I had a iPhone 14 Pro Max and it died after 2 years. I spent £1200 on it and it died just after two years. Wanted to use it till the security updates ran out. Sucks so much. My iPhone 11 Pro Max on the other hand is what I use now and it’s still going strong. Battery isn’t too bad and might just stay with this until it runs out then upgrade to a 13 or 14 maybe. Then run it into the ground

Only upgrade if you have a reason. This goes for anything really. Does you phone do what you want? If yes don’t upgrade. If it does most of it and you can get around the rest then still don’t upgrade. If your phone is a iPhone 8 and about to unsupported, has a bad battery and the camera doesn’t work etc maybe try upgrading to a 12 refurbed with a new battery. Will last you a good 4 years before changing again

For a young man you are wise. Many young people feel pressured to have the latest phone because of school friends. Whereas adults seem to always want the latest phone for status. Both are bad reasons to constantly upgrade the phone. If you do need to buy an iPhone the best way is to get the 2 year old model (iPhone 14 atm) and use it for at least 3 years. Then sell it and buy the 2 year old model again, and so on. This way you pay a lower price but still have enough resale value to recover some money.

I always use my phones until they literally die ... Got a Samsung Galaxy S8 in 2017 and had to replace it a few months ago. The only thing I had to do was a batter change after around 4 years. A few months ago I replaced it with a new phone when the display stopped working properly and there were some software issues that couldn't be fixed. I hope my new phone will last at least 5 years, too. Of course the switch from a 2017 phone to a flagship phone in 2024 was huuge, but that makes me appreciate my new phone even more! As an average user I won't even be aware of the minor upgrades a 2025 model would provide.

Okay but ive been able to upgrade twice because ubreakifix is wildly incompetent and messed up both my pixels when doing a screen repair, they've had to upgrade me for free (since they are out of the phone i owned) twice i bought a pixel 6pro and ive had a 7pro and now a 8pro for free

I usually do every 2-4 years depending if it’s worth it. But with me and photography I like having the latest camera. But I just got the 15 pro max and it’s so good I’ll prolly keep it till Apple comes out with a phone with outrageously better battery life. The only thing I could ask for now

I went from an Iphone 6 to an Iphone 14mini. I use them up until new updates no longer work.

Same reason I don't have the latest stuff is. If I can't buy it in cash I can't afford it

This matters especially when you live in a 3rd world country where a new phone costs as much as a car due to import tax. So I can only realistically afford evry 5 to 6 years

I think it's a good idea to keep cell phones as long as possible. Only upgrading when necessary is something I think is very noble.

I use my phone like a computer, screen time ranges from 4 hours to 12. I use it for gaming, office work, and watching videos. My iPhone SE 2 simply cannot handle such a heavy workload. It can game and do everything but the battery life is horrible and the storage is almost full. So yea, I do need an expensive phone. There is no “objectively” here. It depends on who is using what.

Id honestly buy a midrange phone or an old flagship because I have a galaxy A35 and honestly the performance is amazing

I would say get a phone that can last you a few years most definitely (so you should spend a decent amount on it if you can afford it) but other than that I see no justification in buying a phone that costs more than $1k. The only reason I went from iPhone 12 to iPhone 15 was because of a really solid trade in deal, but if it wasn't for that deal I would still be using my 12 because outside of hardware all iPhones are designed to be the same

Been using my iPhone 11 for 5 years now. Probably will get the battery changed and keep using it till it dies. It gets the job done.

The iPhone 12 mini is the best phone I have ever owned really wish I got the 13 mini do not like the iPhone 15 just wish they made an iPhone 15 mini

Are use my phone for photography music and writing down notes and phoning my family members And I make my money back every single time I buy a new phone with my photography If you could just upgrade the camera on the phone, I wouldn't upgrade my phone

the trying new stuff this is so relatable. I have bought so much stuff that I never thought of buying(sim wheel, vr, audio setup) but did cause it was a crazy good deal. It's basically a hobby at this point.

or you could just get used phone which is a older top end model for like 1/3 the price of the newest high model . especially considering phones have little new features worth the upgrades nowadays

That' the truth.Most people are indulged into their preset thought. The Pro model has Promotion & better processor, which is more worthy to be bought. They might think, the most expensive model will blow others' mind. However, the truth is, nobody minds what you use. That's why I am still using the basic iPhone 15 at $700, enough for daily use and my work. I previously use a very slow iPhone 12

Understanding the need & must 👌

Ever noticed how celebrities and other rich people usually don't use the latest phones? They often use phones that are several generations behind, even though they are multimillionaires who could afford to buy a new phone every day if they wanted to. They understand that they absolutely don't need to upgrade as long as their current phone still works properly. It's only common people, that barely have money who always " need" to upgrade every year.

I upgraded my Honor 7X in 2021 to Galaxy A32 because my girlfriend wanted to upgrade her phone and I thought, why not? My Honor 7X runs slower now, so it's not a big deal to upgrade. And I still use my phone now and it runs pretty smooth for low-budget phone its age :D

Love the video, I daily a 13 mini, absolutely love that thing, it’s the best smartphone especially in size that I have ever used. My screen time is less than an hour daily. I have other devices to watch UA-cam and browse the web on. I just upgraded my 5 year old iPad mini 5 to the iPad Air 11” M2 just because I wanted a bigger screen for youtube and watching movies. I don’t upgrade often and Apple gave me a nice trade in on the mini 5.

My indicator to upgrade iphone if whatsapp no longer works on my phone… Every user must have their own reasons, whatsapp is very important for my work🙂
