figure out if I wanna give it a shot. Hope you have even better reads next month :)
If a murder mystery doesn't scare you away, i'd say give The Tainted Cup a shot. It's very compulsively readable, so it reads quite fast.
I really enjoyed the Hacienda, it was so fun. I like a hot priest. :D Happy reading in August!
haha, happy reading to you too!
I'm very excited for our buddy read 😀 It should be a lot of fun
Me too! I hope my hold will come in soon. I got a message that book 3 has come in, but i'm still waiting for book two
I’ve never seen that board game but it’s such a beautiful board!!
I love this board so much. It's so stunning! Thanks for watching 💖
You have a lovely way of tracking your series, Kaat! I am so impressed! ❤
I love my spreadsheets! My favorite part of finisheing a book is being able to update them 😂
Holy shit, that's a detailed check-in! I am impressed by the ammount of bookkeeping you do for your reading goals.
The spreadsheets and the bookkeeping is half the fun!
That's a lovely idea and indeed, a TBR game really helps to bring some variety into your reading. OMG, the board is absolutly adorable! I love it! 💖 Such an interesting tbr list you got! 📚
I love this board so much! I'm glad you liked it. 🩷
Hi Kaat, the game board is really beautiful! I really liked how you built the TBR game 👍. My July TBR has City of Rain by William Lejeune which is a chunker, We hunt the flame by Hafsah Faizal and The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett. If i have time I may add Yellowface by R.F. Kuang but not sure because i will be travelling so let´s see what i end up reading 😅 ! Enjoy your books!!
Hi! I'm glad you liked it. I've been interested in We Hunt the Flame for a while. It sounds fun. I read The Tainted Cup earlier this month. I thought the beginning was a little too fast for me, but that got better in the second half and i ended up really liking it. I hope you enjoy your books as well!!!! ♥
I like the new game and how the goose can effect you going forward and backwards. I hope you enjoy all your books
Me too! I like the bit of extra chaos it brings. And thank you 🩷 I hope you enjoy your reading too
Oh gosh I hate getting a streak of DNFs, I didnt dnf Hex but I also didn't get the hype 😅 I havent tried any of the Brown Sister books, I should probably give them a try
Yeah, as i said in the video, under different circumstances i might not have DNFed Hex or One for Sorrow, but wel... Chloe Brown is really good and i've heard the series only gets better from there, so give it a try!
Im glad you enjoyed My Dark Vanessa and The Will of The Many 😊
They're great books!
Looking forward to our buddy read 😊
Me too! Let me know when you're starting it
oh, Daughter of the Forest is wonderful!
I'm really looking forward to it
I discovered your channel through this video. Hope you have a great month. Happy Reading! 😎📚👍
Welcome! I hope you have a great reading month too!
Loved When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain, I need to continue this series! Hope you'll love it. Educated was such a great story, I gained a lot from it. Happy reading in May!
Thank you! Happing reading to you too 💖
Take a hint Dani brown is great. «Funny you dont look autistic» by Michael macrery is a great biography about autism.
I really enjoyed Chloe Brown, so i'm very excited to continue the series. Thanks for the rec! I'll look into it
Great video thank you! ❤
Hex sounds very good. Adding it to my tbr. The brown sisters is a very good trilogy. My fave is Chloe brown. My reading plans for april is big as well.
I'm currently halfway through Chloe Brown and it just makes me feel so happy. I'm really really enjoying my time with it
I hope you'll get to When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain, such a great read. I need to continue in this series. Also, sending you all the strength for Wall of Storms. Happy reading!
When the Tiger is very short, i'll probably manage to squeeze it in somewhere. I'm so excited! The Wall of Storms though...
The athenian murders is on my tbr as well
It sounds so goooood!
I agree I love quest stories. I also love prophecies and chosen ones. Really against the mold toreards the rest of the book community but Hey you love what you love.
Quest stories are so much fun. For prophecies is depends on how it's done. Maybe i should make a video one day because i think it's very interesting how prophecies can be used in different ways
@@thefairylibrarian3282 yes that is an interesting topic.
Hey👋am a non anglo booktuber. From norway. Read a bit of everything as well. Found you in Leandra sprints.
Hi! Nice to meet you. Always nice to find other non-Anglo booktubers!
