      I think I'll make an updated video on this, a few things have changed but. For live band recording, I typically rely on the shotgun (and a pair of headphones to monitor so I'm no clipping) and then I'll also put a rode or DJI mic recorder on or near their speakers. The bonus-Jonas of these DJI/Rode wireless mic transmitters is that they have little magnets and can be affixed to speaker stands or often speakers themselves. Thanks for watching : )

On another note, I found your style and pace was excellent. I did notice the sound breaking up a little, so I watched the video again through a different pair of headphones and it was the same. Keep up the good work, you just gained a sub 👍

      Thanks Glen! Yeah, I feel like I tried recording this video over the course of two days... I got to a point where I good enough was better than great. the white sennheiser mic I used for this was getting a bit long in the tooth, so it has been retired. I still love this lens converter. it lives in my bag and on more often on my camera. As far as I know (from being at the Fuji boot at WPPI last week) it will also work with the x100VI... so that's good to know should we decide to upgrade to future x100 cameras... like iphones, I might skip this new iteration. The spec-bump just isn't enough for me. Thanks again for being here. I have a few videos lined up, one about a new bag that I love which ISN'T peak design. So that will be fun.

    Kidak has no intention of actually supoorting thiis camera. It is simoly selling off alk tgeyvcan to reciup costs. It was announced 8 years ago at a $750.00 price point.. It was later changed to a $1000.00... and tge camera was shelves for several more years. It has a $5,000+ price witg years old specs...Micro USB charging, mini HDMI. Kodak's one big promise all those years ago was that it was going to bundle Film Stock, Processing, 4k Scanning and acloud Storage for a set price with each cartidge (regardless of owning tgis camera or not) It seems that this is not going to happen which makes this produxt even less attractive. I think Originally planned to sell tge camera at a loss, but make it up with selling film at a higher but better value price. but after years of R&D and bothing to show for it...They scrapped the service...and just release tge cameraa they have as a "limited edition" to recoup the money

    To anyone watching this, do not use a soft shutter button. It will break your camera. I used an x100v that had this issue the other day. The half-press to focus no longer works, so anytime you even touch the shutter button, it snaps a photo. This is not the way it’s supposed to work and completely ruins the feeling of shooting with this camera. Don’t do it.

    • @timmuza
      @timmuza 7 місяців тому

      Oh no! I’m so sorry that happened! Is there anyway you can remove the broken soft shutter from the threading? That’s tragic.

    • @5hrsbefore1998
      @5hrsbefore1998 7 місяців тому

      @@timmuza No it wasn’t the soft shutter itself that broke, it’s that the use of the soft shutter button actually broke the whole shutter button on the camera. So you can remove the accessory, but the shutter is still broken because of it. Luckily it wasn’t mine. Someone was trying to sell it and I declined because it was extremely sensitive any time you just barely touched the shutter. I ended up finding another one used for a good price, no issues with it.

    Have fun spending $5000 more than you need to. Consider moving to 16mm, learn the exposure triangle and give your customers a much better product.. or not. You’re young. You’ll have lots of time to learn. I learned filmmaking 55+ years ago and enjoy every aspect of the process. Good luck.

    • @timmuza
      @timmuza 8 місяців тому

      55+ years of film making. That’s remarkable! I would love to see a bit of your work if you are open to sharing it. Yes, I would love to offer my couples and clients the experience of 16mm, the only thing I worry about is the weight of the cameras. The benefit of 8mm is the compact size of the film/cameras. Which is a huge benefit while also shooting digital, but you’re smart you understand. So far I haven’t hear back from any Kodak reps. I guess we will wait and see. Thanks for being here, I appreciate you.

    • @flyingo
      @flyingo 8 місяців тому

      @@timmuza there are a few older 16mm cameras that are as light as, or even lighter than the Canon Super 8mm cameras I see in this video. Of course the biggest factor with older cameras is either the absence of, or “not quite accurate”, built in auto-exposure meters. That’s only an issue if you rely heavily on the camera to determine your exposure. I had a video production company for about 10 years in the late ‘80s and early 90s. We shot thousands of weddings 🙄. Always worrying about the low light environments. Of course no one ever complained as they always focused on the people in the scenes. My filmmaking adventures began in 1965 or ‘66 when my late father taught me all about 8mm & 16mm filmmaking. Nothing beats film for adding emotion to visuals these days. I applaud you for including film in your offerings!

