For those wondering why this fell flat on the audience it's not the audiences fault it's because the joke is readable. Comedian brings up a priest, Immediately you are thinking pedophile joke or self deprecating joke about being molested by their priest. So that's the process of thought when it comes to standup jokes about priests. So then when he says "Dogs pick up traits of their owners" That's basically it Joke finished I know the punchline from that point on, now it's time to deliver, can he nail the delivery of the actual punchline and I would have to say no. This is why sometimes when a Comedian is setting up a joke of similar vein there are already chuckles murmuring in the crowd because people are already getting to the punchline themselves. That joke can work but it needs a complete rework to throw people off a little. Not shitting on the kid clearly he is just starting out and will get better, I often get told by people "why don't you do standup" as they wipe their tears of laughter away, but fuck no I would not do that way to stressful and takes too long to get $$$. You either come in and get a lucky streak of the right eyes on you and immediately get showing deals or take 10-20 years of getting ripped off by club owners.