With regards to The Will of The Many, I agree, while the sysem gets explained a little why things seem off, or at least its questioned, I hope we get more answers in the second book
I could do with a little more explanation, but i'm still loving it!
I only read 4 books in February 🙂 (and a big part of a Malazan book, but could not finish it in time) and my favorite was The spear cuts through water (4.75 stars. So 5 stars on GR). My other books this month were Spear (4,25), He who drowned the world (4 stars) and The Way of kings (3,5 stars) So February was a good reading month.
I've heard nothing but good things about The Spear Cuts Through Water. I'm glad you also enjoyed it
I'm so glad you liked my little short Kaat!
It was great!
My Dark Vanessa is a hard read but one I have read a couple times now.
I really liked it, but as you said, you need to be in the right headspace for it
Happy reading in March, you have a lot to get through. :D Definitely read Dandelion Dynasty at your own pace!
Happy reading to you too!! 🩷
My March TBR: Currently reading: «Brother Red» by Adrian Selby (Grimdark Fantasy, standalone «midquel» to «Snakewood» & «The Winter Road», had planned to do it last year, but had to push it back) «Judas Blossom» by Stephen Aryan (Fantasy inspired by the Mongol Conquest of Persia, same as «Brother Red» pushed over from last year) I will also start on the «City of Victory» Trilogy by Adrian Goldsworthy (Historical Military Fiction set during Emperor Trajan’s Campaigns) and the «Lyonesse» Trilogy by Jack Vance ((Pre-)Arthurian Fantasy). I plan to read one book each of the two trilogies over the Spring Months: The first books in March, the second books in April and the final books in May. My Spring TBR/March MBR: «After Rome» by Morgan Llywelyn (Historial Fiction set after the Roman Empire’s Withdrawal from Britain) «Ash: A Secret History» by Mary Gentle (Alt-Historical Military Fiction inspired by the Mercenary Wars of the Renaissance) «Idoru» by William Gibson (Cyberpunk) «Kings of the Wyld» by Nicholas Eames (Fantasy Humor) Might also get my hands on «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn»,«Sun Eater» and/or the «Second Apocalypse» series by R. Scott Bakker later this spring!
I've been interested in Judas Blossom. I haven't heard of any of the other books lol. I hope you enjoy!
Good luck with the Discworld read.
Thank you!
📚
Good luck with reading series in 2024. I hope this year I will actually finish and completely read quite a few series. :) But then it's so easy to just start so many new ones. :D
The eternal struggle! 😅
I am intrigued by The Wings of Ashtaroth, it does sound great but yeah it is huge 😅 Good luck with your tbr
It'so so long, but i'm excited! I'll probably start it somewhere this week. Good luck with your reading too! 🤍
Yay for Grace of Kings, my favorite book of 2023. :) I also wanna read Equal Rites soon.
If the entire Dandelion Dynasty is as good or even better than GoK, it'll probably also be on my favorites list. I hope you enjoy Equal Rites! It's my favorite Discworld book so far.
I really hope you are emotionally prepared for the rest of the Dandelion Dynasty series. I definitely wasn't. Take good care of you! Jade Legacy is so good, made me cry like a baby at the end. xD Happy reading.
I feel like i have an emotional reading month planned. Happy reading to you too!
I loved our buddy read Kaat! I agree always needed a shower after reading from his pov 🤢 he was despicable I need to read Unseelie! I keep meaning to, this is the reminder I needed
I think you might really like Unseelie. I hope you enjoy it!
