The 12 Study Skills for Learning Success with Jessyka Coulter
We all know study skills teach us how to learn.
But beyond test taking or memorization, most of us don’t know how to guide our kids to help make learning fun and easier!
Jessyka Coulter is the CEO and Founder of Ace Cookie Tutoring. Her company offers study and executive functioning skills tutoring through her Love to Learn program. She knows most curriculums are designed with one particular student in mind that doesn't meet every student's personal learning needs. When students discover HOW to learn through the 12 study skills Jessyka teaches, they love to learn. While study skills are the most important part of Jessyka’s work and make the most difference to teens long-term, she also offers private 1:1 academic tutoring online for the ACT/SAT, proofreading, and tutors all core middle school subjects.
At the end of this episode, you’ll understand the 12 study skills and how they impact your child’s ability to learn.
If you want your kids to love learning long term, this episode is for you!

    Very insightful. You asked great lead and followup questions. This vid answered life-long frustrations and questions. Linking interoception to the left/right brain discussion is fascinating.

    W/ 7 kiddos their goals all are similar as the kind of adults I'd love them to become, but will change so much as they enter higher education. I have ages ranging from1 to 15 &like your son my 15yr old knows more about history & science than myself. But is awful at writing 😢 Such a smart smart kiddo with many hobbies & aspirations... Now my 11yr old could care less about everything & just wants to play video games all day 😢 I hate it I will not be allowing my youngers to play video games until high school age but for a few hrs a day. Every kid is different, but ma I wish I could have known before w/ him Now my 3&5 yr olds know things none of the olders knew just bc they listen, watch & want to keep up w/ the bigs 😅 & im so lenient w/ them compared to the bigs as well they have free reign to mostly everything they practically teach them 😂😮😊 Hopefully will keep it up!

      @ericbaker4351 Joel did mention being present and making time to make your family a priority. After years of therapy, I’ve learned that a lot of my self-esteem issues stem from being the only one of my friends in elementary school that wasn’t put in the gifted program.

    • @thefreedomscholar9691
      @thefreedomscholar9691 Рік тому

      I hear you. My sister tested GATE, but I didn't. I think the important thing for me was how my parents handled it. It would be hard if all your friends were separated from you for sure. Remember as Melissa said, giftedness comes in many forms and I'm sure you have lots of gifts!

    • @airsicklowlander7756
      @airsicklowlander7756 Рік тому

      I was a pretty quiet kid and I don’t think I even told my parents this was going on. In my elementary schooler mind, the school was telling me all of my friends were smart and I was dumb. That lead to bad grades because “only smart kids can get As”. I never pushed myself to do well in school because I believed it was not expected of me. It took me failing out of community college to finally realize it was possible to change this mindset.

  • @excellenceineducation6648

    Problems in school that are labeled ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, etc. are either created by the school system itself by the developmentally inappropriate curriculum or are used as excuses for the school to NOT provide appropriate help such as vision therapy. I have a whole shelf of books by professionals proving this. These labels can be dangerous and can cripple children with inappropriate "solutions."

  • @excellenceineducation6648

    You nailed it! You can't force feed learning. That's the biggest misunderstanding among homeschool parents. That's why you and I and many others learn far more outside of school than in. Homeschoolers should never copy school but few understand that.

    • @thefreedomscholar9691
      @thefreedomscholar9691 Рік тому

      Right?! I tried to do some of this in the classroom as a public teacher, but you just can't. It's a huge thinking and systematic shift that is perfect for homeschooling! Hugs my friend! Happy holidays!

  • @excellenceineducation6648

    Kami, Just watched your video on the different approach to math. My wife and I totally loved it. Carolyn was a music major in college and related to the approach with great enthusiasm. It seems the sole objective of the contemporary educational model is to destroy the kids love for math (and other subjects) thus handicapping them for life in many cases. Continue your mission! Marty EIE

    This was a great instructional interview. I m very tmpressed with both of you, your beliefs and your focus and great foundations for successful use of this new technology. i especially appreciate that you started with your belief in God. May God Bless your efforts, your motivations, and may the Holy Spirit stick Himself right in the middle of everything you do and effectuate a righteous outcome in all that you do.