      I also love how incredibly affordable digital is these days in comparison. Thanks for sharing your feelings on great alternatives to antiquated technology. I totally agree, motion film costs have skyrocketed over the past couple of years. Which I guess speaks to the value of the medium in a very digital age. I love filming motion film for my clients and couples. It’s something I have built into my pricing for weddings and events, and it adds so much novelty and instant nostalgia to my finished edits. I call BS on the price. I think Kodak is using that as a way to somehow manipulate its target consumer- as a way of getting out of the format for good. They could say- see we created what they wanted, and they just didn't sell, so we are killing the format for good.

      @@timmuza Something is going on, I certainty would wait at least a year before deciding on a purchase. For 5 grand it had be better optioned out and not looking so plastic like. My grandfather worked for Kodak back in the day I guess he received a gold watch for 25 years service. Parents used the 8mm and I went on to the Super 8. My Super 8 at the time didn't cost all that much buying as a kid in the early 70's and it had zoom. These are not overly complex units until you get into the large cinematic cameras. If Kodak took off the relevant and all important zero I would buy one today. The zero needs to disappear. 😁

      Yes absolutely. Wedding videography is a vast and creatively fulfilling career. I have rolled super 8mm into my business and it has become something that has differentiated my videos and packages from other people in my area. It’s not for everyone but for the right clients it’s most bueno.

      @@timmuza if my memory serves correct....it was years ago now....Kodak claimed at CES (where they first showed it off) that it would sell around the 400-500 USD range. At that price this could be a hit product and pull a lot of people into 8mm. But at 5 and a half grand?.....it's dead on arrival as a product.

      Yeah you’re totally right. It’s wild how much that price inflated. At this stage it’s hard to blame it all on the Suez Canal. It’ll be interesting to see how the hobbyist market reacts to this pricing and where it will all go from launch. 🚀 I’m glad you’re here adding to the conversation.

      When you look at the alternatives though. Like HBO filmed Winning Time on Pro8mm Super8's, with the Max8 gate. Those are 3.5k as is, with no crystal sync and no digital viewfinder, and they aren't made by Kodak. When you look at getting one of those Super 8's modified with Crystal sync, the price is... just what it is.

    Kodak still reamains a fucked up company. Kodak produces the Film in the US. Kodak Alaris is the owner of the rights of the Kodak film or something. Kodak Chemicals have been spun off to Sino Promise of China. The company is the largest importer of photo printers (Noritsu ect). The Kodak Chemical was sold in order to pay for pension fund.... anyway... Fucked up. Now they are producing one camera, which is propably not made by them, which badly engineerd because Kodak has no longer experience in-house to do that. The price is insane. What did they do? Have they made 10 prototypes which are being sold now? For 5k you are asking for a professional camera that allows some impacts. I am not trusting Kodak. Kodak's reputation in regards of cameras is just aweful.

    It's odd to me that Kodak wouldn't offer these at a much lower price. They sell the film stock and pretty much own the market, so why not sell the cams cheaper (1 or 1.5K) and get as many people hooked on shooting super 8 as possible? I love the format and the idea of a new reliable cam (my Nizo just locked up) but almost 6K is insane.

    • @timmuza

      I’m sorry to hear about your Nizo locking up. That super sucks (no pun intended). It does seem like an aggressive way to start out trying to reintroduce this tech to a potentially new audience. This is exciting and confusing at same time! It’s exciting to see a new super 8 camera that you initially don’t have to be afraid of it stop working! 😅 I shot super 8 for the first season of the IFC’s Ultimate Film Fanatic and I went through half of my super 8 camera collection! 😳 they were fine when I brought them in, in the middle of the shoot… nothing! Oh no! That's a scary thing to have happen, especially mid shoot. Yeah it's a fear of mine as well. I always bring two film cameras with me to every wedding or event where I am shooting, as you know they are not light. It'll be a nice change of pace to have the peace of mind of leaving a backup film camera locked in my car as opposed to lugging 25lbs of camera around with me. Tell me about this IFC Ultimate Film Fanatic? What is that?

      @@timmuza The Ultimate Film Fanatic was a game show produced partially by IFC in the mid 2000’s. It was a game show about finding who was the “ultimate film fanatic”. The contestants went through a series of rounds of trivia and the final round was showing off their extreme fandom by their rare movie memorabilia. It hosted by film critic Chris Gore and had celebrity judges. They had two seasons as far as I know, the second season they hired a production crew who specialized in super 8 production and used the more expensive super8 cameras.