My favourite book of 2023 has now been tainted by a biography I read of the poet and author 😭 (it was The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa) so instead I'll share #2 which was Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman and #3 which was The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
I, yeah, you talked about it in the Discord. I'm sorry you're love for The Book of Disquiet has been tainted like that. I've heard very positive things about The Road, but i'm not sure if it would be for me
I really appreciate the concept of ranking works instead of individual books as you mentioned at the beginning, I do the same. I can rank individual books within a series if asked to but comparing individual books from different series is hard for me. I like the idea of reimagining myths more than retelling, though it is much, much tougher to pull off imo. Will look up Medusa. Happy reading! 👋
I like to see series as a whole because maybe i enjoyed book 3 the most, but i wouldn't like it if it weren't for book 1 and 2. And a book later on in the series might retroactively change my opinion on an earlier book, so i think it's very hard to separate them when choosing favorites. I don't like that "myth retelling" has become synonimous with "I just tell the exact same story, but just from a different pov without changing anything", while it's normal for fairy tale retellings or retellings of classics to change stuff about the story. I'm not saying that no one can write a retelling by that definition, but it's just the oversaturation (especially with retellings of the Trojan Cycle) that gets to me
@@thefairylibrarian3282 I totally agree with both points. 🙏🏽
«Grace of Kings» and the whole of «Dandelion Dynasty» is amazing! So far I have finished «Stonehenge» by Bernard Cornwell (Historical Fiction about the Creation of Stonehenge during the Late Neolithic Period) and currently I read «Imperium» by Robert Harris (Historical Fiction about the Roman Politician Cicero) and will dual read «The Buried Giant» by Kazuo Ishigaro (Fantasy inspired by Arthurian Legend) & «The Dragon Lord» by David Drake (Arthurian Sword & Sorcery) next week! My Februar TBR «Når landet mørknar» (Approximately «When The Land Darkens») by Tore Kvæven (Historical Fiction set during the 13th Century Norse Settlement of Greenland, winner of the Norwegian Brage Prize for Best Norwegian Novel in 2018) «The Last Light of the Sun» by Guy Gavriel Kay (Fantasy inspired by the Viking Great Heathen Army and King Alfred the Good) «Egil Skallagrimsson» by Halvor Tjønn (Historical Fiction about the (in-)famous 10th Century Icelandic Viking Skald who became a Bloodsworn Enemy of the Norwegian Viking King Eirik Bloodaxe) «Alv Erlingsson» by Tore Skeie (Historical Fiction about a Real Life Norwegian 13th Century Jarl who became a Privateer and Rebel) My Spring TBR «Brother Red» by Adrian Selby (Grimdark Fantasy, standalone «midquel» to «Snakewood» & «The Winter Road») «Judas Blossom» by Stephen Aryan (Fantasy inspired by the Mongol Conquest of Persia) The «City of Victory» Trilogy by Adrian Goldsworthy (Historical Military Fiction set during Emperor Trajan’s Campaigns) «After Rome» by Morgan Llywelyn (Historical Fiction set in Post-Roman Britain) «Ash: A Secret History» (The Book of Ash #1) by Mary Gentle (Alt-Historical Military Fiction inspired by the Mercenary Wars of the Renaissance) «The Wise Man’s Fear» by Patrick Rothfuss (Fantasy, sequel to «The Name of the Wind») The «Lyonesse» Trilogy by Jack Vance ((Pre-)Arthurian Fantasy) «The Dragonbone Chair» (Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, #1) by Tad Williams (Epic Fantasy, a key influence for George R. R. Martin's « A Song of Ice and Fire») «Tiamat's Wrath» (The Expanse, #8) by James S.A. Corey (Space opera) «Empire of Silence» (Sun Eater, #1) by Christopher Ruocchio (Space opera) My Summer/Rest of the Year TBR «A Brightness Long Ago» by Guy Gavriel Kay (Fantasy inspired by the Mercenary Wars of Renaissance Italy) «The Darkness That Comes Before» (The Prince of Nothing #1) by R. Scott Bakker (Grimdark/Dark Epic Fantasy inspired by the Crusades, Dune and the Silmarillion) «Dreaming the Eagle» by Manda Scott «We Are the Dead» of Mike Shackle «The Children of Gods & Fighting Men» by Shauna Lawless «Augustus» by John Williams «Unfinished Tales» by JRR Tolkien «Alamut» by Vladimir Bartol Cheers!
