I really lie ADKOT, and yes there felt like something was missing. I was fully aware of some of the songs were rehashed tunes they played in clubs before they got their first album deal too. That is not a problem, but it just seemed lazy to not innovate and make newer stuff and add the older stuff as a second disc. Mike was definitely missed, especially his voice. Wolf is a world-class musician and played the bass well. But Mike was a missing piece of that puzzle. Additionally, Dave is a showman, and a blow-hard. He is very self-centered as we all know. He isn't wrong here, but his mirror always points a right back at himself.

The only thing on ADKOT that taints the album is Tattoo. It has no place on the album and I don't understand how it was the single. People heard that and assumed VH had gone soft and the whole album would be like that song. The Trouble with Never should have been the single. Once the chorus comes in, out of nowhere and sounding like it change to a different song, you can't help but smile because of the classic left turn VH always pulled. That rug-pull announces Van Halen is back!

The last album has a lot of stuff I never heard EVH use before (Whammy Pedal, Octavia), I think there's some great riffs on it, and there's some classic Van Halen left turns that make the album a lot of fun. Dave's lyrics are still clever and as witty as ever. Michael Anthony is the only thing missing.

They should have just canned Roth and let Wolfie sing. Wolfie is a FAR superior singer to Roth in every way and at any point in time.

I read that people lose their creative ability at 30, late 20s actually. I believe it. None of Ed's work after compared to before. None of it. (Maybe Me Wise Magic). Additionally, if they wanted to make a great album, they should've gotten Landee and Templeman back. They were as much a part of the VH sound as Ed, Al, and Mike.

Ironically, it's those old tracks that are the highlight of ADKOT which IMO is a very good record because it IS nostalgic VH.

They were older and you couldn't sing anymore. I thought it was a great album better than the stuff he put out in his solo stuff.

Roth needs to shut up. He hasn't been able to sing in key since the early 90s ffs. Eddie Van Halen was Van Halen. The rest were just sidekicks.

Every hardcore Van Halen fan knows there are only 4 Van Halen albums...the first 4. The entire band was damaged by the lack of success of Fair Warning (their best album) and started making joke albums as they no longer cared what the public thought. Dave left the band because he was tired of making cheap commercial pop sounding albums and wanted to make something serious again. Steve Vai did not deliver that special something. So basically Eddie lost his touch, he could never get back to making great music again. Wolfgang's music sounds like Foo Fighters, so he is not delivering anything great with guitar. Dave is the best frontman ever, I hope he can make a great album again. Dave is right about chemistry, but he is just not getting with the right people.

We got what we got,if Alex wants to dig in the archives it will be a bonus.