My Top Favorite Read of 2023, is a tie between «Under Heaven» by Guy Gavriel Kay & «The Veiled Throne» («Dandelion Dynasty #3) by Ken Liu: «Under Heaven» should be teached next to «War & Peace» and «Le Miserables» for GGK’s prose and Ken Liu’s Character Work has few if any rivals! A character that has only one scene in «TVT» (though a series veteran in «The Dandelion Dynasty»), earned with that scene alone my favorite character of 2023: Cogo Yelu! Next is another tie between «The Retreat to Avalon» by Sean Poage & «The Winter King» by Bernard Cornwell: Poage has written my favorite take on «A Historical King Arthur» and the Seige of Yves Trebon/St. Michel in «TWK» shows why Cornwell might be the best at writing battles! The next are unsorted: «The Winter Road» by Adrian Selby «The Way of Edan» by Philip Chase (You might have heard about him! 😄) «Bold Ascension» by Vaughn Roycroft «Salammbo» by Gustave Flaubert «The Farthest Shore» by Ursula K. Le Guin «The Name of the Wind» by Patrick Rothfuss «Brigantia» by Adrian Goldsworthy «Tortilla Flat» by John Steinbeck «The Little Emperors» by Alfred Duggan My Honorable Mentions «Tehanu» by Ursula K. Le Guin «Speaking Bones» by Ken Liu «River of Stars» by Guy Gavriel Kay «The Conscience of the King» by Alfred Duggan «The Black Gods Kiss» (Jirel of Joiry) by CL Moore «In the Grip of the Minotaur» by Farnham Bishop & Arthur G. Brodeur Cheers!
I haven't read any GGK yet, but i do have a few books by him on my tbr. Ooh, Dandelion Dynasty. I read the first book earlier this month and really liked it. It'll be reading book two in February. I've heard good things about Cornwell, but haven't read from him. Philip who? Never heard of him! Why doesn't anyone talk about his trilogy, especially not on BookTube 👀 The Name of the Wind is great! Brigantia, is that the sequel to Vindolanda? I'm planning to start that series somewhere this year (i hope)
@@thefairylibrarian3282 Yes, «Brigantia» is book #3 in the «Vindolandia»-Trilogy. I really came to enjoyed the duo of Ferox and Vindex during the Trilogy, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there was a sequel trilogy, the «City of Victory»-Trilogy continuing their story! 😃
I've read Medusa in 2022, I think, and it is a great book! Unfortunately the Drowning Empire series did not score so high for me, but I am happy you liked it so much. Similar with Cress and Winter, but it has been so many years since I have read that series. :D Happy reading in 2024, hope you find many new favorites.
Medusa is great! That's a shame that Drowning Empire and Cress and Winter didn't fully work for you. Thanks and i also hope you'll find many new favorites
Jade Legacy ❤❤❤ I loved that series so much, hope you will too! And the Dandelion Dynasty is great. The second book in the series is the best one in my opinion but i loved them all.
I'm so excited for Jade Legacy. That'll be my read for during the class-free week. Finished The Grace of Kings earlier this weekend and it's really good. I'm looking forward to reading book 2
Glad you liked The Bone Shard Emperor. I gave up after the first book. 🤭 Beste wensen!! ❤
Gelukkig Nieuwjaar!
Nice one! I wish you a great reading year 2024!
Thank you! A great reading year, and year in general for you too!
Were not our hearts the windshield wipers’ muse? like dueling blades contently back and forth. A cosmonaut a little lighter moves where lunar plains present the Planet Earth. Our hearts will muffle on the Moon someday, or so the black and white TV forecast. The human heart, which beated out from caves! already’s muffled by our bills and tax. So let the ceiling’s sprinklers erupt; the water hissing down onto your clothes. You can escape as hallways start to flood, and laugh so much that gravity is slowed. Thy spirit frolics in the rain again; our hearts detest to beat in censorship.
I have Bone Shard Daughter in my TBR but I have not picked it up yet, maybe December or January, but I am also not having too much time to read these last months 😕 looking forward hearing your thoughts on The Bone shard Emperor!
It's really good. I hope you'll be able to find the time to read more soon!
Awesome! I can't wait to hear what you think of The Ghosts of Nothing.
You made me so excited about it. I hope i'm gonna love it
That's quite the list and I hadn't heard of most of these before. I plan on reading some Tad Williams this month and then figure out what happens. Looks like I might have to read some academic stuff on the development of war fiction and reread Slaughterhouse 5 and some others too.
I've been wanting to try out Tad Williams for a while. His books are just so long!
oh I am so happy you got The Wickwire watch 😍 i need more people to read this book ! I really hope you enjoy it and maybe it is good that you reserve it for next year because after you read it, you will need book 2 😅 and then book 3 ! I missed to join with Jade War, wanted to read it as well but October was way too busy for me :( I still hope I can get to it this year.
